| #1JudgeDookieFeb 03, 2010 23:42:11 | Alright…Karsus was supposed to start this crap up again, but he conveniently told me that I should, then disappeared into the sunset. So be it. Anyway, here we go…. Since reading material is slim these days, beggars can’t be choosers. So I picked this thing up so I could pass my time in the bathroom more enjoyably ( FTR, I only smoke in my bathroom, so I spend more time there than the average Dookie). Quite frankly, after having read Ghostwalker, I questioned why I would want to subject myself to another work of the same author again. I simply figured that—if I am going to be near the toilet when I read it—I wouldn’t have far to run and vomit if things made me nauseated. Either way, I read it in shorter time than expected to. I was either A) eating too many bean burritos; B) smoking too much; or C) enjoying the damn book. I imagine it was a mix of A and B with me using some of the pages of the book as TP to arrive at the possibility of C. For the most part, I thought the level of writing was pretty much improved over his last book. I got a lot more into both the story and his characters than I did with his previous one. But I found—again—the quick transition of his characters emotions and actions to be unwarranted and ill defined. It seemed to me that he expected the reader to actually feel the character as he did, rather than trying to explain to the reader why the character graduated to such a state or acted in the manner as they had. This also flowed into the action sequences he wrote of as well. It was pretty much like he expected the reader to see the setting he had in his mind, rather than trying to describe it in any length prior to making it the stage of importance. I had rooms I pictured as small blow up ten fold and dark caverns suddenly bright as day as I tried to follow the action. In both aspects, I was continually flipping back pages to try and figure why something transpired when it did—I simply found no basis for it. As for the story, when I first caught on to what ESdB was doing, I fishizzled—literally. I mean, I was on the I couldn’t believe I was going to continue reading on, but it suddenly occurred to me that ESdB was actually doing something unique—at least in the realm of FR novels. And, had he continued along the Dark Knight/Man of Steel thing more fully, I probably would have ended up enjoying this book far more than I did. Unfortunately, the premise he created for the book didn’t fit for the characters he created for it. They—and their stories—all quickly outgrew the constraints that were created and became something that would need additional novels to explore. The story intended was completely lost in pursuit of the characters he looked to grow. While I don’t fault him for this—what author doesn’t want to see his characters as something more than a simple snapshot in a single novel?—his quest to make them something greater completely ripped gaping holes into what his story started out to be. Either he knew he was going to get expanded coverage on these characters or he was banking on it, ‘Cause, by Bejebuz and the Great Taco, if this ends where Butt Boy jumps out the window, it will be a horribly put together story. Overall, this book didn’t suck as much as I wanted it to. But it will absolutely suck if it is not the precedence for at least another novel to clear up the unresolved issues it created in this one. My take? I give it 2 fingers and 4 moons: And, yes, I AM CENSORED SO DEAL WITH IT!!!
P.S. For Ed Greenwood’s introduction to the book, where he apparently states this of his own free will: “Gosh, I wish I had known these characters earlier. I’m buying four copies of this book. I know I am going to wear them out reading Downshadow over and over.” Give me a 5 fingers and 5 moons!!! |

| #3The_SilverswordFeb 04, 2010 2:52:14 | Well im not sure if i should read this one or not. Did JD just give it a good review? He did say it wasnt as bad as he thought it was going to be, thats like high praise coming from him! Still i'll have to check out this one and the other Waterfeep novels, I love Waterdeep, heck, who doesnt? |
| #4sfdragonFeb 04, 2010 13:41:47 | I enjoyed the book. but then I'm the Helmite here |
| #518DELTAFeb 04, 2010 17:07:30 | I enjoyed it myself, and I am the Friendly Neighborhood Cyricist.![]() |
