With two months until the release of the new 4E Realms setting (FRCG), it seems curious that they haven't made any additional "countdown" articles or teasers. Seems like it's been a (relatively) long time since the last one.

Any guesses as to why? I thought they would give Realms snippets at least monthly.

-We were supposed to get an article about deities in either March or April. Either way, it's June now, and we're still waiting for that article. Don't know why, but apparently, there are other articles floating around, besides for that one, in backlog.

That's what I thought. Wait... wasn't that Iakhovas (sp?) guy who did the GHotR supposed to write the new gods article? (Looks around for Brian, in order to poke him in the stomach, heh!)

maybe they are starting to realize how horribly wrong this all is and are backtracking. They are right now in a "How do we bring back Mystra and turn the clock back 95 years" meeting

-Brian does have an article on Cormyr floating around somewhere. I don't remember if it is a Countdown to the Realms article, or a DDI article, once that gets going.

I am willing to wager that information and articles are being held back, in reaction to a trend where the more information that is leaked about what has been/is being done with the Realms for 4E, the more upset, angry, and demoralized the core fanbase becomes.

I believe rather than telling us precisely which realms, cultures, organizations, deities, and characters are going to be killed, ruined, or obliterated, they would rather we instead cling to desperate hope long enough to shell out $39.95 and find out for ourselves. After that, there is little reason for them to care about any potential backlash, since there are only three FR books being produced, of which the Campaign Guide is likely the most expensive, and you (and I) will have already bought it to find out.

Basically there is this new trend of "buy this book to see if your favorite character lives or dies" which more or less has the same psychological effect of "buy this book or else your favorite character will die" (Blackstaff, the Haunted Lands, Lady Penitent, Expedition to Undermountain, Shadowdale: the Scouring of the Land anyone?). In doing so, they get the dual "advantage" of cashing in on the fervent desperation of long-time fans to know what is happening to a shared world, while simultaneously appeasing those mythical legions of gamers who allegedly would buy into the FR and/or replace us if only WoTC would do them the favor of dumbing down half of it, and blowing up the rest.

-Er...Well, you don't have to actually pay the $39.99 to flip through the book before purchasing it, something I do every time I see a D&D book that looks somewhat interesting (and I thought everyone else did). At the most, it'll cost you $3.00 for coffee. They don't have chairs and coffee chains in most larger bookstores for no reason, you know.

What?! No croissant? Biscotti? You just can't have coffee by itself... :whatsthis

As I grumpily browse through the new FRCG, I want -something- sticky or gooey to "accidentally" get all over the book pages. :D

But... I want good coffee, and a good dessert! IMAGE(http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/confused/confused0060.gif)

That's at least $4 for a nice cappucino, and around $5-6 for a fresh croissant, biscotti, or mini creme brulee. IMAGE(http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/happy/happy0169.gif)

The whole FR forum basically screams at the designers no matter what they say, so why should they give you any more information when they know that you'll rip it all apart and throw more hate at them?

Sorry, man. It was a hectic week at work. I was pretty much just taking sneak peeks at things. And, with my cable out, I wasn't able to verify easily (i.e. waiting 15 minutes on wi-fi, with only a sheer hope I'd reach the page I needed) before posting.

But now, with my new Comcast cable connection, we all good, right? :D

Though we may scream different things, of course...

As to countdown articles and such... I thinkthe people in charge of the website are a different department than the people who write the articles. I wouldn't be surprised if there are several other beancounting departments in between too.
There may well be a difference in opinions on what should be released online first.

See, the person I was replying to did not seem to identify himself as one of the "irrational" people he was talking about.

People rarely think of themselves as part of the problem, it's almost always "those other people".
