| #1thechad82Apr 22, 2009 10:10:09 | In the 4th edition Campaign guide, it is stated that Amaunator's Sun hovers above Elturel. However, in the 3.5 edition sourcebook Power of Faerun, it states that Amaunator's Sun is cast above Elversult. Which one is it? |
| #2The_White_SorcererApr 22, 2009 11:35:53 | It has relocated in the hundred years that have passed? |
| #3thechad82Apr 22, 2009 14:36:37 | An excerpt from Power of Faerun: Flamerule 30: Daelegoth calls the faithful to Elversult to witness the first sign of Amaunator's ascension. Midsummer: Daelegoth successfully casts Amaunator's eternal sun. Word quickly spreads across Faerun, and would-be converts begin showing up at the doors of the Morninglord's temples, seeking to convert to the "church of Amaunator. So it was originally intended to be in Elversult. |
| #4The_White_SorcererApr 23, 2009 3:19:43 | An excerpt from Power of Faerun: This assumes that the events described in PoF are, indeed, canon. And even if they are, I repeat my point from my earlier post: It is possible it has relocated in the 100 years that have passed. |
| #5thechad82Apr 23, 2009 5:39:25 | Pg. 156 of Grand History of the Realms: Midsummer: Sunlord Daelegoth Orndeir, leader of the Risen Sun Heresy, calls his faithful to Elversult to witness teh first sign of Amaunator's ascension. The sunlord then casts Amaunator's eternal sun, which brings forth a second sun that never sets over the city of Elversult. I'm not trying to be a pain in the you-know-what, it is just that I am working on a campaign for my group and this is something I am working around.... |
| #6lord_karsusApr 23, 2009 12:52:44 | This assumes that the events described in PoF are, indeed, canon. And even if they are, I repeat my point from my earlier post: -All Forgotten Realms novels, adventures, and sourcebooks are canon. In the 4th edition Campaign guide, it is stated that Amaunator's Sun hovers above Elturel. However, in the 3.5 edition sourcebook Power of Faerun, it states that Amaunator's Sun is cast above Elversult. Which one is it? -It's a massive "goof", as Rich Baker put it: I *think* the intent was always to put it in Elturel, hence the nation of Elturgard. But I don't know if we just goofed in Power of Faerun, or managed to overlook that in the 4e concepting process. |
| #7lord_karsusApr 29, 2009 17:22:29 | -Bumped since it got moved, for anyone who wants to add to the discussion. |
| #8StiggerApr 30, 2009 0:24:54 | Right... editors to maintain consistency and coherency my arse... |
| #9krownhunter07Apr 30, 2009 7:55:06 | Or an honest mistake, it does happen, you know. Anyways, I think it makes more sense over Elturel... don't you? EDIT: To clarify, Elversult is under Cormyr's control now, while Elturel is the capital of it's own, sun loving, nation. |
| #10StiggerApr 30, 2009 13:32:14 | Maybe, except for Elversult being mentioned in not just one, but two sources from 3e, Power of Faerun and The Grand History of the Realms both place it as happening in Elversult, even going so far as to mention a specific temple known to be in Elversult (the Temple of the Morn was mentioned in 2e's Forgotten Realms Adventures) that was the center of the events. That's not quite the same as always intending to put it in Elturel, which had neither a shrine, much less a temple, to Lathander previously... the two largest temples being to Helm and Chauntea, with shrines to Tymora, Ilmater, Tempus, and Waukeen. |
| #11iakhovasApr 30, 2009 14:17:40 | For what it's worth, this issue did come up while I was working on the FRCG. I did inquire of Bruce about the discrepancy, and that's when I was informed that Amaunator's Eternal Sun was 'gifted' to Elturel. So, yes this is the same 'sun' that once shined over Elversult, but the events which led to its moving have not yet been revealed. |
| #12krownhunter07Apr 30, 2009 14:26:24 | Thanks for the info. Hmm, that leads me to my question of 'why is Amaunator's Gift over the capital city of a country that is wholly devoted to Torm?' |
| #13StiggerApr 30, 2009 15:02:27 | That is a good question... good to know that it was purposeful though, rather than a glaring screw-up, even if it doesn't make much sense. |
| #14markustay63Apr 30, 2009 15:52:21 | So when it got moved, did someone have a "pocketful of sunshine"? :D Or was it moved by a group of Cloud Giants with a heat-resistant tow-chain? :P Personally, I would have casted it over Shade, just to pi$$ them off. ![]() ![]() |
| #15krownhunter07Apr 30, 2009 17:21:32 | Or was it moved by a group of Cloud Giants with a heat-resistant tow-chain? :P It doesn't give off heat. |
| #16StiggerApr 30, 2009 17:26:41 | So its just a big, glorified Light spell? Boring... :P |
| #17krownhunter07Apr 30, 2009 17:58:20 | So its just a big, glorified Light spell? Boring... :P Well, that and the fact that it 'burns' undead and shadow creatures. |
