| #1ishurialMar 08, 2009 7:45:19 | After reading the fantastic Artemis books I got thinking, what if Drizzt went on an epic adventure to find 2 scimitar artifacts. What ideas do you have for a potential artifact(s) that are 2x scimitars? Just an idea but id like to see what people can come up with. |
| #2suin_bahhar_02Mar 08, 2009 7:58:43 | Artifects rarely take the shape of a scimitar. They usually contain spelllike abilities with large areas of effect or impact. Epic tier scimmies can be thought of though... Like a smaller version of Mielikki's Hornblade (similar to twinkle but for more bite against evil) for example. |
| #3BadCatManMar 08, 2009 8:22:27 | Seeing as how Icingdeath can apparently one-shot a balor... I'd say Drizzt already has at least one artifact level weapon. :D |
| #4rauricMar 08, 2009 8:38:13 | Do you want stats or a story? If stats which edition? |
| #5drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 11:04:00 | IMO Drizzts scimitars wouldn't classify as artifacts simply magic weapons. Besides aren't aritifacts god blessed or made by really powerful arch mages? Like the Ring of Winter or the Crynishad? And no Icingdeath can't one shot a balor it is a simple icebrand that's the most effective against fire creatures or creatures from the nine hells. It would have to be in a balor a decent amount of time so it can drain the lifeforce of said creature. Not an instant kill weapon unless a vital organ was struck. For Drizzt to find a scimitar shaped artifact I would assume he would have to be on a quest for a god of battle or war. I never recall hearing that Mielikki advocating battle. |
| #6markustay63Mar 08, 2009 11:07:35 | And why oh WHY would anybody even consider making Drizzt even more UBER then he already is? Is he not Kewl enough for you now? Would you like the next RAS novel to be called The Thousand Gods? Seriously, someone should just put an arrow through this little gender-confused pathetic Drow already. Doesn't anyone other then Cattie Brie have a godamn bow in the Realms?! ![]() |
| #7drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 11:28:55 | And why oh WHY would anybody even consider making Drizzt even more UBER then he already is? Actually Drizzt has Cattie-Brie's bow so no luck there ![]() Maybe she could use Magic Missiles since she's a mage now......but wait he's survived those 2 Sorry MT Drizzt jus can't die.(at least until he stops making money for Wotc) ![]() Wait I got an idea, Why don't you hire a bunch of kender to go around and acquire all the Drizzts merchandise and then have a bonfire to destroy it. That way no one can "buy" anything WOTC can make money from. Then he'll just fade away away away. ![]() |
| #8rauricMar 08, 2009 11:59:55 | And why oh WHY would anybody even consider making Drizzt even more UBER then he already is? Good job with helping the OP. C'mon now. |
| #9drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 12:16:34 | Actually I've been thinking maybe you can have swords as artifacts(excalibur). The problem is that Drizzt has grown fond of his weapons and unless they get lost or get destroyed he's likely to stick with them. Maybe you can go on an adventure and at the end some powerful archmage/or deity etc..simply enhance his weapons even more powerful than they are now. |
| #10sigma34561Mar 08, 2009 17:44:46 | Well if your desire is to bend a book and stuff it into the rules system. The sword is not an artifact, or else it would have left him by now. The balor was clearly a minion. The DM determined that it was not a threat and as such, it went down in one hit. |
| #11RUMPLESTIXMar 08, 2009 18:32:23 | And why oh WHY would anybody even consider making Drizzt even more UBER then he already is? About this: Is he not Kewl enough for you now? Would you like the next RAS novel to be called The Thousand Gods? Yes.Yes. please! [/sarcasm] Anyway, back to the op. In the earliest days, before the separation of Abeir from Toril, there was a terrible primordial who sought to destroy the nature of the forests (or whatever, blah blah, blah...) and began to do so until he was finally stopped by one of the earliest gods who perhaps was the first Ranger, a 2WF ranger. However, although the god died in the battle the primordial was only laid into a deep slumber and the rejoining of Abeir and Toril was the first step to its reawakening. Drizzt encounters an oracle they begin to piece together what is happening and it becomes a quest to recover the scimitars of the dead god (Mielikki's father?) to do battle with the awakening primordial. If we are lucky, history will repeat itself and Drizzt will die a noble death while succeeding in defeating the primordial. if we are not lucky, Drizzt will both succeed and survive bettering even one of the old gods. ![]() I have no idea about stats for the scimitars though. |
| #12lord_karsusMar 08, 2009 19:09:48 | -If Drizzt got his hands on two artifacts, in the form of scimitars...It is likely that people more powerful than Drizzt will want them, and forcibly take them from him.And why oh WHY would anybody even consider making Drizzt even more UBER then he already is? -Yes. |
