| #1RilsJun 11, 2009 14:02:15 | Simple question - if I need to Realmsify an adventure which includes a temple to Vecna, who would I substitute? (Vecna = evil, knowledge/secrets) Also, who's the current Realms incarnation of Avandra? (Avandra = travel, adventurers, "fortune favors the bold") |
| #2ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 11, 2009 14:09:31 | As for Vecna I think I'll go with Shar (darkness Secrets And Evilness). She's all about secrets. as for avandra, either Tymora (good luck) or Shaundakul (travelers explorers, coincidently enemy of Shar) |
| #3lord_karsusJun 11, 2009 16:08:40 | Vecna: Vecna, being an Evil Lich, Velsharoon would work as a very close substitute. Shar, however, is an Evil deity who's portfolios include secrets. Personally, knowing what I know about Vecna, I think Velsharoon would be a closer fit, despite the similarities with Shar's portfolios. Avandra: Either Tymora (Luck) or Shaundakul (Exploring) would work. |
| #4niirfaJun 11, 2009 20:08:10 | Officially, according to the conversion table for H2: Thunderspire Labyrinth, Avandra translates to Chauntea and Vecna translates to... Cyric. Think of that whatever you wish. Frankly, though, given the context I can see Avandra translating to Tymora and Vecna translating to Mask, Myrkul, or Velsharoon. However, for anything that involves him as an active force Cyric probably fits as well as anything else. No one really fits his M.O. in the 4e Realms. EDIT: On second thoughts, as others have suggested, Shar's not a bad fit. |
| #5lord_karsusJun 11, 2009 22:36:54 | -Given what I know about Avandra (limited to the OP's explanation of "Avandra = travel, adventurers, "fortune favors the bold"), linking that with Chauntea is...reaching. Very far. |
| #6StiggerJun 12, 2009 1:53:33 | So's resurrecting Netheril and Imaskar, but hey, that happened... |
| #7nightseerJun 12, 2009 3:32:08 | That took some real talent... ![]() :P |
| #8borrisJun 12, 2009 5:40:42 | That Thunderspire Labyrinth conversion table makes no sense! Rather, you should use the one given in the Living Forgottem Realms Character Creation Guide. Pelor = Amaunator Erathis = Gond Raven Queen = Kelemvor Ioun = Oghma Sehanine = Selûne Melora = Silvanus Kord = Tempus Avandra = Tymora Bahamut, Corellon, and Moradin don't change, obviously. They don't list Evil or Chaotic Evil deities (as LFR characters cannot worship them) but Shar would certainly be a good fit for Vecna . |
| #9lord_karsusJun 12, 2009 11:06:16 | So's resurrecting Netheril and Imaskar, but hey, that happened... -Both make more sense than making Chauntea the replacement for a deity of luck and adventuring. |
| #10StiggerJun 12, 2009 13:40:11 | Marginal... at best. |

| #12marius4Jun 12, 2009 22:01:06 | The H2: Thunderspire Labyrinth recommendations may have been intended for the context of that specific adventure series. Note that Shar had already taken the place of the series BBEG, Orcus, in the preceding adventure H1: Keep on the Shadowfell. (IIRC, she may have taken the place of Vecna as well!) Generally speaking, though, I agree with the suggested matching of Avandra to Tymora (with the caveat that she has more temples) and Vecna to Shar. I like Shaundakul too, but I would only use him if the "Avandra" in the campaign really emphasized travel as a spiritual priority or theme. (Plus Tymora's good alignment matches Avandra's, which I think gives her the edge.) ![]() |
