#1 durgine Mar 14, 2012 20:54:16	The question I've been wondering is how alive is LFR, how often and where do you play.  I've had difficulties finding any face to face games. This is not meant to be a thread about why you stopped playing, or what you think might be wrong with the living campaign.  More, do you still play and where?  I've been turning to online more due to lack of local area support, and have not been able to attend cons with work/family obligations.  I would post in the LFR forums, but some players I've spoken with say they play but don't read the forums anymore.  I played a lot at first, stopped for a stretch when LFR was handed over from wizards to community run, about the time rarity rules came into play I believe, played some online, moved, and want to play more again. My example: Private Play:       Home Games:  I run and play with a half face to face group, supported with maptools or fantasy grounds 2 for those remote, but infrequently. Public Games (Online):           DDI VTT: The VTT beta (with respect to LFR) seems to have about 20 regulars running 2 or 3 games a week.  Typically, first post after announcement get slots. LFR forums available only to DDI subscribers (community.wizards.com/dndbeta/go/forum/v...) but subscribers can give out a limited number of VTT keys to non subscribers for table access.  Functional and fun experience.  Easy to set up a module with provided tiles and importing monsters, some editing required.  Cannot share modules amongst DMs.  Easy to import character from builder, some editing required.       Maptools:  About 20 LFR regulars or more that I can tell.  Games run about as frequently as DDI VTT.  Slotting system where you get scored if you play and dm, resulting in most of the group dming and playing, with slots being filled from pool of interested players a day before play time.  Superior play experience with a great tool.  Creating mod from scratch is not easy, but all previous created LFR mods posted on public 4Shared site.  Not easy to set up a player token the first time.  Recent talk of starting the 4 public available Epic LFR modules, so all range of characters play. Dedicated living campaign forums found here (heavily LFR) forums.rptools.net/viewforum.php?f=19.       Fantasy Grounds:  Haven't seen a LFR game on their forums in years. www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdispl...       OpenRPG:  Most active at first with Warhorn and Yahoo Groups coordinating, LFR dead now, maybe because Blackstar server died?       BattleGrounds: never seen a LFR game in forums: battlegroundsgames.com/forums/index.php?...       Other Virtual Platforms: ?       Play by Post: haven't seen LFR since early 4E days.    Public Games (In Person):        Games Shops: I only see Encounters and Lair Assault, tried to dredge up interest in LFR but playerbase for Encounters and Lair Assault appears lackluster at the moment, I swear less people showing up seems to coincide with the DnDNext announcement, but maybe that's only when I started paying attention..       Gamedays: I see on Warhorn some areas still play LFR, looking at you KC and Nashville, but mostly see dead groups. Organized Play:       Conventions: I haven't been able to attend any lately.  Is LFR a big draw, or more a side event or not even supported at some cons anymore?

We recently ran a second Battle Interactive at Armored Ogre Games in Inver Grove Heights and have at least a monthly session there. A group of us that have been playing a group (two parties worth) of characters for about four years now also get together at private residences and are closing in on Epic. I currently have four characters that could be considered "regularly" played right now with a number of others that have also seen play multiple times and a couple in the hopper I really want to play yet also.    Gen Con's also a pretty big draw. I usually play five sessions or so there. The 8:00 am time slot is a great time to game and still be free for lunch.

#6 mvincent Mar 15, 2012 15:20:49	The question I've been wondering is how alive is LFR, how often and where do you play. I have two bi-weekly LFR home games. I'm also running four LFR session at a convention (Gamestorm) next week... but that's basically just once a year (PAX doesn't do LFR anymore, and Orycon never really did). WotC's shifting of support away from LFR has had expected results on public games; LFR at local stores has dried up. Still, a lot of the public Neverwinter events (2 Lair assaults, a game day, and an encounters season) could be viewed as having ties to LFR.
#7 Ogiwan Mar 15, 2012 17:01:20	I play every other week at my Friendly Local Gaming Store. However, if I had the choice of playing LFR, or playing in a home campaign, I'd pick the latter in a heartbeat. The only reason I do play LFR is so I can scratch the itch of playing (and so I can support my FLGS).

#10 Alphastream Mar 16, 2012 16:49:52	It seems to vary very heavily by location. The group I usually played with has turned to home games, and I've been busy enough with AoA that I haven't been able to push for more games. My general feeling is that any decently-sized place can get some games going, but it takes work. I've started LG and LFR and Spycraft games from really small initial pools. Meetup, Yahoo, EN World, Pen and Paper, and signs in gaming stores/book stores/coffee shops - use them all and eventually players will be found. Online is similar. OpenRPG died off, but I think a lot of that was the platform being really dated. There are gamers out there and online games will happen if you hunt players down and run games (and set up a system for alternating DMing). I attend the large cons, and that's where the bulk of my gaming takes place. I very much like how LFR has improved over time. The adventures I played at DDXP were largely excellent. I keep an eye on small cons, and while I don't see super-huge numbers, they seem pretty stable over the past year.
#11 Plaguescarred1 Mar 16, 2012 19:55:41	I play or run LFR games every week on the D&D VT and i am really enjoying myself. I think LFR is a good fit for one shots on the Virtual Table for a rich 4 hours play experience and the regulars are a ton of fun to play with. LFR Tables fill up pretty fast usually so people need to be quick to join. Usually others interested get relayed as alternate and are called upon if someone doesn't show up.   From time to time we have newcomers as well and its really fun to meet and get to play with new people too. LFR rocks !
#12 gomeztoo Mar 17, 2012 5:43:47	I play very  infrequently, once a month or less, mostly since I now also play Pathfinder and I have to balance the time I have available. I know plenty of people who play - I just either don't have the time or the real drive to organize play which you have to do in advance.  I actually write more than I play. Gomez