| #6Harn_WinterfellFeb 04, 2010 18:59:08 | How about some reviews where you don't feel the need to throw about crude phrases and other thinly veiled vulgarities? I don't know about everyone else but I know that I don't find it amusing in the least. I can only imagine what anyone that bothers coming to the FR forums anymore and that may be a new person looking for creative ideas and the like comes away with after bearing witness to such "posts". |
| #7sfdragonFeb 04, 2010 20:14:35 | each teir own personalities..... atleast he censored himself. I just ignore it. |
| #818DELTAFeb 04, 2010 22:32:45 | So...why did you post in this thread then sf?![]() Lets turn this into a spamm thread! |
| #9sfdragonFeb 04, 2010 22:49:16 | So...why did you post in this thread then sf? you know, thats a good question. but if you want another good question, why'd you bother to ask. begins ignoreing thread now and no, lets dont. JD might get the ORCs after us |
| #10JudgeDookieFeb 05, 2010 0:42:13 | and I conveniently am tell you thaqt you dont have to the reviews. Well, my man, I can take that one of two ways. What exactly were you trying to impart there? I'm (hiccup) dunk and (hiccup) cert tipe!! (hiccup) Or, Im completely sober and here to confuse the hell out of you. ;) Well im not sure if i should read this one or not. Did JD just give it a good review? He did say it wasnt as bad as he thought it was going to be, thats like high praise coming from him! Still i'll have to check out this one and the other Waterfeep novels, I love Waterdeep, heck, who doesnt? Well, I already PMed you on this, but, for the other "readers" I'll explain my rating system:The more your story sux, the more fingers you get. The more your writing sux (creating a cohesive story and believable characters) the more moons you get. I enjoyed the book. Yeah, I actually thought you'd dig it. I found that one of the biggest highlights of the book was the "three-faced god". That's been the juiciest piece of Realmslore I read yet. |
| #11DiffanFeb 05, 2010 1:47:58 | Well the thread has Book Bashing in the title, so when I read it I wasn't expecting a glorified response filled with praises for the novel lol. I haven't read the book yet and judging by the review (which I'm still confused by) it seems the story was decent or at least average while the writing style was sub-par by Dookie's estimation. But then I take reviews with a grain of salt considering I usually like stories/books/movies (yes, I liked GIjoe) that most people don't or they get bad reviews. And this is JudgeDookie's thread so of course it's going to be filled with vulgarities, crass humor, and a unique flare for the dramatic lol. It's just the way he is. But on a side note, I think I fall into the "creative people" category and I think I do alot of good for the FR community here and other FR-sites. No offense taken though and I'm actually looking to your next review. ![]() |
| #12The_SilverswordFeb 05, 2010 1:54:50 | Ninjad by Diffan! Still he makes a pretty good point and pretty much what i was going to say. JD does have a certain way about that some people may find offensive, but at least he is honest. The thread title does pretty much give it away. He did take time out of his day to share his thoughts on the book, you might not agree with him, and i dont think he was all that offensive, he has been toning it down latly, believe it or not. |
| #13sfdragonFeb 05, 2010 8:15:19 | no offeneded either. but it is confusing...... atleast Lord KArsus's thing with the beholders was easy enough to understand.... |
| #14eriksdbFeb 05, 2010 12:13:46 | Well, he did seem to pick purposefully offensive language. But then again, it is very funny, so lol, JD. ![]() I think in order to get the most out of any review, you have to read between the lines, and while JD may not like my writing style or appreciate how I (like every author ever) tried to bring my characters to life for my readers*, he does seem to have genuinely enjoyed the novel, at least on some level. And that, I take as high praise in a thread whose very title doesn't allow for positivity. ![]() (*Which seems like really strange criticism indeed, since, as noted, every author ever does that.) I do want to point out that yes, the Batman parallel is there, but I didn't want to write "Batman" all over again. (If you really want that story, go watch Batman Begins and the Dark Knight.) Instead, I wanted to use a similar theme: a fundamentally good person--in this case a paladin--who becomes a vigilante, fighting a single-handed war on evil. Why did I do it this way? Honestly, because that's the story I wanted to tell, and because the trope is so strong that it demanded to be utilized. How you feel about that is up to you; I for one am damn proud of my work. So there. ![]() Cheers |
