A quote from the product description page for the upcoming "Forgotten Realms Player's Guidebook":

....brand-new character class never before seen in D&D: the swordmage!

-The Swordmage is a class that is new. It's based on an archetype that's not new (the Figher/Mage), but the Swordmage itself is.

The class is "new" it is still based off of not-so-new class combos and Prestige Classes...

It is just a bit of symantics but I agree somewhat with the OP, in that I really dislike the usage/abuse of the language when anyone unveils a not-so-new NEW idea or concept.

Relax, they just said Swordmage was a new class, not that it would single handedly redefine the D&D experience.

It is just a bit of semantics, but in times like these I reflect on 'fan' being short for 'fanatic'.

-The first couple of levels of the Swordmage have already been released. That Living Forgotten Realms document, with Drow, Genasi and Swordmagi.
