Holidays: Birthdays, Weekends, and Midsummer

Aug 28, 2008 21:51:22 I have a couple of questions here, all falling under a broad topic of holidays in the Realms.

First off, a PC I DM for recently mentioned that the next game-day is her character's birthday, having chosen that day since 1st edition. Of course, I play online, so 'recently' means last months, and the next game-day could be a few months away. This is something I'd never considered for my own characters, and rarely see it on other people's characters either. Do any PCs have birthdays?

Anyway, I was wondering how folk in the Realms celebrate their birthdays? Is it much like we do, or something quite different? Is there any mention of birthdays in the lore?

Nextly, the campaign is leading up to Midsummer, upon which something might happen... I was wondering about what sorts of things go on on Midsummer, how people celebrate it.

I know what it says in the various CSes, about how maidens are hunted down by their suitors and... you get the picture. I also found some quite extraordinary tales by Ed Greenwood about what goes on in Silverymoon (and stays in Silverymoon). Is there more info somewhere, and rated G?

Finally, weekends. In a 10 day week, I guess they don't do Saturdays and Sundays. Which days do people take off?

I've checked the CS books for these, the FR wiki, and Ed Greenwood's replies, with no result. I know there's a lot of religious holidays which I'll check next, and probably make use of. Anything else?

Disclaimer: The year is 1375, set in the Vast, though I'm interested in other FR locales.

And as I mentioned, the Vast. But again, anything will do.

I'm currently compiling a calender of all the religious holidays mentioned in F&A and others. I'll release it when its done.
