| #1bloddsbaneMar 13, 2009 18:31:10 | I was at Amazon.com getting ready to by Servant of the Shard.. I was shocked to find two books. 1. Servant of the Shard: Path of Darkness(series) 2. Servant of the Shard: The Sellswords. (series) The are both from R.A. Salvatore. Are they the same story with differnt covers and series name. I'm confused... ![]() |
| #2rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 13, 2009 18:43:59 | I was at Amazon.com getting ready to by Servant of the Shard.. It's the same novel--it was once part of the "Paths of Darkness" series, and now it's in "The Sellswords" series. |
| #3bloddsbaneMar 13, 2009 18:46:58 | Cool thanx for the info. I guess I will get the Sellsword verson |
| #4rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 13, 2009 18:49:18 | You're welcome.![]() |
| #5lord_karsusMar 13, 2009 20:36:15 | -As far as I know, nothing changed, except for the cover. So, get whichever cover you think is better. Though I haven't even seen the new cover, anything is probably better than the original cover of Servant of the Shard, with Jarlaxle's head and the Crystal Shard. |
| #6bloddsbaneMar 13, 2009 21:05:40 | The cover with out jarlaxle's head |
| #7markustay63Mar 13, 2009 21:58:41 | Yeah, that was a really strange - and un-enticing - picture for a novel-jacket. The only problem with that 'series' (well actually, I could go on for days...) is that book 2 should really be book 3, and book 2 is missing, unless you count that short story as book 2½. I swear, when I read Promise of the Witch King, I had to look it up online to see if I missed a book - the storyline starts in the middle! There is absolutely NO connection between that and the one that went before. |
| #8drizztsmanchildMar 15, 2009 3:42:09 | Ah but it "technically" wasn't a trilogy. Besides RAS was just giving you a glimpse of what was to come when 3.5e jumped to 4e(i.e. Lack of complete details between the jump):P BTW :Promise of the Wirch king. I think I may have missed that book also ![]() |
| #9rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 16, 2009 13:59:59 | Have to admit I never had a problem with the old SotS cover. As far as bad Drizzt covers go, I think the old Legacy of the Drow covers were the worst. |
| #10bloddsbaneMar 16, 2009 21:48:27 | I have a new question.. Does anyone know about the The Twilight Giants Trilogy Is this a stand alone trilogy? Does does a series begain before this one?![]() |
| #11rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 17, 2009 8:51:23 | I have a new question.. Does anyone know about the The Twilight Giants Trilogy Is this a stand alone trilogy? Does does a series begain before this one? You mean is there a "prequel" trilogy for it? No. Nor is there a "sequel" trilogy. ![]() |
| #12markustay63Mar 17, 2009 10:48:52 | Twilight Giants has nothing to do with Drizzt, or even the Realms for that matter. Picture a trilogy about Giants set on some other world, far, far away from Toril. The story is pretty good, and the characters interesting. Now take that story - unknown kingdom and all - and shoe-horn it into the Forgotten Realms. Although it has supposedly existed for centuries, no one else on Toril has ever heard of it or dealt with - it exists in a vacuum. So yeah... if you want to read a decent yarn about giants and don't care that it has nothing to do with the Realms, then I recommend it. ;) BTW :Promise of the Wirch king. I think I may have missed that book also. Oh look... another comedian. ![]() I'll have you know the Nordic word for witch is 'Gwarch', and what I did there is provide a clever amalgam of the two... ![]() Oh, just leave me alone... I got FAT fingers and the keys are all too close together! :embarrass |
| #13MattDrozMar 17, 2009 14:40:55 | I believe the Twilight Giants is originally set on Oerth/Greyhawk. |
| #14bloddsbaneMar 17, 2009 17:33:43 | Cool thanx |
| #15rinonalyrna_fathomlinMar 17, 2009 18:31:20 | I believe the Twilight Giants is originally set on Oerth/Greyhawk. I read the first novel in the series (haven't gotten to the others), and it's definitely not a Greyhawk novel*. It does feel rather disconnected from the rest of the Realms, though. *I have no idea if the trilogy was originally planned for that setting, though. |
| #16old_sageMar 17, 2009 22:16:47 | Twilight Giants has nothing to do with Drizzt, or even the Realms for that matter. I wouldn't say that's entirely true. The Realms part that is. I only just recently re-read the trilogy last month whereupon I took note of several particular Realmslore references that slipped past me during my initial reading years ago. Plus, I do recall both Brian and Gray making use of some of this info in their own Realmslore-related meanderings. |
| #17MattDrozMar 18, 2009 12:43:51 | Why am I thinking that it was originally set in Greyhawk? Was there another series of novels in Greyhawk that had something to do with Giants? And, I *know* I'm not confusing it with the modules, I seem to distinctly remember paperback novels. |
