So in my game a paladin of Tempus and his Goliath barbarian acolyte came upon a map that showed the way to a hidden temple to Tempus which they deiced to pursue.

I don't really run FR games and am not familiar with the nuance of some of the gods, but my question is...

How would Battleguards or Priests of Tempus test someone on the tenants or commandments of their faith to ward an ancient holy site? How would they trap it against things that wouldn't be familiar with thier faith? Would it be more Cerebral or Visceral kinds of traps/tests?

Well Tempus favors valor, strength, strategy, and courage. So I'd make your tests based of these principals.

A test of Strength might be a hard 1-on-1 fight with some sort of animated creature that you have to go toe to toe with.

A test of Strategy might be a sneakier opponent that you have to decide on their specific weakness and exploit it use some sort of strategy instead of just straight brute strength. I'd try to incorporate the area/terrain with this sort of test. Or, you could have a HUGE golem-style creature that seems impervious to damage and you have to use strategy and guile to take him down (find it's achille's heel).

A test of courge could be as simple as crossing a wall of flame. It feels exactly like a searing wall of fiery death that could probably bubble your skin if you touch it but in all truth, it's an illusion to dissuade the less courageous.

Just some examples for you.
