| #118DELTAAug 17, 2008 9:15:37 | -More Gencon Video's -Ed Greenwood on the Living Realms -Chris Tulach on the Living Realms 18DELTA ;) |
| #2suin_bahhar_02Aug 17, 2008 10:47:59 | Ed hasn't even read his copy of the campaignsetting yet! Poor guy is in for a shocker and he knows it. Still he seems excited for the future novels and articles he's about to write. His energy is rivals that of future fusion engines. |
| #3markustay63Aug 17, 2008 10:55:39 | Wait 'till he sees how they butchered his entries - they sucked all of his 'style' right out of the thing. ![]() |
| #4lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 13:17:51 | -I don't like his beard. Never did, never will. |
| #5ChrisTheSAug 17, 2008 13:34:45 | -I don't like his beard. Never did, never will. But with that beard, and that nice deep voice of his, he'd make a great mall Santa ![]() |
| #6umbralknightAug 17, 2008 13:36:43 | But with that beard, and that nice deep voice of his, he'd make a great mall Santa I subscribe to the belief that they are the same person. |
| #7magister_kalAug 17, 2008 16:23:09 | I subscribe to the belief that they are the same person. Santa and Ed same god for 5e realms? |
| #8lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 16:25:56 | Santa and Ed same god for 5e realms? -I sure hope Santa is in the 5e Forgotten Realms. I think we might actually find out, though, that Santa and Hanukkah Harry were actually one and the same guys. You know, they both are magical holiday gift-givers who come out around the same time, so we don't want any overlap or anything... |
| #9magister_kalAug 17, 2008 16:42:49 | -I sure hope Santa is in the 5e Forgotten Realms. I think we might actually find out, though, that Santa and Hanukkah Harry were actually one and the same guys. You know, they both are magical holiday gift-givers who come out around the same time, so we don't want any overlap or anything... Perhaps Azuth was Santa, I mean, look at his beard! 4e Realms KILLED Santa! |
| #10TheriseAug 17, 2008 16:54:56 | -Ed Greenwood on the Living Realms Aw, Ed's so cute. Chocolately bad villains, lol. He's lost some weight, seems very energetic and happy (even happier than usual, hehe). |
| #11lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 17:09:48 | -I always found that his voice just didn't match him, I don't know. ![]() -What he's saying, anyway, I like that. That adventures might be mentioned in novels. -What is "chocolately bad villains" supposed to mean, though? -Carpet bombing the Realms? ![]() -But, in a good way. ![]() -Heh, Ed said that people were fighting over the FRCS. -But, seriously, he hasn't read the FRCG yet? |
| #12markustay63Aug 17, 2008 17:13:28 | I finally watched it - I was afraid of seeing the man 'selling out'. And sure enough - he even said the Forgotten Realms campaign Guide 'sold out'. I knew it. ![]() Anyhow, never heard him speak before - I expected his voice to be more like Sean Connery, for some bizarre reason. He definately has an excellent speaking voice; no wonder he was/is such a great DM. You know, the word 'surprise' doesn't neccessarily mean a good thing. ![]() |
| #13lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 17:20:00 | Anyhow, never heard him speak before - I expected his voice to be more like Sean Connery, for some bizarre reason. -Yeah, me too, actually. I remember the first time I heard him speak, I was also confused. I expected his voice to be much deeper. |
| #14TheriseAug 17, 2008 17:23:21 | -But, seriously, he hasn't read the FRCG yet? He may not want to. ;) Seriously, though, he may not really need to. He's happy with his own version of the Realms that he DMs, and he probably just adventures with people in the new 4E Realms for kicks. |
| #15lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 17:54:27 | Seriously, though, he may not really need to. He's happy with his own version of the Realms that he DMs, and he probably just adventures with people in the new 4E Realms for kicks. -Good point. His own campaign is a pseudo-1e/2e mish-mosh that's gone out on it's own, so... |
| #16meldreadAug 17, 2008 21:54:43 | Am I the only one to notice that there are a lot of Fantasy Authors / RPG folks with beards? Fiest, Greenwood, Robert Jordan had one, Gary Gygax had one... tons of others... Is there some secret beard cult going on that we don't know about? :P Why must so many fantasy authors strive to look like crazed mountain men? :P Maybe I'm just jealous that I can't properly grow one. ![]() |
| #17merrikcaleAug 17, 2008 21:57:08 | -Good point. His own campaign is a pseudo-1e/2e mish-mosh that's gone out on it's own, so... I believe its set around 1358 |
| #18hellmuteAug 17, 2008 22:01:08 | Transcripts? |
| #19lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 23:16:03 | Am I the only one to notice that there are a lot of Fantasy Authors / RPG folks with beards? -Have you ever seen that "famous" picture of all of the Forgotten Realms designers/authors? There was Ed, Brian, George, and a bunch of others. All had beards. |
| #20markustay63Aug 18, 2008 0:20:22 | Except for one - I think it was George, IIRC. That must be why he was left by the wayside when 4e rolled around - his beard just wasn't up to designer's standards. :D I think they do it so they can hide snacks in there for those all-night gaming sessions. :P |
