| #1dreadheadsrockMar 13, 2008 16:29:34 | so i love DND and I think 4E looks really good but they are changing the setting to Forgotten Realms, and as my title might suggest i really have no idea about Forgotten Realm. My group has always just played with the basic books. I know the FR has a very deep history and a vast landscape and i was wonder if i have never played in FR will it be overwhelming to jump in to and try to run a game or is it pretty similar to the basic DND game thanks alot |

| #3lord_karsusMar 13, 2008 23:25:33 | -You buy the FRCS, you get a brief overview of the setting, and what it's like, and then you set your campaign in whatever region you want. Supplemental information is invariably availible concerning nearly every region on the map, should you need it. |

Any other areas that you need to know about will be in the FRCS that you can read as the campaign progresses. When I got my kids into D&D we played in FR and I gave them a bit of information about the dalelands and surrounding areas and they had no problems. |
| #5dreadheadsrockMar 14, 2008 12:57:53 | thanks for all the comments I think I will just read up of some stuff before hand to have a handle but it seems other then that it should be find. one more quick question are the monster different in FR then the basic DND ? |
| #6alediranMar 14, 2008 13:10:46 | No, the basic monsters are pretty much the same in FR, there are specific FR monsters, but again, you only need to use them if you feel they'll help improving your campaign. And any question you have you can go to the Main Forgotten Realms boards, somebody will be able to help you with any doubts you have. |
| #7lord_karsusMar 14, 2008 14:20:46 | one more quick question are the monster different in FR then the basic DND ? -As a whole? No. Stats and all of that are interchangable. |
| #8stryfeMar 15, 2008 1:55:48 | Okay, guess I'll be the bad guy and say it... The new game they're releasing is FR in name only and has been completely demolished so no, you shouldn't have any trouble jumping right in without knowing anything about the real FR...or at least that's what they're telling everyone. If you're picking it up just for $ed, then don't spend time learning the history or it will just make you upset to see how bad they mauled it to make their name game ![]() |
| #9lord_karsusMar 15, 2008 10:15:28 | Okay, guess I'll be the bad guy and say it... -Hey, hey! We're not talking about 4e Forgotten Realms here! |
| #10quale_Mar 15, 2008 15:11:50 | from what I've seen in several threads, this world is a mess |
| #11rauricMar 15, 2008 16:45:47 | FR is great because it is supported by a game company. Playing in any published campaign setting is nice because it makes the game seem more real to the players and it makes the DMs job much easier. There is alot of materail online you could get ideas from also. |