| #13RUMPLESTIXMar 08, 2009 19:23:05 | Ooh! Ooh! I have an idea for the scimitars I previously listed. It would make them similar to Veccna's body parts in a fashion. When the scimitars are ready to move on (such as defeating the primordial I mentioned...) the user gets turned to ash. Yes! That is it! |
| #14BadCatManMar 08, 2009 19:59:05 | The idea of artifacts "moving on" is mainly a 4th edition concept (probably so PCs can't keep them all the time). Older edition artifacts had no such worries, and still apply in FR discussions. And Drizzt, IIRC, got Errtu in the knee. A critical hit, sure, but that was one heck of a good damage roll. |
| #15ishurialMar 08, 2009 20:24:44 | The thought came from 2 viewpoints: NOTE: SPOILER ALERTS. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED READING THE LATEST DRIZZT BOOK 1) Drizzt vs Artemis battle are always close. Dramatically close and I was thinking how Artemis would fare now IF he were to battle Drizzt again with Charon's claw (imo it wouldnt matter but the thought was provoked nonetheless). 2) In the latest book, The Pirate King, Drizzt finally comes up against Arathrogate (may be spelt wrong) and I remember reading something along the lines of "Icing death felt the hit off Arathrogate's morning star, leaving a permanent nick in the fine blade" While just thoughts, it appears drizzts "fine blades" are finally comming up against foes and their respective weaps that may be too much for his scims to handle. To counter an argument posed above. There is a very good reason why 2x artifact scimitars may exist. An epic duel wielding ranger (ie not bow spec) may have come to find scimitars as ideal weapons to duel wield and through some epic adventure had 2 swords made (together characterize an artifact). Finally...perhaps the epic ranger is Drizzt and 2 could be made for him? He his good friends with Lady Silvermoon is he not. |
| #16markustay63Mar 08, 2009 20:55:55 | I think Drizzt himself should become two artifacts... The Hand of Drizzt... the Eye of Drizzt... the liver of Drizzt... heck! Lets just cut him all up so everyone can get an artifact. :D New Artifact: The Spleen of Drizzt Automatically makes all enemies within a thriy foot range kill themselves. It also works even quicker on allies within the radius. To activate the device, the PC must concentrate for one round on how pitiful his life is, and stare at the artifact with sad, puppy-dog eyes. -If Drizzt got his hands on two artifacts, in the form of scimitars...It is likely that people more powerful than Drizzt will want them, and forcibly take them from him. In that case, I can get onboard with this - give him a hundred artifacts if it will make him go-away quicker. :P |
| #17drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 21:41:23 | Just so you know the hate feeds his popularity almost as much as the love. I'm telling you just ignore him hope that others(not me) follow suit. |
| #18lord_karsusMar 08, 2009 22:44:43 | To counter an argument posed above. There is a very good reason why 2x artifact scimitars may exist. | #19drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 23:00:30 | -Nitpick: Drizzt is not Epic level. You sure about that? I mean it seems that almost everyone on Faerun seems to know him or of him. Plus almost everyone in the real world who associate with any WotC worlds have heard of him(some like most hate). Sounds pretty Epic to me![]() Unless i misunderstood the meaning of Epic level? |
| #20lord_karsusMar 08, 2009 23:10:30 |
-Epic Level, in 3e and 4e terminology, is Level 20+. In 3e, Drizzt was not above Level 20. Since 2e, he has been hovering somewhere between 16th level and 18th Level, depending on the source and edition, with a variety of different classes. -Drizzt isn't very widely known in Faerûn at large, either. Ghostwalker takes place in a small frontier town in the Silver Marches. In it, Drizzt is mentioned, in a very, "fuzzy" way, meaning that people not even across the Silver Marches know of him very much. Of all of the "Larger than Life" personalities that the Forgotten Realms has, Drizzt is perhaps the most localized of them. He isn't very widely traveled, or widely known, outside of the Icewind Dale area. |
| #21drizztsmanchildMar 08, 2009 23:30:13 | Ah. Ok sorry for the mistake about "Epic Level". Maybe in 4e he's not very wildly known but pre Spellplague(or his marriage to Cattie -Brie same thing :rimshot he did travel quite a bit. just to name a few cities his known in: Evermeet( I'm not sure where I read this but I know its from a canon source) Silverymoon, Calimport, Baulders gate, The city where Caladen and Mari(from Crypt of the Shadowking novels) lives/lived in(at least Mari knows of him) Memnon Carradoon Plus the cities he visited along the Sword coast from the years he traveled with Deudermont) etc... cause I'm sure there's plenty more cities. Jarlaxle also used his name as a cover when he first left Calimport. So you can add whatever cities he went to as"Drizzt " as well. Now in 4 generations of human history things stories songs documents etc... can get lost but im sure the longer lived races will surely remember the Drow who turned away from the evil of his people to forge ahead to do good in the world;) |