| #18markustay63Apr 30, 2009 23:52:09 | So, its a Daylight spell. It gives off light and radiant energy. Too bad it doesn't give off heat, or any other solar energy - Elversult could have become FR's answer to 'Spring Break'. :P |
| #19StiggerMay 01, 2009 3:42:18 | And Elversult becomes the Risa/Zeltros of Faerun... :D |
| #20KrashMay 01, 2009 21:29:39 | The strange bit is that Amaunator seemingly isn't worshipped in Elturgard. Way to take advantage of a "gift" ... -- George Krashos |
| #21markustay63May 01, 2009 21:50:06 | This is 4e... stop looking fpr logic and just sit back and enjoy the uber-kewlness of it all. Edit: And since I'm in charge of the K-T project, here is how Aumanator is pictured in the east - ![]() (Thats actually from the Korean version of Teletubbies) |
| #22nightseerMay 01, 2009 22:05:05 | Mine Eyes! :P |
| #23markustay63May 01, 2009 22:06:31 | Yes... he is a bright little fellow. ![]() |
| #24StiggerMay 02, 2009 1:01:46 | I'm not going to ask why you're watching teletubbies... much less in Korean, but hey, if it works for you... |
| #25nightseerMay 02, 2009 3:16:02 | I think he HAS problems. :P |
| #26StiggerMay 02, 2009 3:31:00 | Many and varied... |
| #27krownhunter07May 02, 2009 8:36:25 | Well, if I had to venture a guess, I'd say he felt intimidated by the purple one with a triangle on it's head...![]() |
| #28nightseerMay 02, 2009 9:45:01 | Maybe the first to letters confused them during the development phase. ;) EL=EL. ![]() |
| #29StiggerMay 02, 2009 10:16:10 | ![]() |
| #30lord_karsusMay 02, 2009 10:30:05 | -Calm down, calm down. Discussion at hand. |
| #31StiggerMay 02, 2009 10:46:59 | Not much left in it... they screwed up, we know about it, apparently it wasn't such a screw up and there was a plan, everything else is pure speculation at this point, presuming anything at all ever comes of it, which seems unlikely outside of a novel. |
| #32markustay63May 02, 2009 14:48:06 | Did you know that Teletubies was produced by Simon Cowell? Which is why guys like Ruben were able to win American Idol. ![]() And yes, I did watch Teletubbies with my boys when they were very young, but absolutely refused to watch the abomination that was the Wiggles when the younger two were born. I draw the line at Capt. Feathersword. ![]() And you guys never watch TV shows and movies in other languages? Its a hoot! :D Not much left in it... they screwed up, we know about it, apparently it wasn't such a screw up and there was a plan, everything else is pure speculation at this point, presuming anything at all ever comes of it, which seems unlikely outside of a novel. Its not so much that they screwed-up; that happens in every edition. Its just that now they aren't even bothering to go back and try to patch all the continuity glithches that are creeping in - now the rule is just to ignore them. Its like they just don't friggin' care. ![]() |
| #33nightseerMay 02, 2009 16:34:36 | Thats why the designers gave the Realms the Base Delta Zero treatment. ![]() Hey I watch Spanish TV, boy those chicks are HOT! Especially the ones where they are dressed in Catholic Schoolgirl outfits. ![]() ![]() ![]() :OMG! ![]() ![]() :P |
| #34markustay63May 02, 2009 16:58:07 | I love watching American Cartoons on the Spanish Channel - funny as hell. :D The problem with the 'Base Line Zero' treatment as you call it, is that it is already getting more convoluted and glitchy then the twenty years of previous lore combined. They can't even get straight what town a 'new sun' was over... what the heck is this abomination going to look like a few years from now? ![]() Edit: Now THAT was just too funny - I mispelled 'Spanish' with an 'e' instead of an 'a', and the filters blocked-out everything but the first and last letter. Took me a sec to figure out what happened - I thought 'Spanish' had become a dirty word. :P |
| #35krownhunter07May 02, 2009 19:42:23 | I watch toons with my boys... you know, like Ben Ten, GI Joe, He-Man, Superman, Batman, JLA... good stuff. |
| #36StiggerMay 03, 2009 5:42:45 | Batman is awesome... the rest I'm not to sure about. I loved the Animaniacs though... kind of scary how often that series can come up in conversation for me at times. In a good sort of way though. :D |
| #37markustay63May 03, 2009 12:16:39 | Animaniacs didn't really do it for me, nor did any of the Transformer toons. I loved Thundarr as a kid, and then that was replaced as my favorite by Pirates of Darkwater. Both of those have influenced my games. Strangely, I never like He-Man - I found it too childish, and the same for his counterpart She-Ra. Thundercats was kinda cool (except for snarf). I don't really go in for 'silly'. All the super-toons lately have been awesome. I even dug the new Teen Titans - even if they did go overboard with the weird anime presentation at times. Ben Ten just rubs me the wrong way, even though I still watch it with my younger boys (who love it). Something about a feaky old man travelling around the country in a winnebago with children, and putting them in constant danger, is just plain wrong. |
