I think the FRPG may clear this up.

-If you consider 'Eladrin' to be Sun/Moon/Star Elves, then yes, yes there would be Half-Eladrin in the setting, as there are many Half-Elves of Sun/Moon Elf ancestry running around (Star Elves, not so much). Arilyn Moonblade, for example, would be among them.

So is anyone citing the book, or are these just potshots? I think the OP wanted to know if there was a designated starting race / stat mods for them.

Not until the FRPG comes out.

And even then, its just a maybe.

Moon elves are now eladrin? What are regular elves?

And how many elf races are there in 4e Forgotten Realms? My friend and I have a bet.

To save LK the trouble... For info on all things elven in the FR see Elves of Faerun
As for moon elves vs other elves...
Moon, Sun and Star elves are Eladrin (but still called by their subrace)
Wild and Wood elves are Elves
Drow are Drow, except for a few which have been changed and are now Dark Elves.

That's all 3.X. As I said, I'm looking for 4e info.

That's what I was looking for. So we'll see write up for five 'elves'?

The elven subraces and lore are still the same as 3.x, just using Eladrin as a name for some of them in core.

Only 3 so far, they might include a write-up for dark-elves, but so far that isn't certain. And no word yet on aquatic elves or Leshay or Avariels.

While I only know a bit of the Realms, I'm not sure that's possible. Where are you getting that information?

Take the first bit on info on the Sun Elves:
Regions: Evermeet, The North, Silverymoon, Western Heartlands
Racial Feats: Gift of Tongues
Racial Prestige Classes: Arcane Archer, Bladesinger, Champion of Corellon Larethian, Elven High Mage

Are we sure those are still their regions? Eladrin as presented 4e don't really have nations.

The racial feat might be right but there are no prestige classes any more.

Before the Sun Elves came to Realmspace, we lived in the mythical land known as Faerie, alongside all other Elves.

Faerie would now be the Feywild and they're still living there. As a great deal of Sun Elf history is based on them being unable to return to Faerie, wouldn't their history change?

Through the use of magic, including Elven High Magic, our cities grew more mystical, more magical.

Does Elven High Magic still exist?

Powerful Dragon kings and queens ruled the continent, at the time. The Elves slowly began to carve out their own niche in this new world, but their efforts were hampered more often than not by these greedy Wyrm barons.

Still Dragons? Or, dragonborn now?

The information is from these boards as well as the snippets we have gotten from WotC. They have clearly stated that the subraces of elves in the realms will be unchanged. Yes the regions have changed a bit, but Sun elves will still think of themselves as Sun elves, it is a metagame idea that they are Eladrin now. The Feywild is closer to the realms now, and Evermeet has been moved to the Feywild, so Elves can go back and forth now.

Not every last bit of the old lore is valid, some prestige classes will still work as paragon paths, some will become epic destinies (High Mage for example). But Elves will be elves. The lore of the elves itself won't have changes, except in very minor ways, only the rules that they live by will be different.

Elven High Magic still exists, as do Mythals and Moonblades. Time has moved forward 100 years, and the magic system has changed, as well as the changes to the Divine Realm, but history itself is still the same. And the elves, not being as tied to Mystra, probably held on to their traditional forms of magic, or at least regained them, much easier than did the humans or other races. Especially since their main god came through all of the changes with little or no damage done.

I forget where I read it, but I was under the impression that Dark Elves would also be considered Elves. So...

Star Elves/Sun Elves/Moon Elves = Eladrin (PHB pg. 38)
Wood Elves/Wild Elves/Dark Elves = Elf (PHB pg. 40)

Moon elves are now eladrin?

-In D&D statistics, only. In the setting, they are still known as Moon Elves. They just use the 'Eladrin' stats.

What are regular elves?

-Again, going by the 4e D&D stats, 'Elves' would be in the Forgotten Realms Wood Elves and 'Wild' Elves.

And how many elf races are there in 4e Forgotten Realms? My friend and I have a bet.

-Nine:

Avariel
Lythari
Wood Elves
Wild Elves
Sun Elves
Moon Elves
Star Elves
Aquatic Elves
Drow Elves

-Yes. Sun Elves still inhabit these places.

-Prestige Classes are now Paragon Paths.

Faerie would now be the Feywild and they're still living there. As a great deal of Sun Elf history is based on them being unable to return to Faerie, wouldn't their history change?

-Faerie is the Feywild. That said, their history on Faerûn isn't one of a group stranded and lost. The first Sun Elves came to Realmspace fleeing a magical catastrophe that wiped out their kingdom, Tintageer. As such, it is about settlers settling a new land.

Does Elven High Magic still exist?

-Lorewise, yes. Mechanically, right now, nothing exists to represent it, but Rich has a Elven High Magic DDI article that will eventually be released.

Still Dragons? Or, dragonborn now?

-Yes, still Dragons.

-Yes. AGHotR retconned Dark Elves as being not their own distinct Elven subrace, but simply a branch of the Green Elves. As such, when the Drow who were eligible for transformation did so, they became Dark Elves once more. Dark Elves who are simply a branch of the Green Elves. Thus, they use the stats that Green Elves use, which would be those of 'Elves'.

Wouldn't that be ten with Dark Elves?
Also at one time wasn't there a differentiation between salt (Sea Elves) and freshwater (Aquatic Elves)?

okay thank you this answers my question, your stats don't change nor your selection of feats but your father or mother can still be a sun elf or moon elf if desired,so you would take on physical traits just not anything else.

-No. As I said, AGHotR retconned the Dark Elves as being not their own distinct Elven subrace, but simply a branch of the Green Elves. So, Dark Elves = Green Elves (Wood/'Wild' Elves)

Also at one time wasn't there a differentiation between salt (Sea Elves) and freshwater (Aquatic Elves)?

-There are differences yes (the most obvious being the ability to thrive in salt water and fresh water), but these differences never merited the two being separate Elven subraces.

Yep, same as always, doesn't matter which subrace of elf your parent is, you are a half-elf.

-Right. I think Half-Drow had different stats, though. I know they had a separate entry in Races of Faerûn, so...

True. I thought that was because the Drow were far enough away from elves, genetically, that even their half-human offspring were a little different.

Dude. You can't even be serious about this. After the 10 page debate concerning elven evolution we had on this a few months ago?

-I was aware of all of that. I've prefaced that statement, as well as the inclusion of Wood Elves in RoF, with the denotation that I do not accept these "continuitically" impossible retcons.

To better suit yourself than the outcome of potential possibilities?

Once we get down to this level--with a "new" race altogether--I need sources. Tell me the page on aGHotR that backs this up and any other sources you may have.

This makes no sense to me.

-The "Wild" Elves are the Green Elves (Of course, at this point, why are they "Wild"). The Wood Elves don't exist yet.
