#1 wolfberg Sep 15, 2010 19:46:17	So far I only know this not so detailled map of Faerun from the "Forgotten Realms Campaing Guide", and I must say I abhorr this version. Being a hobby cartographer myself, I find it much inferior compared to the detail of the good Faerun maps of the previous setting. I wonder if anyone knows a better source or if WotC plans some better and more accurate and detailled maps. This one is barely functional.
#2 dm_trandahl Sep 15, 2010 19:48:40	I couldn't agree more! I stick to the various old FR 2nd Edition maps myself. But my campaigns take place in 2nd edition Realms so it's easier for me. I'm not sure about the post Spellplague era?
#3 wolfberg Sep 15, 2010 20:21:21	Good riddance, just for the fun I overlayed the 3e and 4e Faerun maps in Photoshop, and it does not fit at all! You might think if you rezise it so that the distance and location of Athkatla and Luskan are the same, the other cities should be as well, but FAR from it. All so so sketchy and wrong. Ok I admit map making is a fixation of mine, heh, but this 4e map is so lacking. *sad panda* Pls hire a good cartographer, Wizards!

#5 The_Silversword Sep 16, 2010 2:07:40	Just dont overlay the 1st and/or 2nd edition maps with the 3e one, its way off. I think the 4e fits better with the 3e one, some places do match up, but yeah some are way off, of course theres a resonable explanation for this, The Spellplauge!!! Makes perfect sense to me. Why dont the 2e maps match up with the 3e one? Nobody knows, The Realms just spontaneosly shrunk and nobody noticed. Hey it only took us a week to get to Waterdeep this time! The gods must of smiled on us! Sorry thats a little pet peeve of mine, one of the reasons I dont mind 4e so much, at least they tried to explain why things were suddenly all different. Sorry Im getting off topic here, yes there have been some nicer, more detailed maps of the Realms in various issues of Dragon and Dungeon, these are regional maps how ever and not of the whole Realms. But some of them are real nice. Heres one of Cormyr that I think looks cool, and I believe that article is still avaiable as a free download, im dont remember what issue it was from but if you check out gomeztoo's DDI articles thread in the Realmslore section, he lists it in there. IM also hopin there will be more maps in the new Neverwinter Campaign book when it comes out, Id love to see a 4e Realms atlas, full of city maps, I think 4e Realms has a real shortage of city maps.

The 4E map for FR is proof that grey and green oozes do wipe their backsides. [/rhetorical question] I actually really like the 4E version of FR, just as I liked every version since the original grey box. I'm certain that decent maps would have attracted more fans, especially those who, like me, originally disliked the revised setting. Decent maps would have gone a long way toward people giving the setting a second chance, IMO.
