| #1lord_karsusMay 12, 2009 16:53:31 | -A new (not very new, but I didn't know about it until now) companion short story to Erik de Bie's Downshadow book was released and can be found HERE. |

| #4sfdragonMay 12, 2009 20:47:52 | yes it is. |
| #5lord_karsusMay 12, 2009 21:38:53 | -Well, it's a short story, so it's not long enough for me to do the usual schpiel, but overall, I liked it. Gedrin seemed an interesting, if not creepy, individual, and I liked the whole vibe that he gave off. I am a big proponent of interesting characters making the story, instead of an intended result, and Gedrin certainly seems a deep character. Drovesm, I didn't find him as interesting, in this small sample size, but betrayal is always something compelling. Kalen, he had very little screen time, but I didn't dislike him, so...The one thing I didn't like would be the villain, Kirenkirsalai. Another "shadow man", though not necessarily a Shade. |
| #6suin_bahhar_02May 13, 2009 10:38:37 | That venerable paladin is truely interesting and awesome. The way he sees Luskan and the events around him makes him seem a defeated man. Untill he let's his massive power show. That shadow half elf seems interesting to me, he is some sort of shadow soulknife? |
| #7erikscottdebie_dupMay 14, 2009 0:01:16 | yes it is. Then yay! Glad you liked it. ![]() @Lord Karsus: Glad you liked it too. Sorry about the shadow man--don't worry, he makes a very small cameo in Downshadow proper. And no, he isn't a shade and has nothing to do with the shades. (I don't *think*, anyway. We'll see.) @Suin: Well-guessed! I suppose we'll have to see. I'm glad people are liking old Gedrin as much as I do. ![]() Cheers |
| #8sfdragonMay 14, 2009 1:24:47 | remember him, he has nothing on the current shadowbane who is rated at : 1 chicken and two dragons.( the chick came in at all his not be straight with everyone) the former and late gedrin, who is already rated, the completely hawt and deadly Fox at twilight, who is rated at 4 dragons and prince whats his name yydar or something at two dragons. and as villians go, the warlock dude in depths of madness has 2 dragons and one chicken. all shadow man has is 1 dragon and two chickens. may demogorgon feast upon him. |
| #9sfdragonMay 14, 2009 1:38:53 | on a side note Eric, have you gotten a copy of the phb2 yet?? and if so, what do you think of the avenger class?? |
| #10erikscottdebie_dupMay 14, 2009 9:11:20 | on a side note Eric, have you gotten a copy of the phb2 yet?? and if so, what do you think of the avenger class?? I have indeed managed to come by a copy of the PHB2, and I rather like the avenger class. I think that it's a good fit for the current Shadowbane, perhaps actually a better fit than paladin (his class in 3.5 terms is rogue/paladin; in 4e, he might be an avenger, I think, or some combination of paladin and avenger). Regardless, it's probably better that I refer to him as a paladin throughout the book--people know what that is, but they might not read "avenger" and know that's a class unless they have the PHB2. What are your thoughts on it? Cheers |
| #11sfdragonMay 14, 2009 12:41:33 | decent class, I like it better than the invoker and warden. can compete more or less with the rogue combat wise. |
| #12pamelaMay 14, 2009 13:20:09 | Regardless, it's probably better that I refer to him as a paladin throughout the book--people know what that is, but they might not read "avenger" and know that's a class unless they have the PHB2. I think it's a good idea myself. It emphasises the fact that you can be a certain class mechanically while having a different title appropriate to the setting involved, or one more familiar to the audience as you've pointed out. |
| #13sfdragonMay 14, 2009 15:08:40 | I have indeed managed to come by a copy of the PHB2, and I rather like the avenger class. also you could of reffered to him as a holy warrior and just let the reader decide. Shadowbane paladin/ muticlass avenger does to that class but the lovely Fox at Twilight still makes the rogue class look hawt and deadly even without the rouge |
| #14erikscottdebie_dupMay 14, 2009 19:42:41 | also you could of reffered to him as a holy warrior and just let the reader decide. True, though "holy warrior" is unnecessarily cumbersome. I don't know if you were part of the old "roguish knight" discussion regarding Derst in Ghostwalker . . . I think the general consensus was that one should keep descriptors as simple as possible. ![]() but the lovely Fox at Twilight still makes the rogue class look hawt and deadly even without the rouge True that. ![]() I rather think the 4e rogue fits her *better* than the 3.5e rogue did. It's more a fast-moving, cagey, quick warrior, which is what Twilight is. My 3.5 rogues always had difficulty dishing out all that much damage compared to the rest of the party, and this better reflects the way Twilight, at least, should be. But that's a WHOLE other discussion. Cheers |
| #15casual-observerMay 19, 2009 11:36:24 | Hee, hee. Well, this explains a lot. I mistook this story as an excerpt from Downshadow. I'm about 3/4ths of the way through with the novel and kept wondering when I was going to get to this part-lol! I assumed it would be presented as a flashback. Now I see it's a companion story that gives a little more insight on the origin of Kalen. Still, darn fine stories- both of them. :D |
