I also have played around with increasing Thayen corruption on other lands, making them increasingly a very poltical threat which a sword blow wouldn't nessery solve. What would you have done? |

In my campaign the Realms are still in the 1350s-1370s years, though I don't know how many would agree for the timeline to stay put at that time frame without advancing (like Eberron). I will wholeheartedly embrace the new 4th edition Realms though and try it out nonetheless. |

Tht said, there are many who support the novel line being seperated from the gaming line. Should that happen, the "living" factor of the setting slows dramatically. |

I agree with developing the areas more. And I think WotC was actually trying to do this a bit more recently. What I feel is the problem is that they let the success of the novels dictate too much of where they spend their time. I mean, look at how much time books have spent in the Underdark since Sojourn went bestseller--novels as well as supplements. I got completely turned off by the whole scene there for a long while. I personally need to see what the magic system is now like before I could really say how I would've steered the ship though. Maybe it realy did need something this earthshaking to make it happen. Doubt it--but maybe. |

Advance the world 10 or 20 years. Made Nethril rise like they are currently doing. Kept Halruaa as a balance but I would make the place more Playable. Maybe keep the merc spellcaster deal they have in mind. Retired high level characters but kept EL around as a mysterious sage. Keep him unstatted. Give descriptions of about 30 or 40 gods and then talk about their "agents" or saints in web articles. Only Greater gods would appear in the main book. Selune would get big "push" to balance Shar and Mystra's death. Made the Zhents take over portions of the Dales. Make them more polytheistic and limit Banes cholehold or the organization. I would also make Bane into a god more people would choose to worship. Detailed the pirate areas more and the other continents never touched. I like the loss of Maztica and Unther and Mulhorndi. I would "push" the Moonshaes more because I like that place. I would have detailed the Utter East more as well. That is not all of it but it is all I could think of. |