| #15DiffanFeb 05, 2010 13:01:50 | A paladin vigilante huh? Well I'm hooked and I'll be sure to pick up the novel and give it a go. I think I've also read a short story of yours Erik, "The Greatest Treasure" which featured an elf who reclaimed Ynloeth's Bracer? If that's correct, then I found it to be a pretty good read. It also put into perspective as to who had the bracer and where it was, which I used for my one campaign. Unfortunately for that character, he died in a drow raid and the bracer fell into their hands. |
| #16eriksdbFeb 05, 2010 13:39:57 | A paladin vigilante huh? Well I'm hooked and I'll be sure to pick up the novel and give it a go. Well, I hope you like it, and I would be happy to answer any questions or take part in any discussion it raises, as well as appreciate any feedback you might have to offer. You are indeed on the mark ("The Greater Treasure," in the Realms of the Elves anthology), and woe is elvendom when such a dire fate befalls! Just so as not to interfere with your game in any canonical way, it is quite possible (even likely) that more than one Ynloeth's Bracer was created, as the magic of the item is not as difficult to duplicate as that of the Shattering Swords (which form a unique pair). It isn't outside the realm of possibility that Ynloeth gave protective bracers to his bodyguards as well, y'know, so he wouldn't turn them into elf frappe when he triggered the swords' ability. And whether Yldar (in my story) discovered the original bracer or not, who knows? His intention thereafter was to take it back to Evermeet, 'cuz it belongs in a museum, and all that. Whether he was waylaid on the path or the bracer was stolen or otherwise fell into different hands, I leave to speculation. Ahem. Sorry. Off topic. ![]() Cheers |
| #17merrikcaleFeb 05, 2010 14:45:10 | I liked the book myself. Although I am a huge fan of Mr de Bie's previous work, especially Depths of Madness which is one of my personal favorite Realms stories. I thought this one was in line with Ghostwalker. That is, overall pretty good. About a B in my opinion In fact, the main was a little reminsicent to the ghostwalker. And like that book, its really the secondary characters that shine. At least to me. For example, Rath is a whole lot of fun as a bad guy. |
| #18merrikcaleFeb 05, 2010 14:47:13 | I think I've also read a short story of yours Erik, "The Greatest Treasure" which featured an elf who reclaimed Ynloeth's Bracer? I missed this last night, Let's be clear on this: I don't get the ORCS on ANYONE--people like 18D does. Why the hell do I get banned all the time if I am such a friend of ORCS?
Dif, my apologies if I offended. My "creative" comment was meant be more personal than general. I knew the comment would be more or less deleted and I more or less banned before it reached the light of day, so I wasn't too worried about it. Everyone here is creative in their own right. I just don't enjoy people who proclaim it as something that is holier than thou. Any ill feelings you may have after that, then feel free to PM me. I'll apologize profusely, kiss your feet, then deny it ever happened--like John Edwards--until you produce DNA evidence that it ACTUALLY happened. ![]() Well, he did seem to pick purposefully offensive language. But then again, it is very funny, so lol, JD. What? Like I am your personal clown or something? ![]() Anyway, 'bout time you showed up. I was getting bored with my dreams of dead chipmunks
Playoffs!? Playoffs!? Don't talk about playoffs!!! Erik, your characters could--quite Bejebuz-like--rock. My question is: Why don't they? This is what I speak of in the review--are these characters something you know are going to be expanded upon, or are you just banking on it? Is this just your evil plot to confound simpletons like me and get a book deal done???!!
