#1 acidix Aug 23, 2010 15:03:01	I recently rolled up an Elf Monk, for gaming reasons, but I'm the type of player who likes to get into my character in terms of why they took up the path that they did.  As a result I'm trying to come up with a God for an Elf Monk to follow.  I was reading that often monks follow Tempus, but I'm not sure that I feel like thats the most appropriate for a Monk who is more concerned with personal advancement physically and mentally.  A God of War follower's motivations would be to wage war and not to just become the most in tune with their bodies. Does anyone have any advice on which God to follow?  Or have any way to describe how an Elf leaves his homeland to become a monk? Thanks!
#2 Nai_Calus Aug 23, 2010 22:49:01	There are no other gods but Corellon. (OK, so there are a couple. But if you were raised in Elven lands there's a really good chance that you were raised Corellite, and if it wasn't Corellon, it was some other member of the Seldarine. Corellon is the creator of the elves in the first place, so he'd probably be all for an elf trying to perfect himself.)
#3 The_Silversword Aug 23, 2010 22:57:50	Well it depends alot on the kind of Monk youre playing, are you more Kung-Fu style? more religious, more scholarly? As Nai pointed out, Corellon would be a good choice, but I dunno Labelas just seems more monkish to me. But with 4e focusing less on racial pantheons, really you dont need to limit yourself to Elven deities, Oghma could work nicely. Although thats another important question, what edition are we talking about? What timeline? prespellplague your character might get some funny looks, maybe even hostility if you worship a nonelven deity, post spellplague, the Realms seems more tolerant of such things.

Where's my dwarven Paladins of Corellon? My human clerics of Garl Glittergold? Half-orc avenger of Moradin? C'mon, break some molds already. Orc Invoker of Deep Sashelas!

I don't see a disconnect with Tempus.  Perhaps he sees battle as the way to increase his understanding of himself physically and mentally by testing himself in life or death situations.  He improves himself physically due the demanding nature of fighting and the constant need to train to be the one that comes out on top.  He improves himself mentally by subjecting himself to the stress and fears that come with fighting when death is on the line as well as meditation and reflection when not battling. Otherwise, as the others said, Oghma or Correllon would work as well.
