| #1taziraiAug 14, 2008 17:23:57 | recently We've just finished a campaign in Halruaa. I've also started writing some fan fiction about My Halruaan Diviner/Eye of Savras, Sybil. The campaign ended with the Church of Savras coming back to prominence and becoming a Major Southern god again. I understand that in 4E he gets Blasted to tar, Why we dont know yet. but our DM is considering running another Halruaan campaign, That will take us onto the planes later. The Dilemma is to keep the same timeline with no changes to 4E or to finish the next one and come back to a Blasted out campaign world. Some of Us personally dont care much for 4E. Some like me like "SOME" of the coming changes. So in our world it would be silly for The Eyes of Savras to determine the Cause of the Great Void.. Shar. Defeat it, then come back and it happens anyway. One plan is to Impress Savras again, and have Shar or Cyric assume his identity, yet we'll recieve our powers from the Real One. Then Restore Halruaa and tashalar once again. in the course of this Savras will begin to take on Aspects of his enemies. This campaign goal is to free him and have another PC take his place as the God of Divinations... That's something I ran by the DM. How do you plan to run your "Halruaa" If at all. |
| #2Harn_WinterfellAug 14, 2008 17:29:28 | I'm going to have to wait and see what if any of it remains, and to read about the Five Companies. Having a few players that tend to be rather prone to vengeance, they may seek the destruction of the powers that brought about the destruction of the homeland. |
| #3lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 17:35:02 | -I'll have this thread moved to the Running the Realms section. |
| #4markustay63Aug 14, 2008 17:39:08 | Why we dont know yet. Yes we do. Because the designers couldn't figure out anything creative to do with it. ![]() |
| #5naexAug 14, 2008 18:07:30 | I'm thinking lots of misfiring spell effects and portals. Strange creatures, some very powerful appearing and filtering out through the realms. The survivors have taken refuge in Nimbral (if it is still there) who sent aid to their ancient motherland, as well as sending teams to recover any artifacts that could be found. Adventurer's digging through rubble to glean magic secrets from this shattered land. |
| #6merrikcaleAug 14, 2008 18:10:41 | forgive me, I don't have the FRCS but isn't halruaa completely gone? |
| #7naexAug 14, 2008 18:11:50 | forgive me, I don't have the FRCS but isn't halruaa completely gone? If it blew up, then something must remain, unless it was all just swept into a void... |
| #8merrikcaleAug 14, 2008 18:12:31 | If it blew up, then something must remain, unless it was all just swept into a void... well, Lurien is now a bay I believe |
| #9naexAug 14, 2008 18:14:39 | well, Lurien is now a bay I believe Then the remains are probably underwater, which still leaves a few plot devices using it. Maybe a few of the motes floating throughout the realms now are not from Abeir, but are pieces of Halruaa. |