Oh, don't expect me to cry for you, Mr Author-Type-Person--don't you EVER!! 'Cause I'll fart purple turds before I show pity for you, buddy-oh-pal!! Oh, yeah, I will!! ![]() Ignore the four moons I gave you for your writing (which is intricately tied to the story, I may add) and note my comments on your story. What was my biggest issue with that? The fact that you left big, gaping holes in everything. I thought you took something completely unique and original into FR, but simply ended things without answers. So, we simply end back up at my previous point. Is this a work in progress we aren't being told of or simply a hope and dream for you? Answer! Answer now--less Bejebuz take you!! ![]() |
| #2218DELTAFeb 06, 2010 7:44:08 | Sorry charlie...I don't report people anymore. Its a pointless exercise in futility.![]() |
| #23eriksdbFeb 06, 2010 15:45:12 | What? Like I am your personal Apparently, because you *do* make me laugh. ![]() Anyway, 'bout time you showed up. I was getting bored with my dreams of dead chipmunks That's actually quite disturbing. I'm glad I'm here to alleviate those dreams. ![]() Erik, your characters could--quite Bejebuz-like--rock. My question is: Why don't they? This is what I speak of in the review--are these characters something you know are going to be expanded upon, or are you just banking on it? Well, to be clear, I think they *do* rock, and that's good enough for me as a writer. If they don't work for *you*, meh, I'm sorry, but there's not a whole lot I can do about that. You are not me, I am not you, and I certainly don't know what you want--and even if I did, there's no guarantee that I'd like the same things you did, and to write something I didn't like would be really dropping the ball as a writer. It wouldn't be fair to me the writer or you the audience. Is this just your evil plot to confound simpletons like me and get a book deal done???!! I would hardly call you a simpleton--occasionally drunk and disorderly, ok, but never a simpleton. ![]() I am not entirely certain what you're asking here. Clarify? If I have an evil plan, that's only to leave loose ends that I can tie up in future books, but that's more of a plot thing, less of a characterization thing. Either way, I'm sorry the book and characters didn't work out better for you. If you'd like to offer me specifics, I would be more than happy to consider them if/when I write more about these characters. And do I plan to continue the characters in later writing? Yes, yes I do. Can I give you any specifics at the moment? Nope, not at the moment. Just to say that you'll see. Oh, don't expect me to cry for you, Mr Author-Type-Person--don't you EVER!! 'Cause I'll fart purple turds before I show pity for you, buddy-oh-pal!! Oh, yeah, I will!! Hey, you and Argentina, man. I don't want you guys crying for me. And for the record, I never asked for your pity or even sympathy. I'm just saying that I wrote true to my own vision, and if you like it great, if you don't, tough. That's the best any writer can do. Ignore the four moons I gave you for your writing (which is intricately tied to the story, I may add) and note my comments on your story. Absolutely. It's just that your comments all seem to be of the general "this sucks" variety, leaving me very little to work with. If you raise a specific instance or scene that didn't work for you, I'd be more than happy to talk it through, if you want. What was my biggest issue with that? The fact that you left big, gaping holes in everything. I thought you took something completely unique and original into FR, but simply ended things without answers. So, we simply end back up at my previous point. I think "big gaping holes in everything" is a pretty big exaggeration. I thought I tied up a lot of things--like addressing the central conflict in the novel, foiling the villain's scheme, having the final showdown with the nemesis, etc--and just left an opening to follow up the main novel. This is an evolving story, and I'm not about to finish it in one book. That said, I do think the novel stands on its own well and doesn't require a follow-up in order to make sense. That you demand one is, I think, the highest praise you've offered to me. And to address your question directly, yes, I do indeed plan to continue this story. And again, I can offer no specifics at the moment. Sorry! Cheers |

I usually stay away from tournament play events like that, i prefer playing home games where i can be a Saurial if i want to. But Halster's lost apprentice really has me intrigued, and a preview of Dark Sun? that sounds pretty cool too. IM gonna have to look into this and see if can find some place close by that will be doin it. |

