| #1keithpSep 19, 2009 10:48:41 | My players will make their way int to the Lair of Shadows (FRCG pp 28-31) shortly, perhaps next weekend. There are two things that have troubled me, and I wonder if any other DMs have addressed them. 1) If the players accidentally trigger the acid trap, then what to do they do to get by? Did anyone have any good ideas, or did they simply retreat and come back later? I'd like to consider some possible plot lines, should the players not be able to see their way past the trap. 2) Narrows has a "Cloak of Shadows" power. As written, this is simply a power. From the name, it appears to come from a magic item. Has anyone written up a "cloak of shadows" as an item? |

For example they might try using climbing pitons in the walls to create handholds or if they look to the ceiling have rafters be there that they can use to swing across. If their creative reward that, it'll make them feel good. I'd probably have Narrows ability be some sort of potion or powder that he can quick release, it lets you give a couple to your players if he gets taken down quick as a little bonus award without the worry of giving them a reusable cause blindness item at such a low level. |

| #4keithpSep 27, 2009 12:07:20 | Just to follow up: My players decided that some of them were going to try to join the gang, without too much subtlety. So, the two least stealthy characters went clanging ahead in their armor. The paladin of Tempus went crashing down into the acid, but was quickly rescued. Not getting a reaction from the gang, they decided to camp upstairs over night. They know that they were observed by Narrows the following morning -- he used the catacomb exit so that he could scout around -- but were not able to catch him. The party did consider swinging from the rafters, but decided against it. They have also considered neutralizing the acid with ashes! (One character rolled a 25 on a nature check for this one.) But, they haven't figured out how to get a sufficient amount yet. Depending on how other things go, I may have a large amount of ashes available from the blacksmith, with whom they are on good terms. Instead, the characters are trying to draw out Narrows or the Lady of the Shadows in other ways, and are searching for more clues. With the cooperation of some of the shop keepers, they are pretending now to be a rival gang also selling protection. Unfortunately, they tried to get Brosha Manx in on the deal, so the Lady of the Shadows knows all ... Unfortunately we're not going to be able to get together for the next several weeks. When we get back together, it will be time for the ball at the Manor House, where perhaps they will get more clues and resolve false leads. (They think that Lady Moonfire might be the Lady of the Shadows!) If they return to the lair, I plan to have them find some long wooden planks crossing the trap that will hold the lighter characters OK. |
