Hi guys. Considering my, regrettably, long list of failed ideas concerning my homebrew adventures and campaign settings, i've decided in going with the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, and for once, swallowing my pride and actually asking for help .

I've already shaped out the main storyline, this is where it gets interesting ;).

During the coarse of the elven crown wars, a group of elves (problem 1) faced with emminent defeat at the hands of their advesaries, devised a ritual to bind an elven sprit with the form of four elements; fire, air, earth and water. The ritual was a success, and the elemental rapidly destroyed its opposition. However the elven spirit trapped inside the giant form proved unable to resist the whisperings of the elements and soon turned mad with its current predicament; its only purpose now was to find a way to free itself from its bounds - by all means necessary.
During the elemental rampage that followed, the elves banded together. The high wizards, sorcerers and priest of various nations attempted to sever the elementals connection to the material plane. The result was not as predicted, as instead the four elemental spirits were rapidly rejected from their host body, leaving only the tortured shell of an elf. This attempt tempoarily stunned the elemental, leaving enough time for the spellcasters to devise a suitable prison. However, as the threat suddenly seemed evaded, the elves began to bicker amongst themselves once again, and the elemental was forgotten.
Now, once again, it stirs. Its cold prison has been discovered by adventurers heedless of the warnings inscribed upon the walls. Accidentally fading the inscriptions upon the caging dias the energies meant to cage the elemental has begun leaking, and it is only a matter of time before one elemental form becomes able to free the others.

Anyways, im having trouble deciding where the backstory were supposed to take place. I've thought about Cormyr, Dalelands-Cormanthor, Sword Coast. But i'm having trouble making up my mind.
Also, which kind of elf race would be the best candidate for this? The Illithyrii? (pardon me if i misspelled it)

Any ideas, comments? Perhabs even /hate for ripping off NWN 2 Official campaign? :P In any case i'd love some response since i've put alot of energy into this.
Thanks ;)

Unfortunately I do not have a very solid idea of where you should set something like this in the FR. My knowledge of the realms is limited and I dont want to make suggestions out of that ignorance. However my favorite settings have always been those part of the Realms that had the least written about them. Beyond that I have always enjoyed the realm of Cormyr perhaps the most. Anyway... As far as the setting goes my first impulse is always to stay as far away from The Dalelands and Waterdeep as possible. But that is just my own personal feelings on the subject.

The campaign background you have created sounds fine. sounds like it could be a lot of fun depending on where you decide to go with it. It does remind me a little bit of the Berserker stories by Saberhagen and the Terminator movies in the sense of the weapon out of control. Of course in your case they managed to cage it before it destroyed its creators...

In regards to the idea that the idea is 'ripped off' from another source that really is not important. As long as you and your players enjoy the campaign all should be fine. Of course if you cleave to closely to the original storyline you may have players saying pithy things like: "Oh! OH! I know what happens next!" :P

So in the final analysis: Have fun. Thats what we all play thins crazy game for, right?

Authors never "rip off" other authors. We are simply "heavily inspired" by them. ;)

Screw the spelling. The Ilthyrii (whatever ) I think are a good choice. I'd stick the prison somewhere in a temple in a jungle and "borrow" the Xen'drik drow from Eberron to serve as a previously undiscovered drow culture who are sworn to keep that prison shut. Any who see it who are not part of their people must be put to death, because once the story gets out, power-hungry forces may come to try to open the prison...

...and that would be bad.
