| #1holyknowlieSep 20, 2008 3:21:40 | After poring through the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide I noticed that Evereska and Evermeet are not in the "basic knowledge" section. That having been said, there are no mentions of the Regional Benefits a PC hailing from one of these areas would start with. Any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to help my players out? |
| #2RUMPLESTIXSep 20, 2008 4:27:09 | Perhaps you could model it after the Luruar benefit, except replace History with Arcana or Nature. I think the Great Dale benefit would work, but some players might think outright copying is boring. But, hey, whatever works. |
| #3holyknowlieSep 20, 2008 13:32:04 | Awesome, thank you for the insight. I'll definitely work around this during my session this week. |
| #4RUMPLESTIXSep 20, 2008 22:46:06 | Any time I can help. |
| #5angelus_obscuraSep 20, 2008 23:45:56 | I think the reason they did not put in the regional benefits for Evereska and Evermeet is because Myth Drannor is a city-state founded and inhabited by the eladrin of both lands. It'd be redundant to make benefits that are just copy/paste jobs of the two originating regions. Think about it. |
| #6DreamStalkerSep 21, 2008 4:47:53 | True. For new players it might be best to state such things however. |
| #7IluvrienSep 21, 2008 6:36:03 | Surely the "fact" that it would be a copy/paste job is based on an enormous assumption. You are assuming that the prevalent cultural bias for all three regions is identical. Put specifically you are suggesting that Elves: 1) ...of the (traditionally primarily Moon Elven, I think) Fortress-City of Evereksa standing against Netheril worshipping Hanali Celanil (Sune) and Aerdrie Faenya (Akadi) with a permanent gate to Arvandor. 2) ...of the (traditionally primarily Gold Elven, I think) beautiful and fey (adjective not racial classification) cities of Evermeet, the true heart of Elven "civilisation" where Corellon is given primary important and there is a great deal of politics surrounding the Elven court in these days not to mention the continuous slipping between the Feywild and Faerun (with greater emphasis than in Evereska seeing as the cities of Evermeet are now in the feywild. 3) ...and of the Open and Accessible (FRCG with direct comparison to Evereska and Evermeet) Myth Drannor, a city-state not in direct conflict with Netheril though it keeps watch (see FRCG) and with no planar links to the Feywild whatsoever (the blocking effect of the Mythal), therefore with Eladrin that have no contact with their "ancient racial home" or its benefits and might be in fact those might be the closest to the Elven kindreds of old.... ...are all identical and thus do not require a regional benefit or background of their own. I am sorry but I just don't agree. To my eye the Regional benefit system takes advantage of not only what you were born but also what the culture, educational and training bias and the prevalent "feeling" in the area is. On that basis these three places should have 3 different write-ups and 3 different regional benefits. |

| #9IluvrienSep 21, 2008 10:07:38 | Yeah, what Iluvrien said. l.o.l. Thanks, Rumplestix. I can't see any logical reason not to have included the other possibilities in the FRPG. That is why, and I have also posted this in another thread, that I think this information will be published. Just on the DDI. ![]() |
| #10angelus_obscuraSep 21, 2008 19:23:08 | Obviously you've put more thought into this than I have, and I am not saying my explanation is the ultimate truth. I was merely stating what could be the reason the designers did not include some of the regions. As for Myth Drannor, I still stand by my opinions; that it is a city founded on the principles of unification of the elven peoples, cultures, and even regional benefits. So it would make sense that the some, if not all, of the regional benefits of the other places would carry over and be supported in the new one as well. You also have to keep in mind that elves/eladrin are extremely long lived races. It stands to reason that their culture would be something that changes slowly over centuries, not decades. |
| #11lord_karsusSep 21, 2008 20:01:19 | Evermeet: Add Knowledge Arcana/Spellcraft to you skill list, and add a +1 bonus to Knowledge Nobility/Royalty (or something to that effect, to reflect to elite, almost "cosmopolitan" feel of the Everaer.) Evereska: +1 bonus to all saving throws (as a result of living within the "tainted" Mythal). -The second is delving into a little poetic license, but... |
| #12anathemaSep 22, 2008 12:10:58 | I say this as someone who is typically the DM but will be the player for our group's first 4e game, and as a player who originally wanted to be from Everska before the FRPG came out... It really seems like Everska (and Evermeet) are not meant to be cities that players start in, if for no other reason than they are not in the player's guide, but also these places are noted as being hidden away from most people and typically inaccessible. However, play as you will. Just adding my thoughts. |
