#1 forse Jun 28, 2008 7:30:54	I'm interested in which kinds of different hairstyles are existent in the realms. In particular, I'd like to know if dreadlocks are worn anywhere? Of course, it wouldn't be called 'dreadlocks' in Faerun. I could see it being used by some religious men and women, as in our world, as well as by common men and women as a sort of fashion.

Dreads could occur naturally over time when tangly hair isn't untangled ever so often, so barbaric tribes would have frequent occurances of that hair style. I don't think it would become fashionable under the nobility as it has that barbaric image. It might be quite popular under adventureres though, as it reduces the time spent on morningrituals such as combing. Although places such as waterdeep might have some periods where it could get fashionable. But most nobles wouldn't want to make the image they resemble filthy adventureres or barbarians...

I agree that nobles in most cultures wouldn't wear dreads. But people of middle or lower class could. When I read about Halflings and their complex braids, dreads came to mind. Dreads aren't technically a type of braid, but still. I think dreads would fit well on halflings or half-elves, both have a 'homeless' streak. By homeless I don't mean that they are bums or beggars, but homeless in the sense that they are travelling races, not quite at home in a very organized culture.
