I made a campaign where it was alot like the ebberon campaign, with skyships, lightning rails, etc.... where magic replaced simple technology. How would you forsee the future or far future of toril, say 500 years or more? Would you have made it magically advanced, or technologically advanced? One great nation, or the same smaller kingdoms, or governments? |

Time of Troubles VII, the come back of the revenge ? The spellplague, the Eleventh one ? No more gods, no more magic, no more humans, another Big Bang ? Have you ever seen "Planet of the Apes" ? In the last scene of the movie, the human hero finds the Statue of Liberty, buried in the sand... |

As the Old Grey Box states:- "The physics of the Realms are slightly out of sync with the rest of the planes, so that gunpowder and many technological devices which operate on electronics do not function. Equivalent devices may be developed by player-characters. DM’s judgment is advised as to what may be allowed into the world." [DM's Sourcebook of the Realms pg. 9] Note that it is the rule for the officially published Realms setting. It is a guideline for the individual DM's home Realms campaign. |

| #7passivearmadaMar 27, 2008 14:24:16 | I think it'd be cool if one of the savage races took major control of an area and the one last remaining alliance of the goodly nations continually sent parties of adventurers in to decapitate the threat, but to no avail. Kind of like a Mordor vs. the West thing, except itd be like everybody, instead of just Gondor and Rohan. You know I feel inspired to write a campaign.... *marches off to plan!* |
| #8wolf_bladegxMar 31, 2008 3:14:41 | In five centuries, with the asumption that everyone is still alive, things could start to look a bit like Eborron. After all It seems like every gnome and their mother tries building an airship at some point (with mixed results). Trains are a possibility, after all, don't they have a lightning elemental bound into them? There's also the chance that the Artificer will stick as a base class, meaning the FR setting will start to show that influence. While I like the FR setting as it is I would at least like to see airships become a little more common, and not the blimp things those granny gnomes come up with, i want to see those kick arse fire elemental bound ones... Ooo...fire...:D |
| #9rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 31, 2008 10:04:47 | I wouldn't enjoy that at all. I think a setting should be played to it's own strengths, not "morphed" into a totally different setting. |