| #22ishurialMar 08, 2009 23:59:45 | My use of the word epic was related to the statement made just above meaning drizzt may become an epic ranger/fighter worthy of such an item(s). To clarify: Artemis has an artifact and without attempted disambiguation he is pretty epic :P |
| #23angelus_obscuraMar 09, 2009 2:11:20 | Seeing as how Icingdeath can apparently one-shot a balor... I'd say Drizzt already has at least one artifact level weapon. :D Or a Weapon of Legacy. I think felling that balor in nearly one-hit qualifies as a nigh epic founding event. I'd say it awakened Icingdeath to greater powers (and glory). |
| #24drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 3:56:54 | Point of history: The battle with Errtu(balor) in the Crystal Shard was not a "one-hit" kill. Errtu had Drizzt on the ground and Drizzt was hacking wildy with his "normal" scimitar to no avail. However Drizzt then struck out with Icingdeath to the back of Errtu's knee which cause some damage and forced Errtu to jump back allowing Drizzt to get up and face Errtu face to face relatively speaking. Drizzt then struck with Icingdeath again and Errtu unable to move out of the way(being since they were battling in a small cave) was struck in the belly and the power of Icingdeath blew Drizzt away from the hilt and proved to much for Errtu to remove and thus Icingdeath drained Errtu's prime plane essence and banishing him to the abyss. Their second battle in "Passage to Dawn" was a more drawn out affair and required all of the party to defeat Errtu. Like I said before Icingdeath isn't a "one-shot" weapon unless it strikes a vital organ. Its just an magically enchanced sword that is most beneficial against "fire" or "fire-bred creature" |
| #25quale1Mar 09, 2009 9:01:37 | the battle with Errtu was a typical novel kill, where characters die from a single blow, all I remember is that he gutted him Drizzt can find Iyachtu Xvim's Scimitar of Souls then get on with the godslaying |
| #26lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 11:15:00 | Ah. Ok sorry for the mistake about "Epic Level". Maybe in 4e he's not very wildly known but pre Spellplague(or his marriage to Cattie -Brie same thing :rimshot -I don't know pretty much anything from the 4e setting. Drizzt, in 3e and before, was never well known or well traveled. He was was "centered" and operated primarily in the Icewind Dale region. He was known primarily there, and there for the most part. |
| #27spectralphoenixMar 09, 2009 11:36:28 | Now in 4 generations of human history things stories songs documents etc... can get lost but im sure the longer lived races will surely remember the Drow who turned away from the evil of his people to forge ahead to do good in the world;) You mean the entire church of Eilistraee? |
| #28krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 11:55:50 | He was level 16-18 in 3.x, has had 100 years to 'grow', so it is entirely possible that he is, indeed, an Epic level NPC now. That said, I'd see it as more likely that he would upgrade his current weapons, in some fashion, then replace them. |
| #29zaeshirMar 09, 2009 11:59:19 | -Epic Level, in 3e and 4e terminology, is Level 20+. In 3e, Drizzt was not above Level 20. Since 2e, he has been hovering somewhere between 16th level and 18th Level, depending on the source and edition, with a variety of different classes. The problem I have is that we know very little about Drizzt post-spellplague. AFAIK he's just about doubled in age since then (94 years since the spellplague and I think most of the Drizzt novels took a few years before 1385 if I recall correctly. I don't remember Drizzt's age in those novels, but I recall it being under or around 100). If that's true, he very well could have gained enough levels to slip into the early epic tier (per 4e rules) provided he did something other than mope in the intervening 100 years. I also don't know how famous he is outside of the Sword Coast North (and now Many-Arrows it would seem) in the post-spellplague world. He may have traveled extensively in those years, or he may have been so engrossed in trying to ensure stability in the region that he never left. Hard to say. If I had to guess, he's still relatively regional in fame, but has slipped into the early epic levels in the 100 years that have passed between editions. I guess we'll have a better idea if RAS ever puts out books regarding those post-spellplague years. For now it's all speculation. |