| #21meldreadAug 18, 2008 0:24:16 | I'm telling you, there is some secret beard cult going on that we don't know about. :P It is too much of a coincidence! |
| #22lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 0:29:48 | I'm telling you, there is some secret beard cult going on that we don't know about. :P -I can't grow a beard. I just don't grow much facial hair, and even less facial hair on the chin/neck area. Does that mean I'll never make it into the ranks of this cult? You think, perhaps, I'll be able to be an honorary member? |
| #23markustay63Aug 18, 2008 0:33:01 | I know growing a Moustache allows you to speak italian, but I'm not sure what a beard does for you... maybe lets you hang out with bears, or something? You know... got that whole 'Grizzly Adams' thing goin' on. |
| #24lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 0:36:24 | I know growing a Moustache allows you to speak italian, but I'm not sure what a breard does for you... -The posting of Youtube videos make me miss Rin... ![]() -Anyway, I think Ed actually said somewhere that the beard was good for keeping warm on those cold Canadians nights. |
| #25markustay63Aug 18, 2008 0:46:21 | Just to make you feel more at home. Gawd... I hate those things... ![]() |
| #26lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 0:58:45 | -Doesn't help. -Actually, I am very worried, actually. She's in Florida right now, and they are getting that hurricane... |
| #27meldreadAug 18, 2008 1:03:41 | -I can't grow a beard. I just don't grow much facial hair, and even less facial hair on the chin/neck area. Does that mean I'll never make it into the ranks of this cult? You think, perhaps, I'll be able to be an honorary member? I'm in the same boat as you. I'm fairly sure this means we'll never get into the cult. ![]() The Cult of the Bearded Men (And Dwarven Ladies): This cult serves the mysterious entity known only as the "Bearded One" whom its members worship in order to gain knowledge and capture muses. In some cases the Bearded One has been known to grant powerful magic to its worshipers, and in others it has driven them completely insane. This seems to be random. Many successful Fantasy Authors have been revealed to be followers of the Bearded One, but many others are secret members. The cult has power centers throughout the world, and conspiracy theorists claim that it is behind all major world affairs. Rank within the cult is measured by beard length. Famous cult members include: Confucius, Jesus, Lao Tsu, Karl Marx, Poseidon, Zeus, John Lennon, Sri Swami Satchidananda, Santa Claus, Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci and Ed Greenwood. |
| #28lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 1:09:22 | -Let's start our own cult, then. The The Cult of the Unbearded Men (And Elven Ladies). Score for us... |
| #29markustay63Aug 18, 2008 1:31:07 | I shave once a month, so I'm forced to be a member. ![]() Damn Irish Blood - people have accused me of shaving my legs! ![]() |
| #30naexAug 18, 2008 2:59:19 | That's why they/we are called graybeards... Although I have to trim mine for work, else it would be as long as Ed's, I so need a job as a game designer/librarian. |
| #31gomeztooAug 18, 2008 3:05:05 | But with that beard, and that nice deep voice of his, he'd make a great mall Santa So... Elminster is Santa! So that's why PC Valencia is crushing on him... which is novel; I haven't played a girl with a beard fetish before :D |
| #32markustay63Aug 18, 2008 3:05:49 | Well, I can't grow a beard, but I don't have grey hair either, so I suppose thats a plus.So... Elminster is Santa! He's santa alright - do you have any idea how many times hes been caught with young lasses on his lap? And he definately wanted to slip something into their stockings. :D |
| #33naexAug 18, 2008 3:11:26 | Well, I can't grow a beard, but I don't have grey hair either, so I suppose thats a plus. Well, my beard is not so grey yet, just a few (well more than a few) grey hairs and streaks in the beard. And if Elminster is Santa, I want no part of any gifts a crazy man would be inclined to hand out. Though it would explain his long standing relationship with the elves. |
| #34gomeztooAug 18, 2008 3:16:29 | He has elves making presents for young lasses so he can get into their stockings? Makes me wonder what the presents are.... wooden toys? V is expecting interesting times in front of the fireplace this winter... |
| #35KhaeliethAug 18, 2008 4:22:43 | -The posting of Youtube videos make me miss Rin... Youtube vids of folks with beards remind you of Rin? |
| #36GreenKnightAug 18, 2008 8:58:42 | -Actually, I am very worried, actually. She's in Florida right now, and they are getting that hurricane... Eh, I've been through a bunch of hurricanes. So long as she isn't staying in a shanty somewhere, she'll be fine. ![]() |
| #37lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 11:20:26 | Youtube vids of folks with beards remind you of Rin? -No, the posting of inane, "I-don't-get-it-half-the-time-without-smoking-some-weed" Youtube videos, like what MT did. Eh, I've been through a bunch of hurricanes. So long as she isn't staying in a shanty somewhere, she'll be fine. -That's good, I guess. |
