please understand my current and total displeasure to this rather drastic and unessecary decapitation of the Forgotten Realms by WOTC.

(begin rant)
Who decided that this new direction was nessecary and needed? Ive saw some time back (dont remember and didnt keep a downloaded copy) of some one saying that the Realms before 4E was weighed down and had too much baggage. IT'S CALLED HISTORY. its what all of us gamers who played the game since 1970 something (i started 1989) have learned about the realms and makes it interesting to play. I dont know about Abeir other than the World was called Abeir-Tobril. I love the realms, love its flavor, history and former storyline. i learned 2nd ed rules and was not happy with 3.0 or 3.5, had a hard time converting to the new systems. Now 4E is happened because some test group didnt like the "baggage" of Forgotten Realms?????? IF and i mean IF i ever buy another WoTC product it will be for adapting 4E to the old realms. I Will Never and i mean NEVER use this incarnation of the realms.
(End Rant)

im sorry for the harshness of my words but i am very very angry with this decsision to destroy the realms and rebuild it in the manner it was done in.

yes i know characters die, empires fall, time moves on but im sorry AO would have never allowed Mystra to die off and not replace her. not the way the old writers made him out.

-This belongs in the Forgotten Realms General section. It'll be moved. If words get minced too much, it'll also be closed; be aware.

In your opinion, which is fine, BTW.

(begin rant)

Who the ***K decided that this new direction was nessecary and needed?

The majority of gamers that had issues with FR.

Ive saw some time back (dont remember and didnt keep a downloaded copy) of some one saying that the Realms before 4E was weighed down and had too much baggage. IT'S CALLED HISTORY.

This was, also, subjective opinion at the time. But, it had enough people feeling this way that WotC took it to heart and decided to do something about it.

its what all of us gamers who played the game since 1970 something (i started 1989) have learned about the realms and makes it interesting to play.

lol, it's what you think, not 'all of us gamers who played the game since 1970 something'.

You shouldn't presume to speak for everyone.

I dont know about Abeir other than the World was called Abeir-Tobril.

Okay...

I love the realms, love its flavor, history and former storyline.

Luckly for you, it still has all that...

i learned 2nd ed rules and was not happy with 3.0 or 3.5, had a hard time converting to the new systems. Now 4E is happened because some test group didnt like the "baggage" of Forgotten Realms??????

No, it wasn't some test group. Do you honestly believe they are so fickle? lol.

IF and i mean IF i ever buy another WoTC product it will be for adapting 4E to the old realms. I Will Never and i mean NEVER use this incarnation of the realms.

Umm... good for you? It's how this thing works, show them support with your wallet (or lack there of).

(End Rant)

Thank goodness.

im sorry for the harshness of my words but i am very very angry with this decsision to destroy the realms and rebuild it in the manner it was done in.

Well, WotC can't please everyone. So they do what they can to please the majority. They are trying to make money.

yes i know characters die, empires fall, time moves on but im sorry AO would have never allowed Mystra to die off and not replace her. not the way the old writers made him out.

lol, maybe it was his plan all along? Or, maybe, just maybe he decided that the time has come for change?

Or it could be that it is a fictional world where anything could happen.

Yeah yeah yeah... the New realms suck - they are the 'Misbegotten Realms', the 4gotten Realm$, the "Shattered Realms", etc, etc, etc.... ad neuseam.

We've heard it all before, and most of the folks that hated the new material have left already (thats why the forums have slowed to a crawl). There are a couple of us left, but I feel like a hanger-on, and its only a matter of time before the last of us seek greener pastures.

It was a great ride - enjoy your memories of it and move-on; B!$%ing about it isn't going to bring it back, or make any of us feel any better.

It is what it is.

Bit of a delayed reaction there...

Though I'd advise avoiding the whole masking thing, it tends to upset the ORCs a bit.

It makes me feel better.

Carry on.

Greener pastures, aye. Though a bit of the Realms follows me to each of the new places I visit.

My response to the OP is 'WTF-ever', so perhaps it's that.

This is the first incarnation of the Realms I've actually found interesting, playable, and not ridiculously confusing and overwritten.

Hmmmm... Then I guess that you've never purchased or read any of the previous editions material. I know that I find the new Realms un-interesting, un-playable and ridiculously confusing and overwritten (by people that have their own agendas), so I don't buy any of it or read any of it.

I've tried to read it. It wasn't interesting.

You're so awesome...

But no...I don't want these people in my Eberron. I would sooner see it torn to astral dust by the Rakshasas, Daelkyr, and Quori than let FR pollute it with their vile, bloated, bland, repetitive, deus ex machina garbage.

That being said, I rather like the new FR. It's not cluttered with all that useless, cliche, plagiarized nonsense anymore.

But, of course...that's all IMHO.

And beautifully phrased it was too, in the least offensive and best possible terms to facilitate further forum discussion.

As for this thread, well, it was all said and done about a year ago. It is pretty much only flamebait now and let's face it, whether you are pro-4E but pro-4EFR or pro-4E and anti-4EFR or anti-4E but pro-4EFR or even anti-4E and anti-4EFR then what does stating it now do? Even accepting the changes were made based on a "squeakiest wheel" basis (I think that enough designers have said as much in enough interviews for this one to be taken as read) there is little to no chance that speaking out now will make any difference whatsoever.

-Indeed, and as such...Let it be known that both the topic of a thread AND/OR the responses of those who post in them cause threads to be closed.

It seems that a lot of D&D or FR fans are or were "offline" fans - they buy and read the books, not even frequently, and that's the extent of it. "Online" fans do the same, but check out the websites and forums too.

Then the offline fans discover the changes and are immediately shocked and dismayed, just as the online fans were a year or more back. Confused or angry, they go online.

Hence all these "4e FR WTF?" threads from first-time posters.

It'll go on for quite a while yet.

I love the old Realms, I love the new Realms. Both have merit, both have issues. I agree with comments on the old edition, I agree with comments on the new edition. I dislike the inability of many to meet each other half way, and don't have time for the extremists of both groups. Many of the "opinions" of problems, or superior points, are either flawed, or completely inaccurate.

At the end of the day though, I go to sleep, I don't care if any of you ever play in the Realms again. I play for the love of playing. If I don't like something, I don't buy it. If I do, I do. Simple. My Realms will be run how I see fit, as I suspect your Realms should be. Everyone feel free to come back though when Wizards personally come to your house with the new edition, and force feed it at gun point to you. :P

Just play the things you love, and let others do the same. This forum has seen enough poster damage to last it a lifetime -- or at least another edition change.