| #32lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 12:35:12 | Not so, read The Orc King, it details a lot of things he said he did post 1385 DR. -No it doesn't. It mentions that Drizzt "fought Obould II in the great war in the Year of the Solitary Cloister". That is all. There isn't much context in this, as we don't know who/what Obould II is/was like, nor do we know what the 'great war' was. Mentions are made of changes to the world, such as him seeing close friends die, or the "greatest cathedral" going up in smoke, and the deaths of Eilistraee's followers, and the disastrous joining of worlds, and so on and so forth. Mentions are made of things that happened, not things that Drizzt did. Drizzt did not kill his friends, destroy the "greatest cathedral", slay Eilistraee's followers, and so on. |
| #33krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 12:54:15 | ...It says, and implies, that he did more then sit around in a dark corner and mope. If you have the book, skim through the part where is is berating an Elf, it shows that he was quite active in the intervening years. |
| #34lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 12:55:46 | ...It says, and implies, that he did more then sit around in a dark corner and mope. -I just read it, to respond to you. It does not say anywhere that Drizzt did X, Y, or Z. It says that he knew of, or witnessed X, Y, or Z, but not that he participated in X, Y, or Z. Open up the book and look. |

That's Drizzt for you, one who stands by to do nothing when there is a need... |

Well I did allow for the possibility that he'd just sit and mope for years That being said that I don't think that's what he did. That wouldn't make for a very interesting novel, now would it? I don't think he traveled far, but I think there were probably plenty of challenges for him to overcome during that time period. What challenges those were, well, I guess we'll have to wait for RAS to put out a book (or short story, etc.) dealing with that.I probably won't read it though. I lost my taste for the Drizzt books around the time of Thousand Orcs. The books are all too similar now for my tastes. |

| #40lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 16:01:35 | I'd be more then happy too, as soon as you provide me a citation that says Drizzt moped in a cave for 103 years. -The burden of proof is on you, as I inquired first. -I do not need a citation, as I never stated that Drizzt moped around in a cave for 103 years. I stated that there was the possibility that he "moped around in a cave for 103 years"- in effect, did nothing notable or out of the ordinary to put him above 20th Level, in 3e terms. There is no evidence in the text to support that he was able to pass that plateau, save a vague mention of fighting against Obould II with no context. You are claiming that there is: Go ahead and cite the examples that we have that conclusively state that during the 104 year transitory period from 1,375 DR to 1,479 DR, Drizzt did X, Y, and Z, which would translate in D&D rule mechanics, to gaining experience points and going up levels. |
| #41krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 17:04:15 | Did I say he did? I said it implied he did, I didn't say it did... and while it is 'possible' he spent a century crying in a corner, it is more likely that he was, AT LEAST, half as active as he has been since we've known him.Using what little we know, and not thinking like a bunch of simpletons, it is very easy to see, and agree, that he is, indeed, most likely, Epic level by now. |
| #42markustay63Mar 09, 2009 17:26:43 | LOL... You guys crack me up. Drizzt couldn't have possibly moped in a cave for hundred years, because he doesn't exist. Neither does the cave, or the world for that matter. As of right now, aside from fighting Obould II, he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, and until R.A. Salvatore decides to write another story about him that gives us a few more details, NOTHING AT ALL has happened. He stood perfectly still after the last novel ended - then fought Obould II a few years later - and then stoof perfectly still again until the prologue of Orc King. Assuming things are happening in a fantasy world when no one is looking is a little bit... crazy... ya know? |
| #43krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 17:35:07 | LOL... ...Aside from the assuming thing, I agree to a point. (I never assume, it's bad for your health) We, err... I anyways, know the difference between real and fantasy. That said, speculation on a fictional character is nothing new and I highly doubt anyone here is thinking/wishing/hoping/dreaming, that Drizzt will pop out of a book to take them out for dinner. Now, knowing that 100 years in a fictional world, in which said fictional character resides, has passed, it is completely within the realm of acceptability to contemplate how said fictional character has grown, in said fictional world. |
| #44crossroads_wandererMar 09, 2009 17:36:08 | Slightly off-topc, but:About this: Mielikki's father is Silvanus, so unless I have missed something, Mielikki's father is still around. I don't actually have the 4e campaign books, but I heard that they left most of the major gods (other than the racial ones) alone. |