| #38StiggerAug 18, 2008 14:24:43 | Wouldn't it be old Carvas, or whatever that name was, from the 2e City of Splendors boxed set, rather than Santa? As to beards... too easy for me to grow one, which is why I try to shave daily... though the thought of a goatee is occassionally appealing. Never gone through with it past a week though, gets too itchy after that. |
| #39fodiggAug 18, 2008 17:20:47 | Hmm. You know, I saw Ed three times this weekend and never did I think "I should get his opinion on 4E FR." I believe my exact words were "Hey, Ed." and he said "Hi." As if we knew each other. We don't. |
| #40merrikcaleAug 18, 2008 18:47:37 | I believe my exact words were "Hey, Ed." and he said "Hi." well, thats dull When I saw him I said "whats a game designer like you doing in a Gen Con like this" and he said "SECURITY!!!!!!" |
| #41lord_karsusAug 18, 2008 20:42:35 | I believe my exact words were "Hey, Ed." and he said "Hi." As if we knew each other. We don't. -Isn't normal Human interaction crazy? ;) -Now, it'd be really weird if he said, "Hey, fodigg. What's up?" |
| #42merrikcaleAug 18, 2008 21:39:52 | -I don't like his beard. Never did, never will. very fair |
| #43fodiggAug 19, 2008 12:10:06 | Now, it'd be really weird if he said, "Hey, fodigg. What's up?" Ha! Yes, that would have definitely gotten my attention. |
| #44markustay63Aug 19, 2008 13:11:32 | That would have been Uber-spooky cool. ![]() Or in his own words, Choclatey Villain cool. :D I think fodigg wuld have had a "Truman" moment. :P |
| #45lord_karsusAug 19, 2008 13:15:33 | Or in his own words, Choclatey Villain cool. :D -Do we know what that means, yet? |
| #46markustay63Aug 19, 2008 13:19:45 | Its an acronym for 'delicious villain'... I really hope I don't have to explain further. ![]() |
| #47corlainAug 19, 2008 13:28:04 | I shave once a month, so I'm forced to be a member. Try being Irish and Native American. My eyebrows are so pale people think I shave them, but I have dark hair with no grey, and a red beard that grows in so slowly that I only shave once a week, and it is more than half grey now that I will be 40 in a month. Look like a frickin Calico cat if I don't shave for a couple of weeks. |
| #48lord_karsusAug 19, 2008 13:28:57 | Its an acronym for 'delicious villain'... I really hope I don't have to explain further. -Makes some sense. |
| #49markustay63Aug 19, 2008 13:30:36 | Try being Irish and Native American. Irish... and the only group of people (AFAIK) that never developed/discovered fermentation? ![]() I guess that makes your Alchohal tolerence... average. :D -Makes some sense. You should know by now that between the two of us, we know everything. ![]() |
| #50lord_karsusAug 19, 2008 13:33:48 | You should know by now that between the two of us, we know everything. -Between the one of me, I know everything. Everything you add is just bonus. :P -But, yes. We are a nearly unstoppable force of Realmslore. If only we could draw Dan back in... |
| #51markustay63Aug 19, 2008 13:36:35 | I think Old Sage would make a good third, or even George Krashos... But either of them are god-like Lore entities unto themselves. Dan was cool... I miss him. ![]() |
| #52corlainAug 19, 2008 13:41:23 | Irish... and the only group of people (AFAIK) that never developed/discovered fermentation? Funny thing is that I am very resistant to alchohol and opiates. Morphine just makes me irritable, and nothing else. I am not a drinker, but on occasion I have tied one on and can keep up and even beat the hard core people. Problem is that when I finally do drink enough to get hammered, my tolerance for BS goes way down and I go on the warpath. It isn't pretty, considering I am 6', 250 # ex special forces and hold belts in a couple of styles. Needless to say, it is one of the reasons I don't drink. Anyway, haven't checked the boards in a while. Good to see some people still here and up to their shenanigans. Entertaining as always. What they did to the Realms pretty much killed it for me for any future info, but I like most of the people on here, so I thought I would just pop on and see what you all were up to. |
| #53rinonalyrna_fathomlinAug 27, 2008 18:14:11 | Just to make you feel more at home. I don't! That was funny. ![]() |
| #54rinonalyrna_fathomlinAug 27, 2008 18:16:40 | Eh, I've been through a bunch of hurricanes. So long as she isn't staying in a shanty somewhere, she'll be fine. Yes, needless to say, I was fine, and for the most part the weather was absolutely gorgeous. ![]() |
| #55GreenKnightAug 27, 2008 18:40:12 | Glad to hear it. Hope you had fun during your time in the Sunshine State. |
| #56rinonalyrna_fathomlinAug 27, 2008 18:48:19 | Glad to hear it. Hope you had fun during your time in the Sunshine State. I loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! I can't wait to go back! ![]() |
| #5718DELTANov 22, 2008 22:10:07 | -More Gencon Video's - ![]() 18DELTA (Chosen of Cyric) :P |
| #58lord_karsusNov 22, 2008 22:31:41 | -Saves me having to look around for that. Now, let's see what we got here, 40 novels... |
| #59lord_karsusNov 22, 2008 22:37:26 | -Yeah, nothing in the Ed Greenwood interview there, except a very uncomfortable Sara Girard. |
