| #1joefirebritchesJun 03, 2008 21:40:47 | Hi-Diddly-Oh, Ever wondered how you're favorite FR characters would fare in a comic book style deathmatch? Not the DC/Marvel Mutual Knock-Out scenarios. I'm thinking more Robot Chicken/MTV, somebody's losing some bodily organs kind of a match up. No dice rolls please. Just insanity. My proposals: Drizzt vs. Raistlin Everybody's favorite dark-elf manages to stumble into Krynn before Weis and Hickman royally screw everybody by blowing up the moon, accompanied by his favorite swords Twinkie and FrostedDeath (Frosting Death? I've always imagined it was some kind of fossilized drow snackcake) and his pet kitty kat. Raistlin smokes him without thinking twice, while Cyan Bloodbane discovers that Gwen makes a nice chaser to a Silvanesti sandwich. Advantage: Raistlin. Being an ambidextrous, introspective dark elf just isn't going to save your butt when the company's baddest mage (sorry El) has got your number. Erevis Cale vs. Elminsiter Elminster, now godless, a little off his nut, and generally ******, wanders the shattered Realm looking for a little payback. Mask sends Cale after El as an in memoriam "screw you" to Mystra. Cale learns Shades can experience a world of pain, while Elminster discovers priests of Mask can make even the Chosen bleed. OK, I/m copping ot. THey get drunk, invade the hells, and turn several demonic overlords into paperweights. El passes out, and Cale wisely backstabs him into the Great Beyond. (C) Alusair and Vangy--sorry, never mind. I've always hated Alusair, but I doubt Vangy would kill her (even after his unfortunate transformation). Just random joke scenarios, NOT fan fiction, respecting WOTC's copyright in its entirety, and not claiming knowledge, possession, or any other particle of ownership of this sandbox. |
| #2americanlordJun 03, 2008 22:27:12 | I want to play! I want to play! :D Caramon Majere from Dragon Lance vs. Wulfgar from Forgotten Realms I think Wulfgar wins. He is bigger and much stronger. He also has a magic hammer that returns to his hand after he throws it. Does anyone agree or disagree? |
| #3nopityforacowardJun 03, 2008 22:32:10 | I want to play! I want to play! :D Yeah, in his current state from what I've read. He is a emo barbarian that coulnd't hold a women that promised to marry him and left him for a Drow. And now spends most of his time sitting by fires staring at it for hours on in. There are none more usless than Drizzt's party. Don't even get me started on the half-ling that needs to be saved every chapter rather than just being usless is bad enough. It's always something like Drizzt tells only him where he is going than cattribee beats him and finds out soon running after Drizzt. Is this saturday morning cartoons or something? |

Is that what has been happening to these characters? I have only read about them in the first three books "The Crystal Shard" "Streams of Silver' "The Halfling's Gem" What woman was going to marry Wulfgar? What Drow did she run off with? |
| #5creyzi4zb12Jun 04, 2008 5:15:00 | Battle of the Titans Ao vs Chaos -After the kender stabs the big red guy in the foot, Chaos didn't really die. He then visits his friend Ao from another realm to heal his injuries. Chaos tries to ask Ao to heal his injuries...Ao used magic to treat him with a wrinkle of his nose, unfortunately the spellplague breaks loose a second before he does the first aid....four years later Chaos dies of tetanus. |
| #6umbralknightJun 04, 2008 5:15:30 | Raistlin kills Drizzt and his whole party in one round. Unless in that round, he starts coughing. ... Wulfgar vs. Caramon Wulfgar but Wulfgar vs. Minsc No brainer. But-kicking for goodness for the win. Szass Tam vs. Manshoon Lichdom for the win. Scaling things up a tad Bane vs. Cyric These two evil bastards stop playing tug-of-war with the black network, and start beating the divinity out of each other. Cyric gets the wild-card sympathy vote, but overall Bane has the edge when it comes to combat. King Leonidas and the Hot Gates vs. Obould Many-Arrows' entire army Drizzt eat your heart out. |
| #7joefirebritchesJun 04, 2008 8:51:07 | STRAHD vs. DRACULA vs. COUNT CHOCULA vs. THE COUNT Everybody's favorite Undead gather for a few drinks and to talk about the good old days before calling it a night. Someone shouts out, "Look, it's the King of the Undead!" Unfortunately both Strahd and Drac turn to take a bow. Things get heated, and the next thing you know Strahd and Dracula are throwing down. Unfortunately for Strahd, Drac is a psychotic military despot with a penchant for impalement and contempt for anything not Drac. Strahd ends up so much frustrated mulch beneath the Prince of Darkness's feet. The Count and Chocula, seeing how things are going, beat a hasty retreat to Sesame Street. There they enjoy endless bowls of chocolate flavored marshmallow kibble, with the Count in near catatonic glee as he counts each Marshmallow (22 . . 23 . AH-AH-AH-AH). Drac decides to eliminate them and follows them to Sesame Street. Someone should have warned him about Sunny Days/ Chasing the/Clouds AWAAAAAAAAAAAY." Drac turns into brisquette, and the Count and Chocula lived happily ever after. |

