Jun 12, 2008 0:05:01 Ok I'm currently reading Richard Bakers Swordmage. Gives a really great feel for the harsh life on the moonsea. Any other novels you could recommend?

Looking for novels that lead to the major events of Spellplague, The rise of the Nethrese, Cormyr since the arrival of the netherese, Any thing the zhentarim have been up to since cyric left the picture, how cyric leaves the picture, how shar got so powerful,and How the elves took back Myth Drannor.

Think thats a good place to start. Thanks in advance

Jun 12, 2008 0:20:47 Return of the Archwizards trilogy for how the Netherese enclave of Shade returned to Toril from the plane of shadow, and how surrounding nations and power groups (Evereska, Cormyr, Sembia, Waterdeep, Evermeet, the Phaerimm, the Harpers, Mystra's Chosen, the Seraph of Cyric, etc) reacted to their return (timeline 1371-1372 DR)

The Last Mythal trilogy for how the elves return to Myth Drannor (timeline 1374 DR)

The Twilight War trilogy for how the Shades plotted to take Sembia and make it part of their new Netherese Empire, and Shar's plot to place herself above the other deities with the shadowstorm (timeline 1375 DR)

Note that all of these events take place over 100 years before the death of Mystra and the spellplauge that followed. Very few novels will likely deal directly with that tumultuous period.

Morever, the major events of these novels are summarized in timeline format in The Grand History of the Realms and the Player's Guide to Faerûn, although part III of the Twilight War is not included as it had not yet been released, and the Player's Guide only covers the Return of the Archwizards.

Jun 12, 2008 9:17:31 There are some other novels and series that are directly related to the Spellplague or the 4E Realms:

--The Haunted Land trilogy: about upheaval in Thay, and the second novel, Undead, involves the death of Mystra and the resulting Spellplague.

--The Empyrean Odyssee trilogy: will most likely involve upheaval in the planes (that is, the Realms cosmology) due to the Spellplague.

--The Lady Penitent trilogy: involves upheaval in the drow pantheon. The Spellplague isn't involved at all, but the developments regarding the drow will be important for the 4E Realms.

--Stardeep: a stand alone novel that, again, doesn't directly involve the Spellplague, but has references to "Abeir" as a seperate place (a new development for the 4E Realms) and aboleth creatures that would like to invade the planet.
