Since the CG for Forgotten Realms leaves a lot for DM interpretation in relation to the changes that the spellplague wrought upon the Realms, what changes/assumptions have you all made to your Abeir-Toril?

Mine:
  • City of Hope - A economically self-sustaining city where I used the description from "Blackstaff" to describe the overall appearance. It is ran by a coucil of powerful figures cloaked by magic to prevent identification. Entrance into the city requires invitation from a local resident. Points of entry are the nine towers that surround the city, and within one of the said towers a local Sharn must slice open the veil with a hopeblade (lore correct?). After initial entry the Mythal recognizes that person for future entry.
  • Shade Enclave (Shadowfell) - The shade enclave has a perfectly identical city within the Shadowfell which rests atop a huge mountain (rather than floats). All important figures/items/lore is safeguarded within this city rather than the Faerun one.
  • City/Villiage Ruins - Throughout Abeir-Toril are the ruins of villages and cities that did not survive the spellplague. One example is Old Secomber; a huge mass of ruins on the North side of the Grayflow River.

Ok, thanks. The appearance of Spellplague increased the deviations from canon from about 1/3 of Faerun being different to now almost everything. The most recent change out of thousands.

  • Current campaign cirucumstances: Faerun is no longer atop numerous lost and fallen empires. Now it's the Golden Age, inspired by the Dawnforge setting. Impiltur's nobility are psionic allomancers (from Sanderson's Mistborn novels, post-apocalyptic, fits with Spellplague if anyone's interested). In addition their typical magic, the people of Raumathar are furycrafters from Codex Alera, Uthgardt have Marat abilities.

Okay. Here's Yuir, my half-elven nation. It was born out of my realization that, outside of the Crinti(half-drow) of Dambrath in 3e, and the two half-even dragonmarked houses in Eberron, I never felt any desire to play a half-elf. Giving them a nation makes me want to play one.

O.K., technically, the Yuirwood was their nation, but...
Half-Elf 1:Hi! Welcome to our nation!
Half-Elf 2:We're woodsy. All of us.
(insert groans of boredom here).

Just a quick shot because the lunch hour is over:

The drow have retaken the High Moor and are focused on archaeological expeditions to recover the glory of Miyeritar. They are still the drow, but now there's a whole generation that doesn't fear the sunlight, and that has some local communities worried. Lolth has been ousted and is building her new followers from faithful drow priestesses who have become vampires. Gromph is on the verge of godhood.