| #32LordManshoonFeb 09, 2010 21:08:17 | Downshadow was pretty good. My only gripe about it, was no Shar or sharrans to be found. I think it ironic that a Sharran would want his kin to be in the limelight. Nothing says "Working in the shadows" like full, in-your-face coverage of everytime a Sharran so much as scratches his shadowarse. As for this novel... well, you all know how I feel about this one. One never knows with we servants of the Lady. }:> thought the beardless gnome ( dwarf) was a sharran Rath (a dwarf) is definitely not a Sharran--he is pretty much the Realmsian equivalent of an atheist: it isn't that he doesn't believe in the gods, it's more like he just doesn't give a *something unpleasant* about them. Then again, it is saying something about the quality of a story if a reader dislikes a character as opposed to finding the story simply boring... Note that the dwarf really feels like somebody who would be a superb recruit for the temple of Shar, regardless whether or not he feels that to be true ;) He is embittered, tries to control his emotions(and failing at times), trying to forget a dark secret or two and he is cold-hearted and cruel. | #48eriksdbFeb 18, 2010 9:31:50 | Now I am not even sure I should give my opinion on the book considering the nature of some posts ;) Hey, the thread's called "Judge Dookie's Book Bashing"--let 'er rip! I had a real hard time feeling empathy for the main character though which made it difficult for me to finish the book. I have had my fill of heroes who are overcome with self-pity and to thick-headed to see that they are digging their own grave and taking their friends with them. Then again, it is saying something about the quality of a story if a reader dislikes a character as opposed to finding the story simply boring... I know exactly what you mean, and I want to point out that this was pretty much my intent. I don't find heroes who are always perfect all the time to be interesting, nor do I think it's realistic when the character has deep underlying problems (in this case, tunnel vision and a self-prescribed isolation from others) that get resolved all of a sudden at the end. Shadowbane feels that he can't be close to anyone, because of what he has to do, and he's so set along his path that he can't see alternatives, even if they are simply an augmentation of his quest--for instance, he has plenty of friends who are quite willing and able to help him, if he would only let them in. But he just decides (on their behalf) that they aren't going to help him. (That's one of my themes that I use in my writing: choices, making them for yourself and forcing them on others, and choosing not to make them.) He only starts coming to terms with his problems during the final confrontation of the book (in the tavern), and it's far too late for them not to keep him from getting a really "happy" ending. I do, however, think he grew from someone you just want to shake until he opened his eyes and saw that his curse doesn't mean he has to be alone. At the end, I think he realizes exactly what you said: that he is digging his own grave, and that there are alternatives to pursue. Note that the dwarf really feels like somebody who would be a superb recruit for the temple of Shar, regardless whether or not he feels that to be true ;) He is embittered, tries to control his emotions(and failing at times), trying to forget a dark secret or two and he is cold-hearted and cruel. Perfect Sharran dupe... Hmm. We shall see. ![]() I really like how Rath turned out. He started as just a throw-away character, but evolved into something very special. At least, IMO. I am confident he will be back in later books. ![]() Cheers |
| #49dm_lennyFeb 18, 2010 11:22:37 | Hello Mr. De Bie! First of all, Downshadow is just great! Of the new FR novels, it's one of my favorites. The climax at the final battle with Rath is just amazing. Kudos for you, sir! I'm eager to read more of your works! Id like to say to my brazillian mates, that Shadowbane is just like Batman meets FR. I now, you didnt make it that way, but my imagination makes Shadowbane like some much more dark version of batman (or maybe the DnD Miniature "Shadowbane Inquisitor", from the Night Below collection? The helmet could be just like that?): ![]() Anyway, to my questions (relate to downshadow) 1 - The strange fogs from waterdeep are post-effects of the spellplague, yes? So, can I say that Miryn is some kind of spellplagued-time-wrapped-twisted sorcerer? Kinda she was born on 3rd and make the transitions (alongside Drizzt) to 4th? 2 - Still on the matter of this fogs, when Kalen finds Myrin, she is hold back by this undead-like things from the fog, right? But the fogs of Waterdeep usually don't utter themselfs, so its some kind of reaction to the spellscarred? And Kalen have had help of this blue lady before... this is related to Kalen condition's as a Spellscarred? Maybe I'm forgetting something, but this happened to not being clearly (to me, at least). 3 - We will see more of Shadowbane's Order, or even of Kalen himself? Your book clearly lets an big hook to a continuation, and I think it could work great in a trilogy. Anyway, thanks for your time and your story, and sorry for any misplaced words (still learning the bard's language). |
