-The things in the FRCG, FRPG, the adventure, Living Forgotten Realms modules, and DDI/Online DUNGEON/DRAGON magazines are all that there is.

-You'll have to wait for more stuff on DRAGON/DUNGEON/DDI, yeah. That's where most of the information is going to come from now. The Living Forgotten Realms stuff, you'd have to be a member to get those modules, and I don't know if they have maps (though, in all likelihood, they do).

I have a really nice Map of Returned Abeir - quite lovely, if I do say so myself...

I think I'll erase that file now...

I would erase it, if I wasn't so happy with it. I have a hard time destroying anything I've worked on.

Maybe I'll just print it out and throw darts at it. :P

hey, I'll gladly take it off your hands... to, y'know... throw darts at it and such... certainly not to admire and save it for gamer posterity, oh no!

The ':P ' smiley indicates he was just joking, I imagine, so I take no offense.

In fact, I'm starting to reconsider...

I can't take all the PMs pleading on half-a-dozen sites...

If I were a developer, I'd be embarassed by the maps in the campaign guide.
Baisc map-making says that when you do a regional map you zoom in and include more detail than the world scale map. did they do this, no? They just crop the big map...not sure if this was laziness, incompetence or what. Pretty darn bad. This was one of the issues I raised when I called Wizards about this book.

They are trying to spin it as a 'feature', rather then a problem -

"Hey guys - you can pretty much do whatever you want with the FRCG information, because the map is only a 'stylistic representation' of the world, and doesn't reflect the actual placements of any locales."

No, I'm not kidding - that's the spiel they are handing us.

Trust me, even the guys writing for 4e FR are gagging on that abomination, but they have to live with it, because some egghead actually approved that mess...

... and PAID for it...

Sadly, it is usually the maps that draw fans to a setting - the more beautiful and fantastic looking, the more the setting will 'take-off' initially. Take a look at the Map of Golarion produced by Paizo; it just makes you want to jump right in and start playing.

The FR map makes you want to hang yourself in the garage.

Very true.

Also note that they have suckers, like you, doing the maps for them. :D

-Whoa! The map itself, like the setting, I am indifferent on, but that was pretty cool, being able to zoom in and stuff.

Yes, he has (and don't ask me how I know).

Buuuut.... there is a difference between being able to do that for Free on the web, and trying to find a 15 year old program that doesn't look half as pretty.

Oh... and the FRIA is rife with errors. ;)

Still... a truly excellent resource that everyone was wishing would be re-released, but now there's not a snowball's chance in hell.

The errors aren't that bad, and relatively minor mostly... except for the Globe function thing, which got even worse with patch 3... I just love my copy of that.

I ran my first D&D campaign in Middle-earth, using Iron Crown Enterprises Middle_earth Role-pLaying game books as source material for my campaign. MERP had a lot of great maps, detailed ones and sometimes they would have things like unlabelled cities and ruins as a spark to creativity.

They could have done something like this for the Campaign Guide, detaled regional maps that show a lot of locales as springboards to adventure.
But no, WOTC went with the less is more, make the fans make it up garbage.

I'm still pretty fond of the FRIA myself... could have been better, a version for 3e would have undoubtedly been better, but considering the technology of the time its pretty good.

Why do you guys want 4E maps? I thought everyone hated it. Does a new edition come out every decade or something?

No offense intended, far from it... Seems I should use "/joke" tabs next time.

I was tempted to send a pleading PM, but refrained from fear you'd be annoyed by yet one more message adding itself to the flood you are no doubt receiving.