| #10lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 12:52:39 | -We've had this thread before. It was decided that I won, ultimatley. |
| #11bonzaiJun 04, 2008 13:07:15 | Elminister Vs Gandolf The two great mages square off for the ultimate showdown. After today, there would only be one meddling, floppy hat wearing wizard around. However, before the duel, Elminister askes if he might get to puff on his pipe first. Gandolf thought it would be an excellent idea, and pulled out his own pipe. Next thing you know, they are both very hopped up on some extremely strong hafling leaf and forget why they are fighting to begin with. So, suddenly feeling very hungry, they decide to go to Denny's for some grand slams. Outcome: a Draw! |
| #12joefirebritchesJun 04, 2008 16:33:25 | ELAITH CRAULNOBER VS. LORD KARSUS:P Elaith, surviving the hundred years jump, ****** at his damnably changed world, and bereft of his favorite author, decides to remind everyone on Faerun just why they call him the Serpent. He begins a clandestine assassination of the Realms message board, bribing support staff and "editors" alike to diminish the Realms. Lord Karsus, Master of the Obvious . . . okay, wait, just what are your powers again? Hmm . . . .couldn't find any Karsian stats . . .:D Okay, the Realms fall victim to the Serpent's bile . . . or does it? Stay tuned, true believers, as we await the response of Lord Karsus. In the meantime . . . ELAITH CRAULNOBER vs. ARTEMIS ENTRERI Artemis Entreri goes into a bar-- Elaith's bar-- and mentions that he hates elves, pointed ears, and drow, not necessarily in that order. A blood bath ensues. Each warrior bleeding from the others cuts, Elaith smiles at the cuts his poisoned blade has left on Artemis's body--even as he feels the first effects of the poison from the human assassin's blade. Both men tumble to the floor dead, to the relief of mortal beings everywhere. |
| #13lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 16:52:20 | Lord Karsus, Master of the Obvious . . . okay, wait, just what are your powers again? -Lord Karsus transcends stats. He has no need for them, as, if anyone wants to get to him, they first need to best the Hands of Karsus, his group of elite and utterly loyal servants. I have all the respect to Elaith Craulnober, but he is no match. |
| #14joefirebritchesJun 04, 2008 17:56:42 | LORD KARSUS vs. ELAITH CRAULNOBER (PART II):D Lord Karsus, the Doogie Howser of Netherese Arcanists (Mentalist), newly incarnated somehow (trading up from his boulder of blood form), takes exception to the Serpent's actions. Elaith is found buried in several improbable places, and seems to have been violated by a werechicken before being devoured by various fiends of unknown origin. In lighter news, the Hands of Karsus win a year's supply of Jergens. (Rimshot). Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all evening . . or until the Hands of Karsus find me. ![]() (Confidentially, are you that Lord Karsus, or is these another fellow roaming the Realms with that nom de guerre? If that you is you, do you feel a bit more ambivalent about Mystra's death, given your own role in Mystryl's demise? Just curious. ) Irreverent and Irrespressible, Joe Firebritches ![]() |
| #15lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 18:05:33 | (Confidentially, are you that Lord Karsus, or is these another fellow roaming the Realms with that nom de guerre? -Someone else is claiming to be me? Do you know how often that happens to me!? (If that you is you, do you feel a bit more ambivalent about Mystra's death, given your own role in Mystryl's demise? Just curious. ) -I, personally, never liked Mysta too much. I always felt that she was "stretched" to fill roles that needent be assigned to her (Divine Magic and Psionics needing the Weave, for instance), and that Mystra was often stressed 'too much', in relation to other deities and entities. All that, aside however, I do not like the way she was killed. If it were in a decent way, that made sense and didn't fall apart when analyzed, I'd be more supportive of it. |
| #16GreenKnightJun 04, 2008 18:28:34 | I do not like the way she was killed You mean killed by Cyric, the creepy psycho stalker, who yelled "PWNED YOU!" as he gutted her? |
| #17lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 18:33:12 | You mean killed by Cyric, the creepy psycho stalker, who yelled "PWNED YOU!" as he gutted her? -In her own "house", with none of her "room mates" noticing him walking in the back door, with him not even being scratched, as her "house" fell apart around everyone. |

Who will win in this war of evil despots? CYRIC, still imprisoned, watches as his followers fall into the clutches of Cobra's Empire. Who knew that a fiscally successful criminal empire would have more to offer than a dark, crazy power driven mad by one of its own infernal toys? Plus, I'd put my money on Destro and the Baroness vs. any of Cyric's henchman. COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Oh, and Storm Shadow could smoke anyone. Except Voltron. (and Maybe Snake Eyes). | #29joefirebritchesJun 04, 2008 22:35:02 | FINDER WYVENSPUR VS. BANE The god of tyrrany, smirking over Cyric's imprisonment, decides to settle a few outstanding accounts. Finder, self-appointed god of sauriels, is fronting an emo band somewhere in Neverwinter when Bane stalks through the door. Hypothetically, the slayer of Moander should be able to put up more of a fight. Then again, he's been wandering the realms in a white spangly jumpsuit and crooning hunka-hunka burning love to every braindead, wannabe bard in training. Finder finds himself spayed, flayed, flogged, charred, drawn and quartered, and slow roasted over an open fire in what could be the blink of an eye--but feels like an eternity. Luckily, the new Triad manages to rescue the discount patron of musical renewal, freeing him to once more wander the world of Faerun, putting together boybands in every city. Hey, what the hell happened to Finder? Is he really still around? Please tell Joel smartened up and moved on to another good power. Anyone. Even Sune. |

