did she absorb mystra's energy when selune killed her (seeing as it was her sacrifice that created the weave?)

when elistree died, did her energy return to the moon?

or is it something similar?

Selune did not kill Mystra. Cyric killed Mystra, and the energies from this destroyed her home plane and caused the Spellplague. Shar prevented the rise of a new deity of magic. Shar re-absorbed her portion of Mystra's energy, and Selune re-absorbed her portion of Mystra's energy.

Corellon took Eilistraee's essence into himself when she "died," and presumably brought her followers into his fold. Considering that Eilistraee's plane didn't discorporate, and she herself merely vanished rather than being killed, it is entirely possible that she may return someday.

-However you want. Nothing is mentioned on how she did it. My favorite theory is that, being the moon deity, she goes through phases, like the moon. Currently, she is in her "Full Moon" stage, making her a Greater Deity. At times in the past, she was in her "Waxing/Waning" phase, making her an Intermediate Deity, or in her "New Moon" stage, making her a Lesser Deity.

In 2e Selune was already a Greater Deity.

And back in Gray Box days she was a "Lesser Power." Sounds like there's a lot of support for Lord Karsus' intriguing "phases" theory.

Hmm, ok.
Nonetheless it's far more plausible that one of the two oldest deities in Realmspace is a Greater Deity than a lesser. Anyway, since she's closely associated with the moon LK's theory is very plausible, too.

Er, Lord K's theory is actually the same thing that was written in Selune's writeup in 2E Faiths & Avatars.....

I always assumed people knew that?

Cool, cool. I didn't know it--but then I just bought that book a week or two ago when I made the unfortunate (for my bank account) discovery of the Paizo .pdf downloads of older Realms material (and yeah, I know about the free stuff at wizards.com and haven't mistakenly ordered something free--yet).

Anyway, I see that she's listed there as "Intermediate," so more fuel for the moonlit fire. And of course, Lord Karsus probably either developed his theory independently (if he's not much like me) or read it a hundred years ago, mostly forgot about it, then "came up with it" from faulty memory (if he is anything like me). Nobody's fighting for a share of a Nobel or anything. :D

And thus he said 'My favourite theory is...' and not 'My theory is...' ;)

-Right. Second edition sources aren't omniscient, so anything they say are simply hypothesizes.