| #45drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 18:46:52 | Well what we do know is that he is very active during the Spellplague as stated on Amazon in the description(which should be canon right? Otherwise Wotc would have them remove it ..) of "The Ghost King" as Drizzt and his friends(don't know who yet) and Cadderly are dealing with Crenshinnabon(artifact thought destroyed) and the effects of thje spellplague. How long does the Spellplague last? And the jump is 103 yrs after the spellplague right? Or is the spellplague included in the 103 yr jump? |
| #46sfdragonMar 09, 2009 18:57:13 | the spell plague is during the 100+ year jump. anyway, the terms that dnd uses that I dislike how they ar used are: artifacts and epic. 1: artifacts are two broad, and then they fell into 2 categories. a: divine relic b: historical item of note. 2: Epic. legenday would of done better. anyway, I'd have to ask, during the all the editions of dnd, you can create items that did more damage than artifact weapons, why would drizzt need an artifact when he could come across 2 scimitars that well never mind that would be a plot issue. btw: does anyone even know if the spellplague screwed around with his scimitars making them more potent?? ( besides, a Scimitar of mine, in motb was a +8 adamant scimitar that dealt 5d6 points of vampiric regenration, and add the 3 blessings, and it was artifact worthy: Fang of the Bear god) |
| #47drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 19:04:57 | Well LK there you go;) Since the spellplague was a part of the 103 yr jump we now know that Drizzt didn't mope around the entire 103 yrs. ![]() |
| #48lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 21:46:25 | Did I say he did? -Your statement was: "...It says, and implies, that he did more then sit around in a dark corner and mope." -Please cite for me where it says. The source you mentioned, The Orc King does not. -We have Drizzt engaging in some battle with Obould II, whenever that was, and then a long, long blank in which nothing is written, until 1,479 DR, when the prologue and epilogue of The Orc King are believed to take place. In order for Drizzt to gain those extra couple of levels, he'd have to do stuff. We have no evidence of him doing anything noteworthy, and as such, why should we assume noteworthy events to be going on? I know that, when I read the paper, or watch the news, and nothing is mentioned about Colombia, I don't assume that Colombia's government has been overthrown. Well LK there you go;) Since the spellplague was a part of the 103 yr jump we now know that Drizzt didn't mope around the entire 103 yrs. -Technically, the Spellplague would happen before the 104 year jump, if you want to consider it a singular event that happened, and then ended. The repercussions of the Spellplague, apparently, continued long after Mystra was killed. The Spellplague took place in 1,385 DR, the last recorded year we have in AGHotR. The timeline was then fast-forwarded to 1,479 DR, leaving 104 years in-between the two dates. -Drizzt's dealings with Cadderly are already covered in The Orc King ("...I saw the greatest cathedral burn...", or whatever, specifically, it was.). We don't know what role Drizzt played in things, but soon, we'll find out. Obviously, Drizzt didn't sit around unmoving for a century- the statement is an exaggeration for the concept that Drizzt did not do anything noteworthy for the time in question to warrant him being given an extra couple of levels, to make him an Epic Level character. |
| #49drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 21:56:21 | -Your statement was: "...It says, and implies, that he did more then sit around in a dark corner and mope." The last time Drizzt was statted do you know what year it was approx?(on Fearun) Was it before The Hunter's Blade Trilogy? |
| #50lord_karsusMar 09, 2009 22:07:08 | The last time Drizzt was statted do you know what year it was approx?(on Fearun) Was it before The Hunter's Blade Trilogy? -His stats, in the FRCS, are his last ones. Because of R.A. Salvatore writing in the past, however, Drizzt's stats in the FRCS are as of 1,372 DR, which would retroactively (or, the opposite of retroactive...futureactive? Whatever...) be applied to what was written in the Hunter's Blade Trilogy, which ended in 1,372 DR. So, in other words, Drizzt's stats in the FRCS (Ftr 10/ Bbn 1 / Rgr 5) are "up-to-date", as of 1,372 DR, unintentionally or intentionally. |

So would what he's acclompished during the first 2 novels of the Transitions Trilogy merit him gaining @ least 1 level making him what around 17 or something? Like I have said before it has been a looooong time since I played(20 yrs) and the mechanics now are quite a bit foreign to me. |
| #52krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 22:21:55 | OK, now do you mean to say that you believe he couldn't get 5 levels in 107 years? |
