| #1ralimoreApr 02, 2011 0:47:24 | Im working on a book with a duergar as the main character. I am trying to write about his childhood but I cannot seem to find any info on how fast the races physically mature. Anyone know of any refrences to things like that in current Forgotten Realms lit? |

I don't recall how much it went into it, but Dwarves Deep from 2e might be a source for you, and some peripheral information could probably also be gleaned from 2e's Demi-Human Deities, as well as 3e's Faiths and Pantheons and Races of Faerun, though Races is a bit of a controversial book that had a lot of highly debatable lore in it, that didn't always mesh with what came before it. Can't think of much else that goes into dwarves in general, or duergar in particular, at least not off the top of my head. |

| #4sfdragonApr 05, 2011 7:46:01 | might check races of stone.... I'd imagine that since drow would mature no sooner than any other elf, the duergar would mature as fast as any dwarf |
| #5ralimoreApr 05, 2011 11:44:21 | Thats what I was thinking too but I cannot even find out how fast a dwarf physically matures. I know they are not considered adult till about 140 but I need to know how fast they physically grow. Ever seen anything refering to it in any realm? |
| #6StiggerApr 05, 2011 14:41:13 | My general assumption has been that they aren't fully physically mature until adulthood... presuming you're not going to take nutrition levels and overall health into account, I'd probably recommend dividing the time to adulthood for dwarves by the time it takes humans to reach adulthood. I'd tend towards them developing at roughly the same rate, as I can't recall ever seeing anything that said otherwise, except for elves, though I tend to reject that notion for them myself. |
| #7ralimoreApr 05, 2011 18:02:50 | Im thinking since i working on duergar that they will have to develop faster than regular dwarves since they live in the dangerous underdark. I have been kicking around about double what it takes humans. They will be physically mature 35-42 years and considered an adult wehn they kill there first whatever on there own. (gotta do a lil research on that but it is available) |

Maybe you can explain how the Duergar transformed from Gray Dwarves into Devils. Not sure of Laduguer's Status in 4E Realms. Lawful Evil now Evil maybe a sign of Hellish devil-like intent. Laduguer and Lolth had that spider union and both had some hate to give Orcus which makes me think of Laduguer as a Demon-like Prince in the Abyss. Now all of his worshipers are Devils in the Underdark? Something must have happened with the Supreme Master of the Nine Hells. Perhaps if you are writing in the Realms or some other material plane, you might be able to give us an idea of what happened. I may have just missed some information somewhere, anyone know? I do remember Duegar's transformation into the Gray Dwarf had something to do with the time they spent as thralls to illithids, adapting to gain freedom. Thus there were Derro and Duegar can't remember the other source but it seemed to explain the differences between the two with detail, may have been 2 edition book not even sure if it was the Realms or not. Seems like I read multiple sources on this but can't remember. RoF states this imprisonment took place around -8100 DR.. Ye might want to check with Candlekeep ![]() |