Even Sune. -Finder Wyvernspur is indeed still a deity. Based on some recent happenings, such as the reopening of bardic colleges across the continent, such as the New Olamm Bardic College, it is likely that Finder has been empowered somewhat. Though, in a few weeks with the introduction of 4e Forgotten Realms, anything is liable to change. With this in mind, it is likely that Finder Wyvernspur will become an exarch (servitor, semi-divine, "saint-like" entity) of either Tymora or Oghma, both of which are likely to retain their deific status. |

| #45nopityforacowardJun 14, 2008 11:56:05 | Even though I like FR better than DL, Raistlin would rock Elimenster. Raistlin took down a Godess, Elimenster serves a Godess. Then again, I love the idea how Raistlin can become a God but can't get rid of a cough. Btw since we are throwing in random fights, I might as well say this: Assasin battle: Sam Fisher>Artemis Artemis hears a noise above him and looks back just fast enough to see the Splinter Cell agent pointing a silencer ready to put one into his dome. |
| #46suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 12:06:00 | Sam Fisher is getting old as well... | #47JudgeDookieJun 14, 2008 12:09:39 | Thibbledorf Pwent vs. Bath Water This is one fight that Pwent simply does not want. While he can impale drow all day and night in complete ecstasy, he knows that Bath Water is an all encompassing force that can swallow him whole. This is an opponent that can penetrate any armor and dwarf any foe—even a dwarf. Bath Water knows that Pwent is going to fight dirty. In the end, he knows he is going to come out feeling unclean and less clear about things than he was before. This battle will leave him drained and empty when it's all over. In a fight to the death tub match, these two will enter. Only one will leave alive. ![]() |

A shade enhanced Artemis will dodge that bullet and his magic daggertoss to the neck will make Sam get a red smile in the wrong place. :P Well, guns are better than swords, so it would even out. Artemis has endurance advantage, but FIsher never really moves around that much, and aiming a gun has nothing to do with stainima my friend, so no, artemis would not dogde a bullet. You have to be pretty damn fast to do that. It's not like Fisher has trouble holding a gun now....moving your arm does not make you run out of breath dude. Logic+1 But if for some reason you still disagree, what about Snake(Metal gear solid) vs Drizzt? Master cheif(halo)+Samus(Metroid) vs Raistlin+Elimenster Dante(Devil may cry) vs Evris Cale |
| #49suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 13:18:29 | Yeah, I was playing with ye... Dodging a bullet is impossible. How about rehashing the Seal vs Drow debate? ![]() Bear in mind I am no Metal Gear fanboy so Snake would get floored if he kept whining over his Mom or something... If Snake fought on Toril that is... (no guns). I might agree that on Snakes turf (like somewhere in a blasted out city on 2014 Earth) Drizzt won't stand a chance. Master cheif(halo)+Samus(Metroid) vs Raistlin+Elminster(notice the spelling) cybernetic enhanced humans vs archmages the chief and samus dont stand a chance... magic is better than armor and bullets Dante.. I like this dude but I wonder how he would tranlate into stats. Dont know really... Erevis is smarter, a better team player, and has some powerfull teleportation abilities. Dante would be a better swordsman I think. |
| #50nopityforacowardJun 14, 2008 13:42:58 | Yeah, I was playing with ye... Dodging a bullet is impossible. But anticipating the timing of the shooting adversary i.e. the moment he squeezes the trigger is very much possible in the situation you described with Artemis noticing Sam before he took shot... It doesn't matter if you notice him before he squeezes the trigger. Tell me bro, what's faster, pulling your finger or moving your entire body out of the way? How about rehashing the Seal vs Drow debate? Whinning over his mom? Dude he is a clone? Wtf are you talking about? Do you even know what metal gear solid is? Why would snake fight without a gun? I don't think you understand what he is capable of. He would pumble Drizzt. Here is a prime example that Red Wizard can't seem to grasp (the member, not the characters from the books): http://youtube.com/watch?v=cQPP2jsveL8&feature=related Master cheif(halo)+Samus(Metroid) vs Raistlin+Elminster(notice the spelling) I agree if it was a straight up fair fight. But let's say if each team had all the advantages they needed. Master cheif having all the vehicles to his arsenal and Elminster having his Godess grant him spells. BTW, I don't doubt that Eliminster would have more power backing him, but if Chief is allowed to call down a orbital mac cannon shot, it's all over. Dante.. I like this dude but I wonder how he would tranlate into stats. Why is Everis smarter? And what does being a team player have to do with a solo fight? Teleportation? Dude, dante is a demon, not only is he a better sword fighter, he uses guns and demonic abilties. Dante would curb stomp Everis. I don't care if Cale is calling on Mask for new spells. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ejLuaOfdnbY |