| #53sfdragonMar 09, 2009 22:30:10 | OK, now do you mean to say that you believe he couldn't get 5 levels in 107 years? yeah he could of, he did fight in the wars against one of rebellious orcs of the many arrows kingdom and there was also thee lvls he could of attained in the hunters blades trilogy. so yes, about 5 lvls he would of gained. there is also the matter of him gaining those 2 lvls of the ecl and la trash going away. he was lvl at 18 no ecl and la during the 2nd edition era. so now he would be atleast lvl 22 |
| #54drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 22:33:00 | OK, now do you mean to say that you believe he couldn't get 5 levels in 107 years? KH, Pardon me for intruding but what LK is saying is that since virtually nothing is known about what Drizzt did during the 103 yrs other than he's alive in 4e is that Drizzt could have been doing anything during that time. Whether it was moping in a cave(unlikely but still possible) to killing deities left and right to avenge the death of his friends(likely :ayyyy! and that we won't know until his story is told;) |
| #55krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 22:34:48 | Right, but he is refuting the idea that Drizzt's could be Epic level... |
| #56drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 22:42:14 | Actually I don't think he is refuting the idea that he could be Epic Level in 4e. I believe he only stated that he isn't now.;) |
| #57krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 22:57:19 | Actually I don't think he is refuting the idea that he could be Epic Level in 4e. I believe he only stated that he isn't now.;) See, that's the thing, we don't know what level he is 'now' (as in 1479 DR). The most we can do is speculate... and it is myopic indeed to think that he isn't, most likely, Epic level by now. That was the only point I was trying to make. |
| #58drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 23:10:17 | See, that's the thing, we don't know what level he is 'now' (as in 1479 DR). Ah. I'm with you KH, being a Drizzt fan I have no doubt that he's gained at least 3 or 4 levels by 1479. But since RAS hasn't written any novels about Drizzt and his companions in 4e(except the Prologue and Epilogue in "The Orc King" ) the 'now' as it refers to Drizzt's stats is 3.5e as he is only statted up to The Hunter's Blades trilogy. Because as far as I know no stats have came out in regards to him in 4e.;) I think that is where the confusion between you 2 started. You're seeing Drizzt in 4e terms(which there is very little known) and LK is still seeing Drizzt in 3.5e(which since no real knowledge is known about Drizzt's stats in 4e,3.5e has to be considered present time and canon for Drizzt's stats). |
| #59drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 23:14:34 | KH,LK. I hope I'm not missinterpreting your viewpoints. If I am it is completely unintentional. |
| #60krownhunter07Mar 09, 2009 23:17:58 | (which since no real knowledge is known about Drizzt's stats in 4e,3.5e has to be considered present time and canon for Drizzt's stats). Canon, of course. present time, no... present is 4e, 1479 DR. |
| #61drizztsmanchildMar 09, 2009 23:26:26 | Lol Sorry I wasn't talking about Drizzt as a person when I meant "present time" I meant his stats. If you're using Drizzt as an NPC in 4e in a game today then you would have to use his current/present 3.5e stats as his stats while playing him.;) Unless you changed them as the DM |
| #62RUMPLESTIXMar 10, 2009 0:25:55 | Slightly off-topc, but: Ok, then it wouldn't work for the dead old deity (of my creation) which died at the hands of the primordial (of my creation) to be Mielikki's father. ![]() There could still be the awakening primordial and the twin scimitar's of a deceased god though. ![]() |
| #63_jarlaxle_Mar 10, 2009 4:58:17 | OK, now do you mean to say that you believe he couldn't get 5 levels in 107 years? not by killing pathetic orcs ;) |

So would what he's acclompished during the first 2 novels of the Transitions Trilogy merit him gaining @ least 1 level making him what around 17 or something? Like I have said before it has been a looooong time since I played(20 yrs) and the mechanics now are quite a bit foreign to me. -A character who is 16th Level gains Experience Points for doing battle with and killing something that is CR 8 or lower. If the remnants of the army that Obould put together were over CR 8- and one or two of them probably were, but that is only one or two of them- the Silver Marches would have been utterly doomed, as they would not have been able to face off against a Horde of Orcs in which the lowest CR was 8. Throw in, the the couple of random monsters that he did battle with, along with his allies (who also would get Experience Points from those encounters). -Assuming that he is at exactly 120,000 EXP, the amount needed to be 16th Level, he'd need an additional 70,000 EXP to get to at least 20th Level, which is at 190,000 EXP. Given what facts we know, that take into account what we know he's done in The Transitions books, and what is said in the prologue and epilogue of The Orc King, without arbitrarily making things up, there is an extremely low possibility that he has done enough over the transitory 104 years to attain 20th Level or more. The few instances that we know of happening would not seem to yield 90,000 EXP. |
