| #1sabinoAug 11, 2009 16:25:17 | I am having trouble pinpointing certain areas in the realms and was wondering if i can get a hand The areas are The Leaves of One Night and Ordunil used by Eryril Hraven to summon the Shadowstorm as is indicated in the grand history? |
| #2LordManshoonAug 11, 2009 17:10:26 | The Leaves of One Night is not an area, it's a tome sacred to the goddess Shar. Ordulin is the former capital of Sembia, a nation in north-central Faerun, south of the Dalelands, east of Cormyr, along the Sea of Fallen Stars. Ordulin is found in the Northeast-Central part of Sembia. |
| #3suin_bahhar_02Aug 11, 2009 18:23:24 | I thought the Leaves of One Night are a series of scrolls, and are only a single tome in 1375 DR and onwards as the Shadowstorm (featured in the Erevis Cale trilogy) has already been unleashed. |
| #4LordManshoonAug 11, 2009 18:33:49 | I thought the Leaves of One Night are a series of scrolls, and are only a single tome in 1375 DR and onwards as the Shadowstorm (featured in the Erevis Cale trilogy) has already been unleashed. Well, they're a series of slates upon which are written holy words/doctrine/prayers of/to Shar, which were combined to serve as a holy text. Their first appearance (to my knowledge) was in Mistress of the Night, in which they're described in the way I mentioned. It's not a "standard" tome, but it's not really scrolls. |
| #5sabinoAug 11, 2009 19:59:04 | I see so they used the leaves of one night ritual to crate the shadowstorm in Ordunil. Now this might be a little dumb to ask but how is this involved in the spellplague? I ask because i want to introduce this in a future game (without actually changing to 4.0 thank you very much WotC) and find it difficult to sort out all the lore. I know it occurred when both shar and cyric killed mystra and the laps in control of the weave caused the plague to erupt all across the realms, i know what happens after that but how did they kill her is what i want to know. |
| #6LordManshoonAug 11, 2009 20:24:40 | I see so they used the leaves of one night ritual to crate the shadowstorm in Ordunil. The Shadowstorm is in no way related to the Spellplague. The Shadowstorm was unleashed in the hopes of obliterating Toril, which is Shar's ultimate goal. The Spellplague was the result of Shar's machinations against her second greatest foe, Mystra. Herein lies the major difference: Shar planned and was in control of the Shadowstorm. She had no idea that Mystra's death would have such universe-shaking consequences (namely the Spellplague). There's not much to Mystra's demise: Shar and Cyric infiltrated Dweomerheart (somehow), Shar made her presence known to Mystra and Azuth, and while those two were distracted, Cyric managed to sneak up and slay Mystra, which then brought about the Spellplague. If you're specifically after the method of Mystra's murder, there isn't one. One would imagine Cyric would have just impaled or decapitated her with Razor's Edge (his sword), but this hasn't been confirmed. A vision by one of the characters in The Fractured Sky has Cyric bop Mystra on the head with Azuth's staff, but it's been argued (by the author as well) that this portrayal of events is just supposed to be symbolic, not literal. One might say that Mystra's death is the result of the Shadowstorm's failure, but this isn't really true. The Shadowstorm still technically exists, but in a vastly reduced size. It's still eating away at the fabric of the planet, but very slowly. Oddly enough, Shar could accelerate the process if she wanted to, but chooses not to. If you're interested, the novels Shadowstorm, Shadowrealm, The Fractured Sky, and The Crystal Mountain all deal with the above-mentioned information. However, if you aren't a fan of the novels, I suggest you save your money. I certainly wouldn't advise you to spend money on lore you can just as easily obtain here. |
| #7nightseerAug 12, 2009 1:41:24 | You sure do know alot about Sharran Lore Lord Manshoon.![]() On-topic, in the FRCG it says that The Shades are trying to recreate the Shadow weave in the area around Ordulin.![]() |
