| #1mltrymanJun 01, 2009 23:24:33 | hello all .. i was looking through some of the FR boards and came across a few artifacts but can't find the stats on them and was hoping you all could help. | #2cheyneJun 02, 2009 4:31:56 | Officially, there is no 3rd edition stats for any of those, even less 4th stats. I think you can find them in the 2nd edition book the fall of Myth Drannor. Personally, I use those stats for the Highfire crown : Highfire Crown (Major Artifact) Sighted only briefly after the establishment of the mythal over Elven Court, the Highfire Crown was a mysterious portent for the surviving elves after the Fall of Myth Drannor. As the mythal rose and bloomed throughout the newly restored holy city of Elven Court, the 13 High Mages unexpectedly erupted into pillars of fire that lanced toward the central Grand Caster. When the conflagration subsided, all that remained of them were 13 selu’kiira, each surrounded by silver and amber flames and moving in graceful, controlled orbits that sketched out the design of a crown of seven points in trailing licks of arcane flame. The soon-to-be-legendary Highfire Crown hovered at the peak of the new mythal for the first night of its life, then merged with the next day’s dawn, like Eltargrim’s Passing. The Highfire Crown effectively contains 13 special selu’kiira, or High Lore Gems which contain the essences of the 13 High Mages. As they were absorbed into their own lore gems, their full knowledge and sentience remains. However, without a conduit person (or persons) to walk out and perform the rituals, the collective High Mages are little more than a magical phenomenon. In terms of power, anyone who can don this crown would immediately become able to cast any High Magic rituals alone. The Crown acts as one to thirteen supplemental casters, creating flaming doppelgangers of their original forms to aid the physical central caster. Someone who decides to use the crown needs to spend two weeks to attune to it. The Crown enhance the user’s stats as follow: +10 Int, +6 Cha and Wis. The bearer also gain a +6 bonus on Will saves. Due to the knowledge present in the selu’kiiras, the bearer also gains the following bonus on skill checks: +30 Spellcraft, +20 knowledge (arcana), +10 knowledge (history), +5 knowledge (nature) and +5 knowledge (planes). The Highfire Crown also contains the knowledge of every Selu’Taar ritual. A character attuned to the crown and possessing at least one level in the Selu’Taar prestige class can accomplish every ritual of Complement or Myriad alone (he still needs to do a spellcraft check against the DC of the spell and to fill any other condition to cast the spell). The crown also contains a bunch of nonepic spells and every Selu’Taar-only spells. Otherwise, the crown work as a Tel’Kiira, except it can contain up to 1000 pages of spell and the whole memory of every Selu’Taar who created it. Strong varied; CL 30th; Weight 1lb.; Reference: Book of Artifacts, Fall of Myth Drannor (2nd Ed), DMG 3.5. |
| #3lord_karsusJun 02, 2009 11:10:56 | -This thread belongs in the Running the Realms section. It'll be moved. |
| #4lord_karsusJun 02, 2009 11:11:48 | -While it isn't fully complete, the Items section of Elves of Faerûn has the updated 3e stats for various Elven items and artifacts. Off the top of my head, I know that the Arcstaff of Khovaerm has been written up. |
| #5mltrymanJun 02, 2009 11:34:35 | All i can say is wow!!! Talk about some serious "oomph!". If the crown is indeed that much of an artifact then i can only imagine the others. Are they all detailed in said Book of Artifact, Fall of Myth Drannor? Since they will need conversion i would be stoked if you could help convert them over to 3.0 / 3.5 like you did for the crown. If you're not quite comfy posting the rest then i can provide you with an email. |

| #7sfdragonJun 03, 2009 4:02:46 | dragons of faerun: diamond scepter of Chomylla your staff may of become a scepter in 3.5 |
| #8old_sageJun 06, 2009 10:00:02 | The reference in Cormanthyr is largely the only official piece on the Arcstaff of Khavoerm in the Realmslore. |
| #9mltrymanJun 11, 2009 13:44:16 | Ok .. with all the replies and whatnot i've tracked down stats as follows: Lord's Staff ----------------------> Still Need Stats Arcstaff of Khovaerm--------------> Found Stats (not to shabby) Diamond Staff of Chomylla --------> Found Stats (meh, its ok) Highfire Crown--------------------> Found Stats (freaking awesome!) |
| #10zsychJun 17, 2009 6:49:05 | I would expect the Highfire Crown to be usable only by good, and probably only by elves, without a fight. Only Archwizards should be able to beat down the wills of high mages who have different desires from their own. |
| #11quale1Jun 17, 2009 8:16:50 | Schend's words about the Highfire Crown, seeing there's some confusion about itThe Highfire Crown's reference as The Holy Grail was not a mention of its power level, but more how the elven race sees it--It's the "Holy Grail" of things for which to quest. It's the ultimate prize/elven treasure that should be sought. It's a reminder of what elves are capable of at their best. It's not because it brings its bearer untold amounts of power (though it does, that...). |
| #12old_sageJun 17, 2009 9:45:14 | More from Steven Schend:-Another old thread to touch on for clarification.... And a little from Ed of the Greenwood too:- re. the Highfire Crown. Sigh, this is a “Can’t say much due to NDAs” matter, but the short-term effect of its finding on the Realms, these days, would depend on how widely the finder advertised his or her possession of it. If word spread among mages, the usual grasping sorts (Red Wizards, Zhents, etc.) would try to arrive and forcibly seize it -- and so would a large number of elves, seeking to remove it from non-elven hands at all costs. If the finder was an elf, now... nope, straying into NDA territory again. :} |
| #13zsychJun 18, 2009 21:20:15 | I dislike these NDA comments, since interesting things are rarely ever happening in the works of WotC. When stuff is eventually revealed(if the topic is ever mentioned at all), there's not that much of any real worth that it would matter if someone spoke on the issue earlier. As for the Highfire Crown, I would be really surprised if a non-elf would ever get chosen. Also... I think it would actually make for an interesting story, to have these old mages possess someone in modern day FR. I wonder how well they would've adapted to the new magic of the world, considering they probably can't work much magic on their own while in the crown... I would wonder at their sanity also, having spent thousands of years stuck with each other, and without a body. They should either be developing more power over time and more ability for magic without any kind of tools, or just losing everything. |

When stuff is eventually revealed(if the topic is ever mentioned at all), there's not that much of any real worth that it would matter if someone spoke on the issue earlier. SNIP I don't know that I agree with your statement here: We've seen precious little of 'revealed NDA' lore, so I'm not prepared to say that it's not worth seeing, in the main. My beef with these NDA's is that given the 100 year timejump, I can't see why ANY of them are still in place. Or rather I CAN see why it is that they're in place, and the reasoning is that it might encourage people to enjoy the Realms prior to the Spellplague. All of which is beside the point. These authors and designers signed NDAs. They have no recourse but to continue to suppress information that fans would love to have. The decision is (sadly) not theirs to make. We can only hope that WotC will have an attack of common sense and eventually publish a 'Secrets of the Realms' hardback, letting out all the NDA'd lore that will now NEVER be acted on by anyone. If such a book were published, those folks who love the old Realms, and those who loved old Realmslore, along with the people who are playing 4E who want more depth to the current setting would ALL buy it. Not to mention that it would give us answers to questions like that posted by the OP. |