| #53suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 13:59:38 | Yes, theses are the FR boards. It's not that common to include scifi like videogame characters and pit them against some fantasy ones in a deathmatch... Look those videogame charcters are cool and all, but they rely on a whole universe to abide by their personal laws so they can be uber. A novel character in a shared world as Fearun has a lot more inherent realism as they can't change the rules of combat to exclude some abilities moste enemies have... intelligence. Yeah, videogame A.I. I am looking at you. Are there any novels on Dante or Solid? I heard Master Chief has some... |
| #54nopityforacowardJun 14, 2008 14:05:24 | Are there any novels on Dante or Solid? I heard Master Chief has some... Yes they have their own novels, comics, mangas, animated series. Go to Boarders or Amazon.com to read them. And Halo has novels, not dedicated only to Master Cheif. And btw, I just wanted to say that even though you stoped the debate, I still won, I threw down facts and concepts that would make sense. People usually say they don't care anymore when they are defeated. It's a coward's way out. |
| #55suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 14:08:40 | What! You calling me a coward?! Engarde! |
| #56nopityforacowardJun 14, 2008 14:12:30 | What! Can you do me a favor then? Read my debate and give it 1 conclusion? Since I don't play the DnD game, the kind of concept I gave out is more of intrest to me than FR vs other FR characters, so I don't really get a chance to ask the stuff I would like to. I apperciate it if you do, but uh, I'm sure RW will be here in no time and fail horrbily to defend FR. |

| #60suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 20:34:27 | Agreed. Its not the way.It doesn't matter if you notice him before he squeezes the trigger. Tell me bro, what's faster, pulling your finger or moving your entire body out of the way? Its about initiative here, i.e. deciding to trigger the gun or move out of the way. Yeah the shot can be executed much faster, but its also the most predictable move. One that Artemis might be able to predict and respond too in a split second. Whinning over his mom? Dude he is a clone? Wtf are you talking about? Do you even know what metal gear solid is? Why would snake fight without a gun? I don't think you understand what he is capable of. He would pumble Drizzt. Here is a prime example that Red Wizard can't seem to grasp (the member, not the characters from the books): http://youtube.com/watch?v=cQPP2jsveL8&feature=related No guns? See the SEALS thread... Snake stands in the left corner and adjusts his headband. Drizzt flexes his neck never loosing sight of his prey in the other corner. *ding ding* the fight is on. After 2 rounds of circling eachother Snake makes the first move going for a testing jab. The moment Snake thinks he connect his follow up hook the drow zipps under his defence with a blow to the kidneys and a simple flooring sweep breaks the neck of poor Snake. We have a winner... But wait. Bob! Oh no! A matron mother has cast Zincarla on Snake and he rises again broken neck and all! Drizzt gets chased round the corners untill the undead Snake gets a hold of the drow. Snakes undead strength is no match for the elf and the drow struggles and bloats and explodes in a gory violent rain of blood. Undead Snake wins I agree if it was a straight up fair fight. After the Barrage is fired and nearly hits the mages both cast Empowered Timestop after eachother. Teleport to Master Chief. Remove Chiefs helmet with a telekinese spell. Read his mind for the information of the orbital ship with the mac cannon. Choose a list of spells to envellope him and the opposing team. Turn invisible and wait for the magic show to tear them apart when the Timestop ends. Teleport to the orbital ship. Then mind control the orbital cannon operators to blast the rest of the alied forces of master chief to particle matters. Why is Everis smarter? And what does being a team player have to do with a solo fight? Teleportation? Dude, dante is a demon, not only is he a better sword fighter, he uses guns and demonic abilties. Dante would curb stomp Everis. I don't care if Cale is calling on Mask for new spells. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ejLuaOfdnbY Cale would staredown Dante like a puppy. Dante is a half fiend... probably very powerfull. But he doesn't think as clean as Cale. Dante goes all out. Cale only suppress himself in most battles. Dante has more bravado. Cale doesn't need that. I might call this one a draw if Cale couldn't use spells but only his Shade ablilties. A simple hold spell (paralyzation) would do the trick against a low willed trickster as Dante. |