| #66krownhunter07Mar 10, 2009 11:21:08 | See, xp works differently in 4e... |
| #67lord_karsusMar 10, 2009 11:35:32 | -We're using 3e Drizzt stats and as such, the 3e rules. Drizzt doesn't have 4e stats, so we can't apply 4e rules. |
| #68drizztsmanchildMar 10, 2009 12:10:36 | s] Show Ok what i do know is that in "TPK"(second book in Transitions series) he did face down and defeat @ least one arch-mage and a few mages from the Hottstower as well as a few ?0 when the Arch-lich sent him to a plane in the abyss. |
| #69zaeshirMar 10, 2009 12:34:12 | -We're using 3e Drizzt stats and as such, the 3e rules. Drizzt doesn't have 4e stats, so we can't apply 4e rules. This is where I have a problem with the discussion. The fact is if we ever get stats (unlikely) for a post-spellplague Drizzt, they will be 4e stats (and likely 4e NPC stats, which differ from 4e PC stats). Jarlaxle is a 21 Elite Skirmisher according to the Compendium. I'd place Drizzt just about the same level. Utimately this argument is pointless because you are thinking of things in terms of 3.x (and there is nothing wrong with this) but those of us arguing that Drizzt is now epic are thinking in terms of 4e. And truthfully if I were to guess Drizzts level post-spellplague in 3.x terms, I'd say he might be a level or so higher, but not yet epic. 3.x has a different level progression curve than 4e does. |
| #70drizztsmanchildMar 10, 2009 21:26:47 | Trust me(and I'm stating this as fact or "canon" as the term is used here) If there's any aspect of the 4e realms that will be fully explained it will be Drizzt(whether it will be by Ras or someone else remains to be seen). He will be statted in 4e, his story will be completely told. He's way to popular among the fans and the people who just buy the books to see if he dies so they can pop that bottle of Dom 85 to celebrate....errr...I mean mourn his passing. |
| #71crossroads_wandererMar 10, 2009 22:28:30 | Ok, then it wouldn't work for the dead old deity (of my creation) which died at the hands of the primordial (of my creation) to be Mielikki's father. Jarlaxle is also listed as an "Elite" which makes him the equivilent of two monsters for purposes of designing a 4e encounter. How is that accounted for in terms of levels? I just don't think you can necessarily do a direct translation from 3rd Edition to 4th Edition in terms of stats. |

It is something, that follows a modicum of design logic, as opposed to nothing. Fine, I'll accept level 18 for now. Probably a level 18 elite skirmisher at that, much like Jarlaxle given that Drizzt's PC class (ranger) is a striker under 4e rules. That being said, I still don't think we'll ever see stats. The designers have been so wary of giving good-aligned NPCs stats this time around. |
| #78lord_karsusMar 11, 2009 14:51:05 | -It was one of the specific goal to not have stats in the main book, so, if any, they'd probably appear in a DDI article, or something to that effect. |

The print DRAGON magazine did that a bunch, with printed stats for the characters from the War of the Spider Queen being printed roughly in conjunction with the releases of all of those books. Salvatore's Transitions trilogy, so far, haven't fully touched upon the Spellplague, and bringing Drizzt into the "new" Forgotten Realms, and all of that, but presumably, his next book trilogy, if any, will. If so, I'd expect to see something in the vein of stats or whatever roughly corresponding with those new books. |

| #82Elrik_DarkstormMar 11, 2009 19:37:53 | Hey all I am just adding something to the part of the thread to where people were saying that Drizzt is not well known.I do not have any hard facts or quotes that says that he is well known, but i thought about this for a little bit, there are bards in the realms who travel around the lands arent there and they tell stories and sing songs and i am sure that there has to be atleast a couple of stories floating around with Drizzt mentioned in them(ie. pirate hunting on the Sea Sprite,The drow attack on Mithral Hall, the taking down of a pasha in Calimport,Hooking up with Cadderly and doing whatever they do you get the gist of what i am saying). This is just my 2 cents to put in this topic. Thank you all and have a great night.Piece out |
