#2 iakhovas Jul 06, 2009 22:42:45	The Srinshee was born a moon elf (so sayeth Ed Greenwood in the Annotated Elminster Collection p.580) but she has a penchant for appearing as other subraces. See Realms of the Elves, p.264-266, wherein she shifts her appearance several times, as the Knights watch.
#3 markustay63 Jul 07, 2009 8:49:27	Yes. Her nature was changed so that she is now "of ALL the Elves", and of no particular sub-group (she even appeared as a Drow!) Which means she can be described differently in different sources and it is still consistent - it is how she is appearing at the time.

It would have made an intersting possibility for 4e... maybe even a good one. Effectively taking him out of play (he's dead!), but still of-use to DMs who still want him around.

No longer a Chosen, reduced in power...just letting the days go by in Shadowdale for any DM to use as a bit of lore or a source of lore to his/her players for their campaign? Was pointless to kill off so many of the old Chosen randomly as they did, let them relax a little!

If more was written about her, I'm sure I'd warm up to the character. Isn't that essentially what he is now? According to designers in interviews before the FRCG was published, Elminster was also a little crazier (than he was already), and was handicapped in some way concerning spellcasting. While the FRCG does not say anything on the matter, the designers' statements are not contradicted, and Elminster, presumably, is as was described in those interviews/previews.
#11 markustay63 Jul 09, 2009 22:40:13	I just think as a ghost - basically a very old and knowledgable 'character' with no ready means to physically act on the world (except VERY locally) - he would be the ultimate 'gimped' uber-NPC. Completely useful to DMs, and completely useless to PCs (even as a 'target'). And besides, think of how much fun the Old Mage would have, walking thorugh walls, and manifesting in girl's locker rooms (or the FR equivalent - Calishite harems). :D He would be the ultimate Peeping Tom! I think the old goat has earned at least that much. Besides, there is a president for it - Mystra's 'Watch Ghosts'.
#12 lord_karsus Jul 09, 2009 22:43:07	-That'd be a "nice" punishment for Elminster, or any other individual who 'meddles' too much- being fully coherent and all of that, but existing on a different wave length, such that he (or whoever else) would be able to see and comprehend everyone around him (or whoever else), but everyone else would not be able to see and comprehend him (or whoever else).

When I recenlty re-read that book (I read it years ago, before I was a realms fan), I was flabbergasted by how much the story sounded like your description, and had assumed you had one of those crypto-amnesia things you are so fond of mentioning. So this was simply a case of parellel development, eh? Still, that story could have (or pehaps should have) taken place in Rose Keep. Instead, it takes place within a Keep (Castle Stone) within Cormyr that is NOT part of Cormyr - somehow, the Lord of the Keep managed to keep his autonomy despite Cormyr being all around him. When I place it, I'll make sure its on the border (and keep it true to the text as well). Its also fairly easy to assume the story took place quite awhile ago, probably before the annexation of Tilverton (which moved Cormyr's border north quite a bit). Ergo, considering the events in the story and the possible timeframe, I would assume that it is now part of Cormyr (whatever edition you happen to be playing in).