| #8LordManshoonAug 12, 2009 1:45:54 | You sure do know alot about Sharran Lore Lord Manshoon. Not just her lore, but also her secrets.:P On-topic, in the FRCG it says that The Shades I can't wait for this to inevitably end up as a RSE. "Return of the Shadow Weave" by Troy Denning. Book One: The Dimming Book Two: The Darkening Book Three: The Blackening Followed up by the anthology: Realms of Are You F_____g Serious? |
| #9ody_saraph_of_karsusAug 12, 2009 13:29:09 | That's lame, Every body knows that the shadow weave is a FAKE CRAPPY WEAVE. .... little better than a parasite really.... You know I just notice something.... If The ***** Shar represent Loss and endings and all that emo sh*t, WHAT THE IS SHE DOING CREATINGFAKE CRAPPY WEAVE?!?!?!?![]() |
| #10LordManshoonAug 12, 2009 15:30:58 | In all fairness, I attribute Shar's hypocrisy more to the mixed desires of the designers, rather than an inability to understand her. For instance, here's a little mental exercise to help people dislike Shar: Shar is a being of cold, darkness, and bitter despair. She despises ALL things which represent life, warmth, and joy. Sex represents all three of Shar's most hated concepts. There's no reason she would allow her clergy to have sex, unless they were seducing a victim to ruin in their Lady's name. Therefore, Sharrans shouldn't have sex, because to do so is to blaspheme against Shar and reject her doctrine. There. As if people didn't dislike her enough, now she forbids fornication.:P |
| #11ody_saraph_of_karsusAug 12, 2009 15:51:22 | LM, Shar's clerics are Emo. They aren't forbiden to get laid, They are unable to :P |

With Tamlin the Ignorant in control, the family must have died out save for him. | #27gurmaxAug 18, 2009 7:09:21 | To get back to topic. You probably can't find Ordulin on newer maps as it no longer exists. As it was writen in The Twilight War Trilogy as Shar brought Shadowstorm to Sembia, Kesson Rel as he freed himself from his trap in Shadowrealm came to material plane directly in Ordulin and killed every living soul there and made them into shades. City itself was pretty much leveled to the ground as Paul S. Kemp wrote in the trilogy (mostly cause Kesson Rel's tower arose in the middle of the city and demolished everything around it). New capitol of Sembia is Selgaunt, why that is, well read the trilogy :P ![]() |
| #28suin_bahhar_02Aug 28, 2009 12:49:00 | I'm not totally poitive on the Shadowstorm being able to get back into full force though... Kesson Rel was controlling it and he's dead for sure. From what passage did you deduce that Shar can kick it back into gear, my gimpmasked friend (or anyone else)? |
| #29evil_warlockSep 02, 2009 6:01:38 | If I remember correctly (and if not please correct me, it's been 6 months since I read the book) it is implied in the book, when Rivalen Tanthul traveled to the center of it, that a chosen o Shar would be able to restart the Shadowstorm. Also if you're searching for Ordulin it's in the FRCG, it's Ordulin Maelstorm on p177, in the text and on the map. |
| #30LordManshoonSep 02, 2009 10:18:54 |
EW has the right of it. At the end of Shadowrealm, when Rivalen is walking through the ruins of Ordulin, he reflects on how his enemies have accomplished nothing, for the Shadowstorm survived. It would only take the will of Shar to truly bring it back into full swing, but she has decided not to, content to let the minute Shadowstorm eat away at the fabric of reality slowly. Kesson, it seems, wasn't actually controlling it, so much as he was the focus for it. More like channeling the manifest will of Shar, a bit like Liriel did with Lolth's power in Tangled Webs. It really does seem to take away from the accomplishments of Erevis and company, but that's how it's been set up. EDIT: Note, I'm not saying it would necessarily be a "snap of the fingers" type deal. It might even be a gradual strengthening process. She might have to work her magic to get it back on track. Or she might need a new catalyst now that Kesson's gone. Enter Rivalen (or to twist a few heads, Vasen Cale). But Rivalen's musings at the end indicate the Shadowstorm isn't a lost cause, and that Shar's grand scheme hasn't really faltered. |
