So I'm trying to work out what time the various different rulebooks are set in as I'm trying to find a baseline where I say "If I play in this time, I get the most value out of these sourcebooks."

  • 1356 DR: Volo's Guide to All Things Magical

  • 1357 DR: 1st Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Set, Waterdeep and the North, Old Empires

  • 1358 DR: The Savage Frontier, Anauroch, Horde Campaign, Dwarves Deep, Forgotten Realms Adventures

  • 1359 DR: The Great Glacier, Pirates of the Fallen Stars, The Horde

  • 1365 DR: Volo's Guide to Waterdeep

  • 1366 DR: Volo's Guide to the North

  • 1367 DR: 2nd Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Revised, Cormyr, The Dalelands, The Moonsea! Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast

  • 1368 DR: City of Splendors, The Code of the Harpers, Villains' Lorebook, Volo's Guide to Cormyr

  • 1369 DR: Empires of the Shining Sea, Lands of Intrigue! Volo's Guide to the , Volo's Guide to Lands of Intrigue

  • 1370 DR: The North: Guide to the Savage Frontier, Vilhon Reach, Lands of Intrigue, Hellgate Keep, Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark, For Duty & Deity

  • 1372 DR: 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Silver Marches

  • 1374 DR: Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave

  • 1479 DR: 4th Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide and Forgotten Realms Player's Guide

My admittedly small sampling points to 1370 being the year with the most books, but I've hardly got an exhaustive list. If everyone else helps we'll manage to actually get a pretty interesting picture IMO.

Especially when we consider that all the old books are going to start getting rereleased next year as PDFs?

anything else id have to rummage around and check.

OK, been diggin around, and alot of the early stuff didnt really make clear what the current year was.

But I did find one that specifically stated, 1359 DR-FR14 The Great Glacier

FR10 Old Empires is 1357, everything after that one is 1358 I believe up until FR14 The Great Clacier.

Thanks for that. Everything helps I just noticed the Forgotten Realms wiki actually has some dates. So I've gone and updated my original post with those as well.

I hadn't really appreciated the massive time jump that happened with 4th ed. Before 4th ed, Toril-Abeir had aged 17 years.
