| #1nostraApr 02, 2008 3:35:44 | Hello, i'm leading the shakled city campaign with a team of 6 players. Now one of the players was 'out' for a few months so misses a few sessions (we play every 2 weeks for one evening). So meanwhile the other players have gained 2 levels and are going strong. When the player decided to leave i had her abducted by a dragon (young red dragon) without actually thinking very much ahead. Now in a few weeks this player wants to rejoin the campaign so i need ideas to re-introduce her into the campaign. I find myself lacking the inspiration for some reason... so anyone any ideas? what could have happened to a player abducted by a dragon? All input welcome to get my inspirtaion going again Thx! |
| #2varedApr 02, 2008 5:22:20 | How about... Having the player secretly siding with the dragon, having recieved some training, and serving it as an agent? Perhaps the dragon have an entire network of agents, searching for something, or someone? Or maybe the network is all about controlling... hm... trade throughout the region, for instance. But why? Hope this helps! |

If you are really cramped for time, it can be as simple as a rival dragon attacked, at some point, and the former PC used the chaos to escape from his captor. If you have a little more time, perhaps you can incorporate the Cult of the Dragon. They came by, and as they were transforming the Dragon into a Dracolich, the former PC escaped. They all soon realized, and are out to get that PC, being as he knows the identity of the cult members, and what happened to the Dragon. |
| #4daenaanApr 02, 2008 11:13:09 | Perhaps the dragon wasn't a dragon at all, but one of the key NPCs (or an agent thereof). Kidnapping the PC could be part of a plot to get them on that NPC's "side", or to serve some interest that the NPC has. |
| #5markustay63Apr 02, 2008 12:01:49 | I like all of the above, and you could even combine them. The idea that he/she was captured for some reason, and then something went 'amiss' most appeals to me. If you want the dragon to just stay a dragon, then I would say that the creature has a 'refrigerator' type storage area, using a permanent stasis effect. Another dragon, the CotD, other badguys/good guys, whatever... slays the dragon for her hoard, and either releases the PC, or you run an adventure where someone 'leaks' the info about a dragon to your party and when they get there, the only thing they find is there friend 'locked in a storage closet', so to speak. You could even have them fight the dragon to rescues their former companion, but if they aren't of sufficient level, then I would say stick with them finding her in the 'meat locker' (the real dragon-slayers wouldn't have bothered to clean that out). No matter how you do it, I would definately involve the entire group in his/her 'rescue'. BTW, the dragon could have wanted to use the PC in it's schemes (as Vared suggested), or could have simply developed a 'crush' on the PC (weather male or female, and for a REAL TWIST, you can make the dragon the same sex!) Hmmm.... a gay Dragon that captures a prince instead of a princesss.... I wonder if thats ever been done before? ![]() |

| #7daenaanApr 02, 2008 12:13:51 | -A Fagon. Heh... Hey now, none of that. I'm sure that "coming out of its shell" was difficult enough without jokes! |
| #8markustay63Apr 02, 2008 12:16:21 | What would be even more interesting is that the dragon couldn't find a 'mate' amongst its own kind (considering how few dragons there are, finding another gay one must be a nightmare), and when it spotted the PC, it felt a certain 'kinship'. In other words, the the DM could force the PC to be gay (great RPing possibilities there), and the dragon could have amplified his 'Gaydar' with some spell to find others like him. Hmmmmm.... Amplify Gaydar... theres a spell you'll never see in an official sourcebook. :P |

That said, I don't think this is exactly the what the OP had in mind...;) |
| #10daenaanApr 02, 2008 12:26:12 | -There are items out there that, you know, charm individuals to the point where...Yeah. I'm sure this is sooooo not what Nostra had in mind for "help". LOL. |

-When you start breaking out the Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, you know something, somewhere, has gone wrong. |
| #12sataApr 02, 2008 14:55:57 | Plenty of good and potential ideas so far, so I'll try to contribute with something a little different, almost giving it some twist to an idea above. The dragon, amongst all of his/her goals, may want to create a chult for himself/herself and rule a specific area for many reasons, as you see fit, so he/she plans to first of all, have his/her loyal guard/followers of his/her own blood, half-dragons, so he/she abduct very specific subjects that could offer her 'something special', in this case, your named PC. Could be a mix or twist of every or just a few of all the ideas above by all of us who have posted so far, or neither and just one of your own, as you see fit. Good luck. |
| #13markustay63Apr 02, 2008 15:01:32 | Yeah, I think the OP should look at all the suggestions and then formulate his own plan - they are all good.-When you start breaking out the Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, you know something, somewhere, has gone wrong. See? There you go! It doesn't neccessarily have to be an 'icky, gross, sex-thing' - only if your group is immature and you play it that way. With the right group, it could play-out as a tragic/sad love story with an unhappy ending. And with an immature group and a male hero, you can make the Dragon female and go the Shrek route with the whole thing. ;) |
| #14rinonalyrna_fathomlinApr 02, 2008 19:55:52 | It doesn't neccessarily have to be an 'icky, gross, sex-thing' - only if your group is immature and you play it that way. Icky, gross, and sex used in the same sentence? That's not right at all!:P |
| #15lord_karsusApr 02, 2008 22:43:37 | Icky, gross, and sex used in the same sentence? That's not right at all!:P -It can easily be adapted: "After I wash this icky, gross slime off of myself- the T-Rex sneezed on me- let's go have sex." -That aside, Nostra, have you confirmed that this player actually wants to use the same character? Being as that the other characters are a few levels ahead, he/she might want to make up a new character, to make sure he/she is on the same level as everyone else. |
| #16nostraApr 04, 2008 6:30:08 | i'm actually speechless :p Ready the replies on this thread made my me cry of laughter :p I absolutelu love some of the ideas given :p. Especially the part of letting the heroes participate in the rescue of the PC. I was actually thinking something in the form of cros breeding or giving the player a few 'free' Red Dragon Disciple levels. getting him trapped in a statis prison for some experiments by the dragon is nice. The fact that the dragon could be killed by a cult is also nice. With the hoard empty some other creature (of equal level of the PC's could have taken home in it. So to rescue the PC they have the kill the new creature first. And yes i checked the player and she absolutely wants to continue playing her original characters. (Thats right i'm a happy dm with actually 2 women playing in my group :p) Still needs some work, but i got time to think it through, maybe include some already known NPC's from my campaign. I like it. Thank you all :p And please do continue to give ideas about gay dragons and such :p i loved it ^^ |
