how much light does a fire genasi's head give off?

Feb 27, 2012 17:17:17 is it like a torch? can they make it more or less like magic? it doesn't actually burn right? just like an everburning torch or something?

sorry if this is in the wrong forum. the 4th edition has a forum for races and monsters but 3.5 doesn't so it's here in general. what exactly is "realmslore anyway?

I don’t have my rulebooks in front of me, but as a DM I’d rule the fire genasi’s head gives off no discernible light.

However, in moments of extreme stress, I’d say it glows with light equivalent to a candle flame.

Realmslore is the name for information about the Forgotten Realms. It’s a combination of the words Realms and Lore.

Feb 27, 2012 17:52:40 4e FRPG p.11: "Physical Qualities" "Firesoul: Ruddy bronze skin; fiery orange energy lines and eyes; flickering flames coming out of the energy lines on the head."... no mechanical benefit is mentioned (like with other light-emitting effects) so none could be assumed.

Also, 3.5e FRCS said: "They appear mostly human, with one or two unusual traits reflecting their quasi-elemental nature, such as skin the color of burnt coal, red hair that waves like flames, or eyes that glow when the genasi is angry.". Since the book also states that they have darkvision 60', it seems that their description here is just that: descriptive text with no mechanical benefit.

That said: 4e DMG p.67 has this, if desired: "The last entries on the table show the light emitted by fire creatures—fire elementals, hell hounds, or immoliths, for example. Only creatures made of fire (which includes most creatures that have the fire keyword) shed this much light." --- "Medium fire creature: 10 square radius"

Feb 27, 2012 18:24:52 so a fire genasi gives off light in a 10 square radius? they have the word fire in their name? or would it be less for them? seems way to much for a fiery head. lol.
it says "(which includes most creatures that have the fire keyword)". how do you tell which ones are part of the "most"?

not trying to be a pain but almost all of the pics i've seen of a fire genasi, both D&D and not, they have firey hair. flames flickering off the head and all that good stuff?