| #67nopityforacowardJun 15, 2008 11:41:07 | Agreed. Its not the way. Dude, Fisher is a master of shadows. You seem to think Artemis will know where he is when he shoots, and you don't seem to put into consideration that Sam always uses a silencer. Here's how it would go down: Jarlaxelle tells Artemis in drow signal hand motions that he wants this assasin alive and to use for profitable purposes. While the 2 are distracted with looking at each others hands, fisher stalks into the shadows behind jarlaxelle and wraps a strong forearm around the 5'3(tiny compared to sam) drow with a knife to his neck and his gun hand pointing the weapon at Artemis using Jarlaxelle as a body shield. I can imagine Jarlaxelle thinking he is so slick having his magic help him make no sounds in the dark, oblivious to the fact that fisher has thermal/night vision, and is tempted to chuckle at the easy target drow and human assasin. Agreed. Its not the way. Dude, yes guns?(I am skeptical to as of why so many of you fanboys of FR try so hard to get rid of guns in these concept topics, do you fear them? Do you know deep down that if you allow guns in use, the winner will be clear? Maybe I should take away FR magic and keep technology in play and see how you like it in vise versa point of view) Is this the Seal topic?(no) See this thread..(you agreed to debate with my concept battle friend ;) ) Drizzt could not keep sight of his prey for the fact that Snake has invisable cloaking technology. *Ring Ring* Snake checks his codec and gets full intel on his enemy, Drizzt slowly putting 1 foot in front of the other being cautious unaware of his enemies location. Snake takes out a 9mm silenced traquilizer gun and puts one into Drizzt's dome. Snake calls in for a evac chopper, and has Drizzt brought back to HQ for intergation. Yeah, I really can't see Cheif or Samus beating Rastlin or Elminster even with all the upgrades and arsenls to their disposel. It's not like the AI cortona can caculate magic into a strategic win. I'll give you this one. Cale would staredown Dante like a puppy. Cale would not staredown Dante like a puppy, for he would have no face after reading what's to come. Seeing in ShadowBred how Cale was such a retard and sat there hoping to absorb Rivalens attack twice and just took a full blast. I see no reason he wouldn't try the same with Dante. Dante would hold up his double barrel sawed off shot gun and Cale standing there with his sword in parry motion gets his face blown back into the 9 hells without the chance of his shade body repairing itself. Dante has had scythes, bullets, massive demon swords put into his flesh, and has walked it off like it was nothing. A motorcycle has been thrown at him only for him to take a seat and put a hand up stopping it no different than neo does with bullets. Never in all 4 DVMC games, have I seen Dante ever show anything other than a smile at his foes. He does not have fear. I don't know if you were thinking that Cale could intimidate Dante? Btw buddy, hence the quote: "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight". I agree that Fantasy middle-aged theme would beat Real life technology. But, if it is true that real life technology would beat real life middle-aged theme, than wouldn't you agree that Fantasy technology would beat fantasy middle-aged theme? |

But, if it is true that real life technology would beat real life middle-aged theme, than wouldn't you agree that Fantasy technology would beat fantasy middle-aged theme? I agree a gun trumps a sword. Why do you keep thinking guns trump magic? For example mind control magic is a defence those videogame heroes dont deal with often compared to realms characters who know how it swings battles in and instant. Perhaps Snake (he fought a mindcontrolling boss nay?) is an exception here. Magic also brings along a whole range of gadgets that outperform guns or make them less effective. Most wands are more accurate than pistols and an enchanted leather with a protection vs arrows works as an improved bulletproof vest. Some simple illusions can trick people and the more complex ones even most technological sensors. Dude. You should check out a Shadowrun forum! Its a futuristic cyberpunk setting with magic added in. Dragons rule MegaCorporations and mages, streetsamurai and netrunners work together with guns, tech and magic to fight for whatever they want to attain. And have you ever seen the clayman show which this thread emulates? Its an over the top wrestling match i.e. no guns or swords unless you cheat (which is allowed ;)). |

I said that Fantasy middle-aged would beat real life technology. But hence: Fantasy technology: Rechargable energy shield armor, Plasma pistols, auto-aiming systems. | #77StiggerJun 15, 2008 17:53:08 | Gun oil has a fairly distinctive smell, to me anyway... would probably give away the presence of a gun-weilder, even with a suppressor attached, so just being silent isn't quite good enough. Though on the gun-weilder (well, pistol anyway) side, doubtful anyone would think it was more than a hand-crossbow and be in for one hell of a surprise if they were counting on their armor to deflect the hit and probable poison... slight miscalculation there. :D Though to be honest, I have no idea who any of those blokes you mentioned there are Entomb (I like this name more actually), beyond knowing they came from games I never bothered with. :P |
| #78GreenKnightJun 15, 2008 18:12:24 | Speaking of guns and magic, I've been reading the Fables comic series for a good long while, now, and they've got just that sort of conflict going on right now. You've got the Empire, which is in control of all the European Fable worlds. They're your typical D&D setting, with goblin fodder making up most of their armed forces, wooden soldiers (Warforged) making up the elite, dragons, wizards, etc. A fullfledged D&D army in all its might. Then you've got Fabletown, which is composed of expatriates who fled the Fable homeworlds for Earth to escape from the Empire's encroachment. They've been building up their strength for years and have recently declared war on the Empire. Being from the modern world, of course, they've naturally brought along modern weapons with them along with their magic. It's pretty cool. For one thing, they've got a flying ship they're using to travel around the Empire. It's a regular wooden ship, except it's got a couple hundred flying carpets nailed to the inside of the hull, thus it can fly. That keeps them safe from the endless hordes of goblins controlled by the Empire. And every time a dragon comes flying near... BLAM! Sniper takes him out. They spot a wizard taking a crap? Sniper. They spot a wizard eating his lunch? Sniper. They've also been moving around the capital world of the Empire dropping bunker buster bombs on the portals to cut off the homeworld from the rest of the Empire. Of course, things went south at the end of the most recent issue, as the Empire threw every single flying unit they had at their airship. Every dragon, most every wizard, etc. Although they appear prepared for it, as Prince Charming even had a name for what they were going to do next, "Operation: Metal Storm" or something. Interesting to see how that battle works out. The battle between Guns and Magic continues! :D |