(If we decide to Blow it up)The Pc's would have to help charter safe passage to Nimbral or vice versa. Then the remains are probably underwater, which still leaves a few plot devices using it. Maybe a few of the motes floating throughout the realms now are not from Abeir, but are pieces of Halruaa. Another good idea like above would be to Unite the new "Island Nation" Of New Halruaa... The Pc's would have to engage in not only exploration, recovery, But also diplomacy, negotiation, and nation building.:D The Halruaa campaign we ran had a total of 2 mages, A Heretic Mage/Sorcerer, A Pet Beholder kin, and a Gish. So it was primarily a Magic based, less dungeon crawling adventure. I like the ideas so far. |
| #1218DELTAAug 14, 2008 22:37:29 | -You dont always have to use the 4E changes. Could always just bring it into the Future. It is your game. :D 18DELTA ![]() |
| #13lord_karsusAug 15, 2008 23:08:51 | well, Lurien is now a bay I believe -Right. The 'Bay of Lurien'. To make the Halflings river folk. |
| #14merrikcaleAug 15, 2008 23:27:42 | -Right. The 'Bay of Lurien'. To make the Halflings river folk. I guess but that would seem more like ocean folk, but hey they got to forcefeed us core ideas somehow |
| #15lord_karsusAug 16, 2008 12:31:45 | I guess but that would seem more like ocean folk, but hey they got to forcefeed us core ideas somehow -Well, we don't know how deep the bay is, but...Yeah. |
| #16markustay63Aug 16, 2008 12:52:29 | I thought it was going to become a big old marsh... but that would have made too much sense. ![]() I wish I could see the FRCG Map - I may have to buy the book just for that (otherwise, I have everything I need between all these threads and those excerpts). What I'm picturing - and the way I plan on presenting it on MY 4e maps - is of a chain of islands. Some will be dead magic, some wild magic, some filled with Spellplague, and others portals to other worlds, and still others with crusty old ruins (some of which may have come from other worlds). A couple of islands will be large, a bunch medium, and hundreds of tiny islets - some barely more then rocks jutting up from the bottom. Also, the entire region will be a meteorological nightmare - Hot, sticky weather being replaced by gusts of mind-numbing (and water-freezing) cold, insane storms coming out of nowhere (bringing their own chaotic effects with them), rains of blood, fogs of shadow, etc, etc... In other words, Hell on Earth (or Toril, in this case). ![]() |
| #17lord_karsusAug 16, 2008 13:03:47 | I wish I could see the FRCG Map -Agreed. |
| #18markustay63Aug 16, 2008 19:57:27 | You know... we may just cry. ![]() But either way, I made some promises, so I'll do what I can. |
| #19merrikcaleAug 16, 2008 21:10:35 | I thought it was going to become a big old marsh... but that would have made too much sense. I believe Halruaa is indeed a big swamp |
| #20markustay63Aug 16, 2008 21:26:06 | So the swamp-Halflings live in the Bay, and the Mercenary Wizards live in the swamp - gotcha. ;) |
| #21hippokreneAug 16, 2008 21:37:26 | How do you plan to run your "Halruaa" If at all. As ruins. |
| #22lord_karsusAug 16, 2008 22:45:59 | You know... we may just cry. -I'm not crying over spilled milk. I'll be cranky and aggravated, but I'm certainly not crying over it. Especially since I have my projects, and am in a campaign with a good DM and even better players. |
| #23koukAug 17, 2008 4:32:14 | I sort of feel like Halruaa makes more sense to be a collapsed nation rather than "Whoops it blewed up, all gone." Failure of magic in that society would cause destruction of cities even without random explosions because most cities had magically-supported architecture. Their defenses were almost entirely magic-based, so monsters could then overrun the (helpless) population. This would put it as a "points of light" sort of deal, or a monster-ridden area that refugees want to reclaim now that they've figured out how to fight using magic again. Fueled by stories of their homeland of 100 years ago, and a bit jealous about the Netherese empire. Of course, the Netherese may want to colonize the ruins as well, because Halruaans were originally descendants of Netheril. Then you can have nice sort of "Evil Empire" vs. "Freedom Fighters" sort of thing. |
| #24lord_karsusAug 17, 2008 12:14:58 | I sort of feel like Halruaa makes more sense to be a collapsed nation rather than "Whoops it blewed up, all gone." -The Spellplague was actually supposed to "skip over" places that were magic-rich (Myth Drannor, Waterdeep, Shade, Calimport, Silverymoon, etc.), so... |

| #31Mr_MiscellanyAug 27, 2008 0:50:37 | Getting back on topic... For my 4E FR game I don’t have any specific plans regarding Halruaa. Our game is set in Cormyr and won’t be leaving that area anytime soon. I think if I did move play to Halruaa, I would run it as written in the FR Campaign Guide. My players aren’t heavy into the lore of the place, we only visited it once in our 3.5 FR game) and I think would enjoy the change of scenery. Halarahh is now a ruin not unlike Myth Drannor, but with a decidedly more savage periphery. There’s all kinds of lizardfolk and sarrukh activity in Halruaa, Rethild, Ilimar and so on. The 500-foot-tall stone heads at Chasolne sound pretty cool to. I’d like to build in the description of that place and flesh out the tunnels beyond them where sarrukh dwell and perform experiments on captured sailors and lizardfolk, and send agents via active portals to Ilimar and Okoth. |

Sounds interesting. and Considering the apocalyptic changes to Toril. it may fit. I intend to use it as a bunch of small island chains, not completely destroyed. We'll have to put Halruaa back together again. Kinda like humpty dumpty. |
| #33conanbSep 02, 2008 13:07:12 | Halruaa is one of my favorite places in the realms and I was sad to see it blown up in the campaign guide. I am happy to see that a few skyships escaped to form the island of sky pirates or whatever they are. I've decided to have in my game that the capitol of Halruaa has escaped the blast, but has been shunted away to it's own pocket dimension. The explosion of magical force in Halruaa caused a magical implosion around the city proper ripping it free from Faerun and pushing it into it's own pocket realm. Currently it haunts the dreams of mages and other magically gifted people who sleep to close to the plaguelands. It's a call from the mages within for aid. The key to this is a simple gem within the crater of where the main city was. This gem though is the physical manifestation of that plane intruding on Faerun. It wil take powerful magic to pull the city back, not to mention an area able to hold it as the city will takeup the same space it did before destroying everything in it's path. I figure I'll work it into my game with the group hired by a mage who has an inkling of what has happened, but plans to use the gem as a weapon. Releasing Halruaa not as an act of kidness but using it like a bomb. The players in my game will of course turn it over for money before they ask questions (my group is very mercenary). It will allow me to keep some part of Halruaa alive and give the players a chance to decide where it should go in the realms since they'll plant the city where they think it would be best. Of course they could mess me up and hand the gem over to Netheril or something else since they are the definition of unaligned. |
