If my memory serves me correctly, the result of Halaster's demise was that his soul/conscoisness was disjoined and scattered across Faerun. Is there any further mention anywhere of him such as what the spellplague did to these scatterings, etc. Any hypothesies? For instance, will he be a future souce of power for warlocks? Will all the wiped out powers be used to reintroduce vestiges in 4th edition fr?
Sorry if I lumped too many ideas into one thread.

Perhaps they will come up with pacts allowing warlocks to draw power from primordials. Then the sleeping primordials can carry on their war with the gods via proxy: warlocks vs. clerics. Until finally, a sleeping primordial awakens and all hell breaks loose.

Well, an entity doesn't have to be complete to become a vestige. Having Hallaster's vestige being a tattered shred of his greater consciousness has merit.

If Halaster is fragmented and spread out anywhere, it is within Undermountain itself. The wild magic that runs through it since his death gives some backing to this.

And a nice coincidence that Undermountain is like one big ass puzzle.

There is supposed to be a primal power source in PH2 (Druid and Barbarians), IIRC. So there may be a way to do what you are saying.

I am surprised that with the number of clones and duplicates of himself that he made, that he didn't survive the spellplague, especially if he knew it was coming. If I were in that circumstance I would have put a stasis clone on a completely different world (say Greyhawk) in order to ensure my survival, and we know Halaster had access to other worlds, given the number of gates he created.

-If I'm not mistaken, it was in his preparations for the coming Spellplague that is what caused his soul to shatter. He could have, in theory, been working on just this when he messed up his preparations, and he had his soul shattered. The text doesn't go into the specifics.

The issue I would have with the "soul shattering" is how big is a soul? How big is a soul fragment? Manshoon was able to inhabit several clones at once, so it does not necessarily follow that a whole single soul would be necessary to animate a clone. And if Halaster's soul fragmented, than any of those fragments should be able to power a clone. So I have to believe that either Halaster chose to accept his death, or he is alive and just not hanging around his old digs.

-Being metaphysical entities, they have no size.

-The difference between the two is that Manshoon's soul did not "shatter" before his death, whereas Halaster's did. Being as that, as far as we know, Manshoon had clones, whereas Halaster did not, this is important, and is the reason why Halaster's clones, if any exist, did not activate.

Even without clones, he was fond of illusionary doubles. And, much like he, you never knew how these "others" would approach you.

Speaks to me of his mind. And, as is the state of the mind, the soul shall follow. Fragmented. Conflicted. Willful.

-Again, though, he was "cured" of the insanity that gripped him for a while. It was either in Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters, or Elminster in Hell. Might have even been both: Cured of some of his madness in the latter, and cured of all of it in the latter. I'd have to go back and reread the endings, to be fully sure.

I think it was just expedient to write him out of the setting so that Undermountain could be made more generic. That being said, the shattered soul excuse that kept him from reforming was never explained very well in the module (as the "impending disaster" that he was trying to prevent). I'll be including him (in a new 4E format) as a more sane (and therefore more dangerous) version of himself. Undermountain is still home for Halaster (on occassion) but he spends most of his time off world now (maybe operating an amusement park (with traps) in Sigil.

Tomorrow he's having afternoon tea with Elminster so that they can decide what to do with that silly Szass Tam.

I believe that 'fallen' thing was mentioned in Silverfall also. How Silverfall and Elminster in Hell relate chronologically, I have no idea. Speaking of Silverfall, I think I read one of the 7 sisters is alive in the Dales but I can't remember which or where I read it.