Or did I misread?(honest question, none sarcastic) Though to be honest, I have no idea who any of those blokes you mentioned there are Entomb (I like this name more actually), beyond knowing they came from games I never bothered with. :P So you know the meaning eh? Not many people understand it. It's like saying a funeral for a robot almost. That's why I like sky eats airplane. Their songs are very confusing: Long walks on short bridges/Everything is perfect on the wrong day/Honest Hitchhikers/She is just a glitch/The Opposite Viewed In Real Time. All my names are from bands. Suicide silence Job for a cowboy Beneath the sky As blood runs black It's like when you go to a concert to see a band play, they don't wear t-shirts of themselves, they wear t-shirts of other bands. So I ask myself why people here put: "Karsus/Red Wizard/Drizzt" and so on. We all know you are here for FR, just like people are here for that band despite the t-shirt. It's not like you guys are RPing on this forum. So have fun, we know you like FR even if your name isn't Realms based. ;) GreenKnight man, that is freaking bad ass. You see, my concepts aren't all of pointlesness and stupidy. FR is fantasy and made up. and fun. So why not a few of my concepts as well? | #81StiggerJun 15, 2008 18:36:14 | Depends on a lot of things... whether or not the other guy smells the gun oil, whether or not they underestimate the weapon, hears the electronic hum of the nightvision... if everything goes Sam's way, I've no doubt he would waste Artemis (it was Artemis, right?), but if he's spotted, his chances for a win are severely diminished, especially if Artemis closes the distance and engages at point-blank range, which really doesn't favor the pistol-bearer since you can lock an arm or stay inside their reach and mess them up badly with a bladed weapon if you've enough skill, which I'm fairly sure Artemis does. If he's got the rifle and range on his side, then Artemis had better hope he's got lots of cover to hide behind as he tries to close on Sam... otherwise he's pretty much toast. Can't say I'm familiar with the name or its meaning actually. Sounds like a metal reference, and I'm not much into metal to be honest. Still a cool mental image though, of obsolete machines discarded and forgotten, sitting there just rusting and letting entropy happen. |

Well he does have a knife he often uses as well as many killing blow techiques. But those techniques won't work on Artemis since he is a master of melee. But I'm sure Sam would notice the sword and dagger and being the top assasin, have common sense not to get close enough for Artemis to use his weapon. Can't say I'm familiar with the name or its meaning actually. Sounds like a metal reference, and I'm not much into metal to be honest. | #83StiggerJun 15, 2008 18:56:06 | Depends on the terrain and under what circumstances they met, what the terrain advantages were, if any, etcetera and so forth. Um, I don't know if you ever played Splinter cell, but most of the game, he is in that maze-like structure, that is where most of his espinoge takes place my friend. He does stuff like splits between 2 walls hanging above his victims. Sometimes hanging by 2 legs on a pipe from the ceiling in order to grab a victim by the neck covering his mouth and choking him to death or simply snapping his neck so not even the silence is needed. Ironicly, I would have thought that the terrain advantages would have been vise versa. Sam fisher is not rambo, he is a assasin/spy of darkness and uses everything to his advantage. |

| #113nopityforacowardJun 16, 2008 14:51:45 | What's the difference between a technological sword and a magical one, beyond the magical one probably being lighter and less reliant on power sources? :P Because a technology sword requires less strain from your body and is more percise and efficent. A enchanted sword can only go as far as the enchaters imperfect abilities. Yet, a machine does not make mistakes and can caculate faster than any mortal brain can. Imagine if you get your sword enchantment dispeled by a powerful wizard or something, your screwed. When Drizzt fought Artemis, Jarlaxell took away any enchantments. If you have a tech sword, it can not be undone. Ever seen matrix? Terminator? Robo Cop? All those machines in the movie outdo their human creators. -Heh. Nice. What is? |

| #115StiggerJun 16, 2008 15:01:22 | Which is an amusing thought, since technology will never exceed the capabilities its imperfect engineer creators gives to it... take away an energy source, and technology is generally screwed... EMP's and the like are pretty good at disabling technology on a fairly permanent basis, whereas a dispelling generally just suppresses a magical enchantment, unless its something like a disjunction, which aren't exactly common. When it comes down to it, magic and technology aren't really much different from one another, beyond technology being easier for anyone to access, as opposed to the semi-exclusivity of magic. |
| #116shiyongsengJun 17, 2008 1:04:41 | Jeggred Baenre Vs. Raziel and Kain (Soul Reaver) Jeggred kicks the snot out of both of them in claw-to-claw, and Kain turns to mist to get out of his reach.. Kain gets ticked and slams him against the wall with his telekinesis yelling "Vae Victus" then laughs his evil laugh, and has a lite snack of blood from afar as he speaks to him in that oh so condsending tone. Raziel after losing many corpses to the claw-to-claw fight with Jeggred gets PO'd, spears him to the wall and swallows the furball's soul. Kain and Raziel then have a belching contest over the contents of what they just pwned. "Alas, poor Jeggred, I knew him well... Well not really". Then everybody does The Monster Mash! |

