Hello! Please pardon me If this information is already posted here somewhere. I am fairly new, and have not had any luck finding a topic that held a great deal of info regarding this subject. I would like to make an Illithid Body Tamer and was wondering If anyone had information pertinent to them in D&D 4th edition , or could point me in the right direction for finding out about them? Thank you in advance!
I'm afraid I can't really help you as is. However, the 4E Underdark sourcebook is due out next year, and it's bound to discuss Illithids to some length. There's always the chance it will appear there. So if you don't find a homebrew version somewhere on these boards, you're not necessarily out of options.
-The main thing is that they don't use their Psionic powers, and instead focus on their abilities with their tentacles. I don't know how 4e handled Mindflayers, but a Body Tamer would mainly focus on the physical aspects of being an Illithid, as opposed to their Psionic abilities. Their tentacles get stronger (doing more damage, and gaining extra reach), they can trip with them, disarm with them, do whirlwind attacks with them, and eventually (10th Level) do a death attack with them.
-To make one up yourself, it should be fairly easy on the strengthening of the tentacles, and the tripping/disarming stuff. You might hit a snag with the death attack, because, as far as I know, 4e doesn't utilize things that instantly kill you anymore. You could replace that maybe with a debilitating death attack, or maybe something that targets stats, maybe.

Ah , Thank you , I was not aware that there isn't much on them for 4th edition yet. In the meantime , If anyone even has info on them in one of the more recent previous editions , I could work with that for now.

The Body Tamers are from Oryndoll (Sp?), a specific city in Faerûn's Underdark, and they're pretty atypical as far as Mind Flayers go. Maybe a 4e online article about Faerûn's Underdark, might mention them and provide official stats, if you're lucky.

Going by the "everything is core" philosophy embraced in 4E, I'd say there's a chance they might appear in the book, though not necessarily in great detail. True, they're esoteric all things considered, but it wouldn't surprise me if the designers scoured FR's Underdark for core ideas (or are considering it).
