Drow/city of brass angle

Mar 19, 2009 10:50:09 first of all, this is 3.5 era.... the campaign is 1385 DR, the Shar killing Mystra angle was stopped by the PC's. thus negating 4E.

The adventure I'm creating Has a Drow priestess of Lolth turning her worship to an efreet lord in the fire elemental realm. (In which she uses a gem provided by the city of brass to place in cormanthor that transforms into a "living gate" summon a fire spider swarm to destroy the forest.)

I'm not sure what happened with the lolth falls silent story, and whether or not Lolth was still around in 1385.

Anyway, I need an angle of how or why a drow priestess would change her religion or begin to serve an efreet lord. Does anyone have any good idea's?
Note: It doesn't need to necessarily have to follow the exact history of the realms, use your imaginations. Thanks.....

Mar 19, 2009 11:11:18 I think you do not need a lot to explain that. Power. Just like the Drow followers of the Elemental Eye in the old GDQ modules, or the Drow following Ghaunadar.

Maybe priestess thinks she might actually rule in the city of brass one day and thinks of this as a situation more favorable than serving Lolth.

Or she is actually serving Kosuth or (if you like to borrow something from the 4e cosmology) a powerful primordial. These entities have less interest in mortal afairs than gods, makeing them a more stable source of power than especialy Lolth. (You could involve Bazim-Gorag "The Firebringer" with the CoB)

There are plenty of examples of Drow forsaking Lolth for other extraplanar sources of power, so I guess most players would accept your plot. (I just introduced Drow following Graz'zt and it felt rather fitting)

Mar 19, 2009 17:25:17 Have her find an Efreet Ring, and she ruvbs it... and it just so hapens to hold an Efreet Lord... who cows HER into submission and worship.

Basically, a simple case of summoning more then you can handle. At first she probably does it out of fear, but then as she sees all the poower she's getting over the other Drow, she decided to run with it. She was probably lower-echelon, and the Efreet allowed her to take over her own house and become the Matron Mother (killing the old Matron Mother in the process).

It works better that way - if she were already of high station, she would have very little reason to abandon Lolth.