| #83lord_karsusMar 11, 2009 20:28:35 | -Drizzts exploits, in the grand scheme of things, are inconsequential. The only thing that makes him distinct is that he is a Drow. This is the only thing that gains him some notoriety, and again, the extent of that notoriety is fairly limited, being centralized in the Icewind Dale region, and lessening as it radially extends outwards. We already have evidence in other novels that Drizzt is more legend than actual person in the Silver Marches region, which isn't all that far from Icewind Dale. Extend that to more exotic locales- Thay, Chult, Kara-Tur, Halruaa, Lurien- and you've got nothing. A person fighting Orcs, or fighting pirates, is a fairly mundane thing. The only thing that raises eyebrows is the Drow part. |
| #84drizztsmanchildMar 11, 2009 23:38:20 | Well the Realms are quite different in 4e(I know obvious right) Lore could have easily been lost Bards could be completely different(Are there Bards in 4e) tales mistold etc. History again is written by the winners(i.e. people in power etc...). But what I do know is that Drizzt is known from Icewind Dale to Carradoon which is if i recall quite a bit of distance. Heck even from Icewind dale to Calimport is over 2000 miles. He's known in Waterdeep(perhaps the most famous city in Faerun) and as I stated before he is even known in Evermeet. To say he isnt widely known in 3.5e is not precise. Rather to say he isnt "worldly" known is more precise. And you're right LK the only reason his exploits are revelant is because he's a Drow doing those things. As far as comparing him to Jarlaxles level.....of course Jarlaxle is going to higher because isn't Jarlaxle centuries older than Drizzt and therefore has done more? |

He is well known possibly in Luskan now, as well. He was in Calimport once (twice?). He isn't widely known in Calimshan. Remember, most of the populace of Faerûn doesn't know who Elminster or Khelben are, and both are extremely more "widespread" and "renowned", for multiple reasons, than Drizzt. -Can you provide a citation that says he is known in Evermeet, by the way? What book/sourcebook is that in? I don't recall reading anything like that. *Note, when I say "is known", obviously certain leaders, notables, and so on know in theory of him. When I say, "Is well known", that implies that the general populace of where ever it is knows of him, in more of a capacity than a theoretical name with theoretical deeds. The people of Icewind Dale, or Mithral Hall, for example, know Drizzt, some of them personally, and have "felt" his effect on their respective homes. |

BTW: Now that I've thought about it some more it wasn't the Elf Lords of Evermeet that were mentioned it was the Elf lords of Luskan. Salvatore wasn't going to write Forgotten Realms novels anymore, because of contract problems. Anthony was given Drizzt (hence his short story with Drizzk and/or Zaknafein). Salvatore returned, and was "given Drizzt back", so the book never made it. |

How many people of any race played such a big part in the reclamation of Mithral hall, the fall of the archmage of Luskan, or, as you said pirate hunting. He plays second fiddle in all of those adventures, but he's still important to them for more than his race. Also, Duedermont's famous all across the Sea of Swords, and who could fail to mention Drizzt when his name comes up? And Mithral Hall has widespread fame and trade connections as well, do you think any dwarf in Faerun could be ignorant of his role in reclaming it? Even Athrogate had heard of him prior to their battle (although Jarlaxle could have told him, but he doesn't seem the type to spread such information, or any information, needlessly) |
| #94NolwelenNov 23, 2009 17:09:17 | Seeing as how Icingdeath can apparently one-shot a balor... I'd say Drizzt already has at least one artifact level weapon. :D LOL, yes and it saves him from nearly every inferno, no matter of which proportions. But I guess we are supposed to think:"The weapon doesn't make the man." Now consider reasons why Drizzt and nearly all of his "former" (I love the sound of this) comrades got equipment from the upper end of the spectra, while they still had been low-level characters. I guess if you have no "man" behind it, you need all the "weapon" you can get. ;) Btw, I said "former" comrades because they are all dead. Dead, you know! Read it from my lips:"D-E-A-D, DEAD!" ![]() |
| #95me25Nov 23, 2009 20:08:56 | gotta love that kind of enthusiasm, even if it is joy at the death of everyone Drizzt ever knew and cared for. However, I would like to point out that even before Drizzt got his uber-1337 scimitars, he was still considered one of the greatest swordsman in Menzoberranzan (second only to his dad, who died because no one is allowed to be better than Drizzt). Also, I don't think his scimitars are an unfair advantage, they merely level the playing field against enemies such as fire elementals which he otherwise literally could not hit. At least he's not Regis; Regis really is useless without the magic amulet he "aquired" from that pasha. |

Btw, who do you think is left? Drow like Jarlaxle obviously, but do you think Artemis is still around because of that shadow/shade-soul-stealing-through-dagger-thing? It's possible that priest whats-his-name (Cadderly? too many C and D names in this series) is still alive too, since he was aging backwards. |