| #118nopityforacowardJun 17, 2008 9:46:30 | Tell that To MY Computer (stupid thing....) or MY CAR!!!!! oh oh... and to you have any idea how much a freaking M-16 Malfuntions? I'm sorry that an idiot made your computer and car. Both my car and computer never mess up. It's not the car or computers fault, it's the manufacturer or the human who screwed up. And screw your M-16, standard peice of crap. The one reason we use that over AK's is because we don't like the idea of another country supplying us when we could potentialy be at war with them. Technology doesn't make mistakes, people make mistakes. Which is an amusing thought, since technology will never exceed the capabilities its imperfect engineer creators gives to it... take away an energy source, and technology is generally screwed... EMP's are technology too stigger. So your telling me, a magic is going to use technology to beat technology and then give all credit to the magic??Rofl..That's like me saying I am a sword fighter and I use a gun to beat another gun slinger, and then claim that swords are the best. As for your dispeleing theory, no, it depends on the caster if it only merely supresses and completely destroyes the enchantment. I really hate to say this stigger, but you think terribly like RW. In his mind, not one Drow can be harmed by a bullet, yet in every novel I've read they been taken down by a mere cross-bolt poison tip (I'm no scientist but I am pretty sure that Guns>Cross-bolts). See the idea is that, as technology advances, everything becomes easier while still being powerful in a sense. Where as, magic, you must train daily, remember spells throughout your mind, concentrate. And the thing is, when you learn this magic, ONLY the user has that power. Where as of technology can be mass produced. So let's say magic and technology were to go to war: Technology creates this nice new rifle for instance of equal power to Elimenster's new spell he summoned from his Godess. Now, that new rifle is in every soilders hand with a manufacturing line, where as that spell is only with Elimenster. Who wins? |
| #119red_wizardJun 17, 2008 11:49:19 | Well since you brought me into this, I'll happily point out for your flawed logic, that 95% + of all the magic items available can be used by ANYONE. Just like guns. Also you're better off comparing a Physicist to a Wizard in the complexity of their studies, than an average Joe to a wizard. Additionally I have NEVER stated that Drow can not be killed. I have never stated they were immune to bullets either. That is merely your interpretation of my words. What I was and am stating, is that a Drow prepared properly, an assumption that the prior debate was fair (a concept you didn't want to work under), would mean that the Drows defenses would trump those of a group of men with guns. Telling me they can not prepare for SEALS, would be me telling you your SEALS must defend themselves naked an unarmed. Now, to your comment on the infallibility of technology, you are again incorrect. Time can destroy even the greatest of creations, and the right conditions can speed, or slow, this process. Technology as we know it, must conform to the laws of physics as we know them. Magic is under no such obligation. Your gun is rendered useless with a simple rusting grasp. Your tank is disabled with a single Ray of disintegration. EMP's are a concept, made possible with technology yes, but occurring naturally in nature. Nature came before knowledge, and thus its recreation via magic is no less valid than your technology. Magic can create that which is needed to destroy technology with but a flick of the wrist. You can't combat that with anything we currently have. So to your question of who would win, men with Elminster stopping weapons, or Elminster himself, can be answered simply. Ignoring that Elminster doesn't even have to be on the same planet to snuff them from existence, he could feasibly hire peons to defend him, and outfit them all with rods, or rings that duplicate spell effects of a more volatile nature. In the end, Magic wins again. -RW P.S. As technology advances, it becomes more complex, not easier. Simplicity comes in the ability for regular people to use it's base functions. It does not mean that some random person on the street could possibly comprehend the intricate workings of the piece itself. |
| #120StiggerJun 17, 2008 11:50:45 | Erm... that EMP versus technology was a response to the idea that a wizard could dispel the enchantment on a sword that you included up there. This statement of yours in particular:Imagine if you get your sword enchantment dispeled by a powerful wizard or something, your screwed. You're arguement there falls victim to itself, since obviously both technology and magic have developed a measure/counter-measure system for themselves... ECM/EW in general are proof enough of that for technology, as are spells like Dispel Magic. Beyond that, technology cannot suppress, much less dispel a magical effect, while a mage could conceivably generate a magical effect that unleased an EMP given that mages play with energy effects all the time (what's a light spell afterall, other than generating an electromagnetic energy effect?). While I agree that the likelihood of a mage coming up with such an effect without ever having dealt with electronic technology or some knowledge of physics is so abyssmally low as to be laughable, my point is that its within their capabilities on a theoretical level. As to guns versus crossbow bolts, I'm fairly sure that a longbow generates more energy at point blank ranges than any assault rifle, though probably not a high-power hunting or anti-material rifle, mass/velocity wise anyway. despite the faster decay of said energy in said bolt/arrow, though I've no idea about a crossbow. On your point about magic and training/memory, that only applies to a Vancian system. Get away from that and head towards a system as it was used in something like Mage:the Ascension and guns start looking very pale indeed. You'd probably love the Technocracy from that setting really... As to who wins, well, obviously in the situation you conjured there, presuming the equal power levels, technology will obviously win. But since you stacked the deck there from the word go, so its not exactly proof of anything. Though a mage doesn't summon spells from a godess, that's what clerics are for. ;) Though on a side note, I have no idea who this Elimenster fellow is. ;) :P |
