| #1barthalasOct 27, 2008 11:10:25 | Not sure which sub forum this should go in so I'm posting it here. I'm looking for the communities thoughts on the backstory I have planned for a Fey'ri pc in the group I DM for. (for info on the stats I'll be using see here http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1078349) Thoughts, comments, suggestions are all greatly appreciated... I am fey’ri. A little over a century ago my sun elf grandmother was kidnapped, and then forced on by Fey’ri males as part of Sarya Dlardraegeth plan to expand the numbers of her fey’ri army. Shortly after giving birth, members of the elven crusade came upon my mother’s “nursery.” Disgusted by what Sarya had done, they were about to put my mother to the sword rather than let the “abomination” live, but my grandmother pleaded with them for mercy. For good or bad, they agreed to her request but she would no longer be welcome in elven lands. Saddened but resolute, my grandmother agreed to their terms and raised my mother on her own among the human lands. When my mother was old enough to understand, my grandmother told her that she must always use her inherent shape changing ability to never let others know what she was. For years they made the best life they could together but always on the outskirts of civilization. Then came the time of the Spellplague and the death of my grandmother. My mother never spoke of how she died but I could always see the pain in her eyes when I asked about her. Alone in the world, my mother took to adventuring as a way to make a living. It was during this time that she met my father. Though I would never know him, my mother would often tell me stories of their travels together. I think it was the only time I remember seeing her smile. He died protecting her during one of their many adventures. It was only later that she realized that she bore his child. Like her mother had done for her, she raised me as best she could in a world she felt would never truly accept who we where, fey’ri. As she had been taught, she bade me to always hide my true heritage. In time I grew to be a restless young man. Though it pained me to leave her, I needed to find my own way in the world, to learn more about the mixed blood which ran through my veins. So it was that I traveled across Faerun, learning all I could about the elven people and when possible the tales of the fey’ri. It was during this time, that I journeyed to the now mostly deserted isle of Evermeet. It was there that I first heard the call of the ancient fey spirits of the island. They reached out to me, offering to teach me secrets of arcane powers long forgotten by most of my elven ancestors. I’m not sure why they chose me. Maybe it was because of my tainted blood (after all fey’ri had been known to often make pacts with otherworldly beings) or maybe it was in spite of it. Regardless of the reason, I readily accepted their offer. Warlock, I am now called. But unlike my fey’ri ancestors who made their pacts with demons and devils, my pact is with the ancient, amoral powers of the Feywild. Like my mother before me, I’ve taken up life of an adventurer. Though I still mostly keep my true identity a secret, I’ve been blessed to travel with a group who accepts me for what I truly am. Though at times I still struggle with the taint that runs through my blood, I strive to fit into the society in which I now live. I would like to think of myself as genuinely good, but at the same time, I fear that my soul may be irretrievably tainted by the touch of evil that is my heritage. |

| #4davesaundersOct 31, 2008 11:17:51 | Is there areason why they agreed not to kill the baby? Maybe a prophesy telling them not to? |
| #5rinonalyrna_fathomlinOct 31, 2008 12:35:13 | Or a conscience. |

| #7barthalasNov 02, 2008 19:28:20 | Is there areason why they agreed not to kill the baby? Maybe a prophesy telling them not to? Good question. I like the idea of a prophesy, maybe he's destined to be the first "good" Fey'ri, a possible redeemer of the race (or at least what is left of them.) |

There are a couple of ways to get a Fey'ri. one is the coupling of a cambion of elvish blood and a full elf. Another is the mating of a Fey'ri and an elf. There may be more. |

I like the idea of a prophesy, maybe he's destined to be the first "good" Fey'ri, a possible redeemer of the race (or at least what is left of them.) In this case, the person pleading for the baby's life is the baby's own mother. I don't think it's hard to believe that she would be interested in saving the life of her own child, whether there's a prophecy involved or not (there could be, of course, but I'm inclined to think prophecies are often silly plot devices). Perhaps the mother can say there's a prophecy just so her child can be left alone. |