| #50eriksdbFeb 18, 2010 12:13:45 | That is indeed the mini I use to represent Shadowbane when I use him as an NPC in my games (I have done that a few times). I actually originally created him as a 3.5 character, and he was a member of the Shadowbane Inquisitor prestige class (Complete Adventurer) . . . hence the name! 3. I can't say definitively, but I do indeed hope to follow Downshadow up. And if I do, I hope there will be more about his background/order. (See the DDI article I wrote about the Eye of Justice, which actually includes NPC stats for Shadowbane to use in your game: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/duad/2...) If my story (or any story for that matter) is really important to you, by all means, post positive reviews of the books on Amazon/Barnes and Noble/etc, post about the story in threads on these forums, contact WotC, etc. |
| #51JorunhastFeb 19, 2010 3:46:30 | 1) The strange fogs are indeed a legacy of the Spellplague. Spellfog? Fogplague? Plaguefog? ![]() |
| #52Madfox11Feb 19, 2010 5:17:09 | No hero is perfect. In fact, the flaws tend to be what makes it possible to connect with the protagonists of the storys. It is just that this one just strikes a wrong chord with me. |
| #53sfdragonFeb 19, 2010 8:48:34 | burn the infidiel ;) |
| #54eriksdbFeb 19, 2010 8:53:27 | No hero is perfect. In fact, the flaws tend to be what makes it possible to connect with the protagonists of the storys. It is just that this one just strikes a wrong chord with me. And that's totally cool. Not everyone is going to like every character. Shadowbane isn't even my favorite character in the book--though I'll bet we can guess who is. ![]() Cheers |
| #55sfdragonFeb 19, 2010 9:17:09 | ummmm who is The Fox At Twilight??? mmmmm Twilight...... |
| #56eriksdbFeb 19, 2010 10:26:03 | ummmm Heh! I'll take the Bleeding Obvious for 100, Alex! Actually, I was talking about major characters, and Twilight has only a cameo role in Downshadow. But anyway. ![]() Cheers |

Show Fayne. And I liked her a lot too (there is a lot of Samantha in her), until the end, when I wanted her dead, dead, dead. I personally liked Myrin and Lorien. |
| #58sfdragonFeb 19, 2010 14:29:29 | speaking of Fayne, think she will ever open her Eyes and see the truth?? that people do change. |
| #59eriksdbFeb 22, 2010 10:55:29 |

| #60sfdragonFeb 22, 2010 12:48:01 | now my curosity is peaked who is Sammantha??? or may she/he means the teenaged witch |
| #61The_SilverswordFeb 22, 2010 13:26:54 | You dont know who Samantha is? Dont you people ever pay attention!? Gomez is always going on about Samantha. Samantha is Gomez's character, A Tiefling Warlock?, we'll see how well I pay attention. |
| #62gomeztooFeb 22, 2010 15:22:04 |
Samantha is the nick name for Samarah Creel. She is over 1740 years old. She was the alu-daughter of a powerful warpriestess during the rule of ancient Narfell. After a life of evil, she fled the Great Conflagaration into the Abbyss, making a deal with Grazz't to serve him as a succubus. She ultimately betrayed him - and many others after him, as well. After making more enemies than was wise - using the Blood War to play demons and devils against each other - she was imprisoned in a summoning circle. When she was finally released, the Spell plague had passed her by, and the Blood War was over - leaving all her enemies suddenly free to hunt her. Fearful of retribution, she surrendered to priestesses of Sune. Left alone for a night in Sune's temple, chained to the altar, the goddess appeared to her. Samarah begged for forgiveness and sanctuary in Brightwater, and Sune, seeing perhaps more than just a pretty face (but who can tell?), accepted. She is now stripped of her powers, and has an unspecifed number of tasks ahead of her to prove her sincerety and make up for her life of evil. Oh, and she isn't a warlock, but a bard. (and I think I may have mentioned Tesh a few times more often than Sam...) Maybe we should conspire to have Fox and Samantha meet. I think it would make an interesting happening... And why exactly "dead, dead, dead"?