| #121nopityforacowardJun 17, 2008 17:52:57 | What I was and am stating, is that a Drow prepared properly, an assumption that the prior debate was fair (a concept you didn't want to work under), Yeah, because I'm the one in the begening of that topic who wanted to say Electronics did not work in the Realms world. Fairness-1 And if you want to get technical, Tech does not work in FR world, what would magic do to make a EMP? And if they were at war, I seriosuly doubt they could start out from Middle-Aged Era advancment and suddenly have the science to figure how to make an EMP pulse ray. RW and Stigger, watch this video and tell me tech would not stand to magic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6E7K8726MU&feature=related Btw, I'd love to see Elimenster take a Mac Cannon straight to his dome and live: advanced magnetic acceleration cannons to create orbital defense platforms that could launch a 9.14m 6000 metric ton projectile at .4 percent of the speed of light. Later, when the war became more and more grim, the humans in a scorched earth policy started 'safe guarding' planets with a fictional "NOVA" bomb, a nuclear weapon capable of destroying an entire planet with a possible power of 100 teratons of TNT. Or how about super advanced tech of Plasma?-A Covenant interstellar spacecraft can fire plasma torpedoes. They would bombard planets, melting the surface. When the surface of the planet would reharden, it was glass. This gave way to the term "glassing." All structures and inhabitants of the planet would be lost. Oh by the way, as far as magic goes for usefulness, how would a illusionist fool a machines or cameras view? |
| #122red_wizardJun 17, 2008 19:07:50 | Yeah, because I'm the one in the begening of that topic who wanted to say Electronics did not work in the Realms world. Fairness-1 They don't work there. As Magic wouldn't work here. Thus the two would never fight under normal terms. Which then leaves us to wonder, why ask the question? The answer is simple. It was hypothetical. And, with all hypothetical questions, one must take all info into regard in order to end up with an answer. Regardless, that thread is done. And if you want to get technical, Tech does not work in FR world, what would magic do to make a EMP? With magic anything could be possible given the available information. That said, as I pointed out something like disintegrate would be enough to neutralize any tank, aircraft, or orbital weapon. What manner of defense could you see tech having against something that takes matter, and turns it instantaneously to dust. And if they were at war, I seriosuly doubt they could start out from Middle-Aged Era advancment and suddenly have the science to figure how to make an EMP pulse ray. They don't NEED EMP to combat opponents, but magic could feasibly cause such a burst, even on a smaller scale. RW and Stigger, watch this video and tell me tech would not stand to magic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6E7K8726MU&feature=related I humored you as always, and watched this video. Aside from it looking like an interesting game, I'll tell you what I saw. A Necromancer sending legions of undead against soldiers who didn't know how to combat them. For every soldier killed, the Necromancer gets another warrior. How do you fight that limitless army? Btw, I'd love to see Elimenster take a Mac Cannon straight to his dome and live: advanced magnetic acceleration cannons to create orbital defense platforms that could launch a 9.14m 6000 metric ton projectile at .4 percent of the speed of light. I'd like to see them locate Elminster so that they could hit him in the dome with this mac cannon. I hate to break it to you, but if hundreds of powerful wizards have failed to kill him before, what makes you think men with no knowledge of his abilities can hope to bring him down? :P Later, when the war became more and more grim, the humans in a scorched earth policy started 'safe guarding' planets with a fictional "NOVA" bomb, a nuclear weapon capable of destroying an entire planet with a possible power of 100 teratons of TNT. And then one wizard uses fabricate, creates a ball of antimatter, and destroys the entire galaxy. Since you want to get ridiculous, lets see them combat that. Oh by the way, as far as magic goes for usefulness, how would a illusionist fool a machines or cameras view? Well since machines don't get Will saves, they'd fool those systems incredibly easily. Those spells simulate visual, audio, and temperature, the three things any machine worth it's metal will look for. -RW |
| #123lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 23:34:31 | -I seem to remember something... Admiral Motti: Any attack made by the Rebels against this station would be a useless gesture, no matter what technical data they have obtained. This station is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it. Darth Vader: Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force. Admiral Motti: Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerous ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' hidden fortress... :: Motti chokes :: Darth Vader: I find your lack of faith disturbing... |
