I like the quotes in the end of the article. The first from Dove Falconhand, “Gossip gives every powerful Cormyrian a dozen lovers, where most can manage but one.” The second from an anonymous poet who speaks of "Kissing thy very dreams"...that is, fulfilling your deepest desire. Good stuff. |
| #2Mr_MiscellanyJun 07, 2012 1:10:21 | This bit about Shade in the article, as related by Elminster, was intriguing too: Given their wrath, anyone with coin enough and persuasive words—which does, yes, lead back to Sembia, and the mages of Shade who have become as weak as I have, reduced to tricking others into doing their work for them. The Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide calls them "incalculably powerful mages", yet Elminster would claim otherwise. Are the mages of Shade really so weak now? |
| #3The_SilverswordJun 07, 2012 3:12:33 | Are the mages of Shade really so weak now? Notice though he says as weak as I am, I mean even as a Drow, Elminster still kicks some serious ! I wouldnt call him weak, knowhatimean? So no, I wouldnt classify the Shades as being weak, though they probably arent as powerful as they once was, no Shadow Weave probably messed them up just as much as the collapse of the Weave affected everyone else. Although I think it is interesting to note that not a single floating Shade city fell once the Weave was destroyed, hmmmmmmmmm.... |

I can't answer anything until you reassure us that it's not a rabid badger attack... or you reveal that you're the son of beloved 1970s TV personality Dan Haggerty and you've borrowed his 'coonskin cap. |
| #518DELTAJun 07, 2012 7:49:21 | I think its Elminster being "unreliable"...![]() What is up with candlekeep? It's been down for me since last night? |
| #6sfdragonJun 07, 2012 9:59:17 | that thing on silversword's head..... is ninja timon timon and pumba |
| #7JorunhastJun 07, 2012 11:30:03 | I think its Elminster being "unreliable"... From Candlekeep at FB: The Candlekeep forums are currently down due to database connection capacities on the server. We are attempting to resolve this and hope to have service back soon. When I try connecting to Candlekeep, I get an error that indicates a connectivity error probably due to their webpage scripts. It's likely that when people connect to their pages, it doesn't auto-drop the connection once it's finished rendering the page. Their host must like randomly fiddling with scripts or something. Maybe the people they share the site with are running a shopping cart and don't know scripts all that well. |
| #8Mr_MiscellanyJun 07, 2012 11:49:17 | Although I think it is interesting to note that not a single floating Shade city fell once the Weave was destroyed, hmmmmmmmmm.... I'd chalked that up to either Shar intervening or the Shades having developed a backup plan in the event magic ever went crazy and failed again. I wonder if the shadovar mages had to collectively give up some of their power to keep their cities afloat? So the thing is... uhm... wait... Misc...what the heck is that thing on your head? Why do you make off topic? ;) That "thing" on my head is my hair. Dreadlocks don't just grow in neat little rows you know. I can't answer anything until you reassure us that it's not a rabid badger attack... or you reveal that you're the son of beloved 1970s TV personality Dan Haggerty and you've borrowed his 'coonskin cap. Dude I used to watch Grizzly Adams all the time as a kid. The only thing better then a cap is one you don't ever have to take off. (I kid, I kid...that thing is a faux animal-skin winter cap, sold at a high-end Rocky Mountain gift shop ["high-end" in this case meaning the shop stood at a slightly higher elevation then its neighbors down the street]. They had a stylish black one too, but it made me look like a cross between Joan Jett and a black haired basset hound.) |
| #9JorunhastJun 07, 2012 12:02:31 | Although I think it is interesting to note that not a single floating Shade city fell once the Weave was destroyed, hmmmmmmmmm.... Shar gave them a heads-up before she and Cyric brained Mystra with Azuth's staff. They landed for a while. So the thing is... uhm... wait... Misc...what the heck is that thing on your head? Because it's too distracting. Or was. That "thing" on my head is my hair. Dreadlocks don't just grow in neat little rows you know.

I know, right, me too! In World of Warcraft, I have a hunter character named Grizz and he has an attack bear. ROWWWER! That's still cool, right? DON'T JUDGE ME. ...The only thing better then a cap is one you don't ever have to take off. Oh, thank the gods it's just a fashion issue. Quickly seek out a woman's opinion on what not to wear, that's my advice. Because I know you secretly long for that other cap with the black Joan Jett hair. Now that's solved, I can answer your original question. It's possible that Elminster's quote isn't recent but was originally made during the period right after the Spellplague when everyone's magic went went belly-up. |
| #10Mr_MiscellanyJun 07, 2012 12:20:54 | Quickly seek out a woman's opinion on what not to wear, that's my advice. That's good advice. My fiancé took that picture, by the way. I now know she was probably laughing on the inside while maintaining a strict poker face. Now that's solved, I can answer your original question. It's possible that Elminster's quote isn't recent but was originally made during the period right after the Spellplague when everyone's magic went went belly-up. Assuming it hasn't been written already, I'd sure like to get the insider's view on what Shade has been up to these past hundred years and what it was like for the Shadovar when everyone's collective magical boat got rocked. Somebody needs to write that novel. |