Show I had, until the end of the book, not really believed Fayne would so heartlessly and ruthlessly kill someone - especially in such a tortuous way. I didn't think she really was a murderer. Evil, traiterous, just not so incredibly evil. When I realized, at the end of the book, that she was, I really hated her. That said, it likely was peanuts to what Samantha has done in her past. |
| #63The_SilverswordFeb 22, 2010 15:31:56 | Ahhh, a Bard! I guess Im not very good at paying attention either. |
| #64eriksdbFeb 22, 2010 16:00:00 | Samantha is the nick name for Samarah Creel.[/snipt] Dude, what an awesome character. And yes, I think that would indeed be an interesting happening . . . and probably rated too highly for your standard FR piece. :O) That said, it likely was peanuts to what Samantha has done in her past. Ah, thank you for letting me know. I like to get feedback on what readers felt about my characters and why. It was pretty much my intention to hammer home that Fayne was pretty darn evil, but even so . . . well, we'll see. Just keep your eyes peeled. Cheers |

| #67JudgeDookieApr 12, 2010 23:03:45 | Back by popular demand! B.S. You saw I was back and wanted to get a rise out of me. Well, it's not happening, jerky--nada! I mean...WTF?...you just think...like...you can inspire ****...and something...? **** **** ***** think you have it under control!!!? peabody, pelican sniffer!! ![]() NOBODY controls me!!! NEVER! ![]() ... Wait. ... Oh man, who would demand *this* thread?!! :D That was my question. Where the hell is management?!?!?! ![]() Ah, thank you for letting me know. I like to get feedback on what readers felt about my characters and why. It was pretty much my intention to hammer home that Fayne was pretty darn evil, but even so . . . well, we'll see. Just keep your eyes peeled. Actually, Erik, you didn't hammer home "evil" with Fayne in any manner. You created an emotional attachment with Shadow Bane that left--at least me--wondering if she was going to repent. If anything, she should have been completely "detached" from the character--much like Rath. Instead, she became of confused. Anyway, what the hell was Fayne anyway? I think you mentioned it once in the book, but I never tried to go back and find it. Oh man, who would demand *this* thread?!! :D Leave it to your ass, you friggin' nut puppy. ![]() Oh man, who would demand *this* thread?!! :D That was my question. Where the hell is management?!?!?! ![]() That said, it likely was peanuts to what Samantha has done in her past. |
| #68eriksdbApr 13, 2010 0:36:32 | Hmm, I'm glad you were curious about Fayne at the end. She's definitely evil, but she has the potential to be redeemed. Anyway--we'll see. ![]() And Fayne's a fey'ri, a descendent of House Dlardrageth. I didn't actually say that in the book, but I think I made it fairly clear to folks steeped in Realmslore. Cheers |
| #69The_SilverswordApr 13, 2010 2:11:46 | Oh great, you guys broke the forums! |
| #70gomeztooApr 13, 2010 2:15:25 | And Fayne's a fey'ri, a descendent of House Dlardrageth. I know some feyri survived, they are on my list of potential villains. Howver, I thought the Dlardrageth got wiped out. How is Fayne related to Sarya (assuming you can tell, though I guess not)? |
| #71JorunhastApr 13, 2010 7:15:20 | This is one of the weirdest threads I've ever read. The text is AFU in more ways than one, lol. But it's nice to know the author's pretty chill about "criticism" (or whatever it is) of his book. |
| #7218DELTAApr 13, 2010 8:43:59 | Thats how we roll around here.![]() ;) |
| #73eriksdbApr 13, 2010 9:23:50 | This is one of the weirdest threads I've ever read. The text is AFU in more ways than one, lol. Yeah, I think of them more as "alcohol-fueled rants" than criticism. :D And Fayne's a fey'ri, a descendent of House Dlardrageth. To answer these questions without spoiling The Last Mythal (where stuff happens): Show Oh, demon-blooded elves are particularly wily. Though it's suffered a series of major setbacks, Dlardrageth has never been completely wiped out--some of its members survive to this day. Fey'ri who persist in the 4e FR are scattered, however, and don't even necessarily know their own heritage. Fayne, for instance, never calls herself a fey'ri--it's debatable whether she even knows that word. And I can't say how Fayne is related to Sarya yet--only "keep watching!" |
| #74sfdragonApr 13, 2010 14:36:59 | oh but i can...... demon blood tahts how. |
| #75JudgeDookieApr 16, 2010 2:29:30 | Oh great, you guys broke the forums! Thank, Bejebuz and the hot sauce! I thought I was completely intoxicated again. ![]() Is it just those last few threads on the page for you, too? I couldn't read any of it. This is one of the weirdest threads I've ever read. The text is AFU in more ways than one, lol. THANK YOU!! I strive for perfection. ![]() Though, other than the [removed] of the content, I can’t be blamed for the text. That’s just more developer But it's nice to know the author's pretty chill about "criticism" (or whatever it is) of his book. It’s amazing he’s still even bothering with this thread. I give him a favorable bashing and all you people do is sit here and try and counteract my verdict. Have some respect already. ![]() |
