| #1ninjaarthiddenjutsu_dupSep 25, 2008 20:45:11 | I think it would be a fun nation to run the start of my campaign in. It has some nice sentient aspects with the PCs helping to unify a solid government and it's small enough and on the frontier for it to be pretty fun - and allows me to play a pretty cool horde invasion later on. The fact that demons are running amok in the wilderness also opens it up to fun cinematic play. But I can't help but feel that FRCG cheaps out on the info about the nation. Are there any novels/online resources that have a history of the nation in the realms? Any info you can provide would be great. |
| #2oluevaraSep 25, 2008 20:50:28 | Impiltur figures big in the Year of Rogue Dragons series by Richard Lee Byers. A Grand History of The Realms lists every ruler of Impiltur ever. Those are the only ones i can think of at the moment - it's never been a huge focus of game design that i know of. |
| #3BadCatManSep 25, 2008 21:12:14 | Yeah, Impiltur's not called the Forgotten Kingdom for nothing. ![]() If you can hunt them down, Impiltur gets some details in: The Bloodstone Lands (the 2e sourcebook, but mostly only as a neighbouring region) Champions Of Valor (a few bits about weapons, some history, knight orders) There was a Dragon magazine article (back in the paper version) that covered Impiltur and updated events to 3rd edition. There's also bits in the campaign settings for each edition, and the old Wizards & Rogues Of The Realms and Warriors & Priests Of The Realms sourcebooks. Most of which isn't a lot of help in post-Spellplague Realms though. |
| #4lord_karsusSep 25, 2008 21:18:28 | -This thread belongs in the Realmslore section. It'll be moved there. |
| #5markustay63Sep 28, 2008 11:19:19 | I'm sure George Krashos will be along shortly to give you some incite, since he is considered THE premier scholar on the place. The Dragon article appeared in #346 - which I am fortunate to have in it's 'pristine', un-editted state. :D There is also the map I made for it by request of GK himself, over at CK. ;) It's 3e, but there are still a few older adventuring sites on there that might be of some use. |
| #6lord_karsusSep 29, 2008 14:09:05 | -Whoops. I went digging for the Border Kingdom archives, thinking you were looking for information on the Border Kingdoms. Oops... -Well, here's a link, anyway. |

| #8lord_karsusSep 29, 2008 20:15:45 | What version of the Forgotten Realms CG do you have? -The FRCG is only 4e. The FRCS is 3e. And, the stuff before that is the stuff before that. |
| #9naexSep 29, 2008 21:44:15 | Champions of Ruin has a bit of Impiltur lore as well. The Soneillon, "Queen of Whispers" to be specific. |
| #10KrashOct 05, 2008 21:37:20 | As previous posters noted, most of the historical background for Impiltur can be gleaned from my Dragon article in issue #346 and the lineage in GHotR. There are more tidbits in Champions of Ruin and Champions of Valor respectively. Were you after anything in particular? -- George Krashos |
| #11crazedventurersOct 06, 2008 6:21:58 | A link from Candlekeep for you regarding Impiltur (Lore courtesy of George) Lore on Sarshel, Dilpur, and Hlammach cheers Damian |
| #12christopher_roweOct 06, 2008 7:10:18 | DMs shouldn't neglect the information in the Backgrounds chapter of the FRPG as well. I've found that there's usually several tidbits included that expand upon and clarify the lore in the corresponding FRCG entries (ore even update them, as seems to be the case with Baldur's Gate material). |

| #14christopher_roweOct 06, 2008 13:35:43 | An update No, no, I wasn't clear, sorry. I just mean that there are indications in the text that the "campaign date" of the FRPG is a bit later than that of the FRCG. From the information that's available in various previews and publishing catalogs and so on, my guess is that it has to do with which novels had been turned in by the time each book was editorially locked. |

| #17old_sageOct 11, 2008 21:14:17 | Sea of Fallen Stars will also prove somewhat useful. As well as DRAGON #277 - "Soargar's Legacy" -- George's detailing, with a little Impilturan lore, of these important weapons for the realm. -- And, my-soon-to-be-completed [like everything else I'm offering up to Candlekeep] compilation of ALL of Krash's "Impiltur" posts made both at Candlekeep and here at WotC through the years. |

| #19christopher_roweOct 12, 2008 9:24:48 | Hey, I just noticed that there's a module set in Impiltur out from the RPGA (and it looks like there will be others in the future), so you might want to check those out. IMPI1-2 Breaking Point The cities of Impiltur are rife with crime and corruption. Many a citizen suffers silently with nowhere to go, but when an extortionist goes too far, one weaponsmith is brave enough to hire adventurers even though there are signs of the supernatural. (Got the description from a .pdf you can download here.) Updated to add that you might also want to check out this thread, which announces what I believe is a discussion group just about Impiltur. |
| #20old_sageOct 21, 2008 20:00:26 | I like to keep you busy Sage. There's a new one up. I know you do. ;) And hey, it looks like I may actually have enough of these replies now to start generating an "Index" of sorts! ![]() |
