| #1CaolinAug 31, 2008 22:31:10 | This might have bee said already, but another thread got me thinking about this idea. It seems pretty silly to not have a god of magic since every profession has a god. So what if someone was able to revive Karsus from the Karsestone? He would then be able to step into the empty position as the god of magic users. He is the greatest magic user Faerun has ever seen and he would be fairly neutral. And the best part is that he would act as a good foil against Shade a.k.a "the fake Netheril". I mean cripes, if Obould and Fzoul can be made into gods you got to give Karsus a chance. Just my thoughts, what do the rest of you think? |
| #2lord_karsusAug 31, 2008 22:33:54 | -I do not want the job. Been there, done that. |
| #3JudgeDookieAug 31, 2008 22:38:26 | You should of bewared his ego before posting. ![]() I think it would be a somewhat interesting concept. It could work with the proper detail. But it couldn't be an over night thing. |
| #4CaolinAug 31, 2008 22:47:11 | -I do not want the job. Been there, done that. Come on Karsy, your people need you. But yeah, I think it would make a great novel trilogy. Maybe bring back Clayton Emery to write it. I always loved his portrayal of Karsus from his Netheril trilogy. |
| #5lord_karsusAug 31, 2008 22:48:31 | Come on Karsy, your people need you. -My people!? You, all on these boards, are my people! You are all more important to me than filling in the void of deity of magic! ![]() |
| #6JudgeDookieAug 31, 2008 22:51:16 | -My people!? You, all on these boards, are my people! You are all more important to me than filling in the void of deity of magic! In other words, you just want to be sure we all worship you before you take up the mantle. :whatsthis |
| #7lord_karsusAug 31, 2008 22:54:23 | In other words, you just want to be sure we all worship you before you take up the mantle. -That'd just be super. ![]() |
| #8JudgeDookieAug 31, 2008 23:01:04 | Super - Dookie = Sub par. But, hey. Roll with it. There's always got to be an objective side to things someplace. ![]() |
| #9sfdragonAug 31, 2008 23:07:57 | I already thought he was in servitude to Corellon: Elven history |
| #10JudgeDookieSep 01, 2008 0:18:35 | I already thought he was in servitude to Corellon: Elven history Oh! Ooh! Can't wait for this one! :D |
| #11valgardSep 01, 2008 3:09:37 | -I do not want the job. Been there, done that. Well, just an instant is enough for Karsus to be the god of magic? I can tell you that, for me, Corellon should be considered now the god of magic (as in core 4th D&D). |
| #12naexSep 01, 2008 3:26:39 | Well, just an instant is enough for Karsus to be the god of magic? One could also argue that it should be Selune, since she was the origin of the weave in the first place (well, her and Shar really). |
| #13rauricSep 01, 2008 6:41:42 | I thought he was going to come back in some fashion, maybe a god of wild magic or shadow magic after the Plague. Wasn't the Karse stone tied to the S. Weave somehow. I always felt that he was the S. Weave after his "accident". I would like to see Shar, Karsus, and Mask as shadow deities and Karsus becoming a major player within Netheril again. Those two other gos can keep Shar in check. She can work in the shadows again in secret and not be so out ther for the public to see. I had it in my mind that he was the reason the Plague hit and it had nothing to do with the death of Mystra. She died twice abd there was no catastrophe this great. Perhaps that was because during the ToT the Realms was already experiencing a mini spell plague and during Mystryl's death that was only for a few minutes. I also noted that they say that scholars think that Mystras death was the reason for the plague, but the books don't really give a definite answer. At least not one I saw so it is up to the DM to play with that aspect. |
| #14lord_tirianSep 01, 2008 8:37:17 | -I do not want the job. Been there, done that. That would make it even more interesting! :P No, seriously, Karsus always felt more human to me than many other Realms characters, simply because he was very human and understandable in his quest to push further. Such a deity could be quite interesting! Especially if he feels "survivor" guilt and got a little bit mad (I assume stuff like this can happed after being "stoned" for centuries) - and his interaction and views on the Shades could be interesting as well. Cheers, LT. |
| #15thehumantargetSep 01, 2008 12:04:55 | If we absolutely had to have a god of magic, I like that idea. But I dislike the idea of a god having any sort of control over arcane magic, and I'm glad we have a Mystra free Realms now. If wizards wanted to have anything to do with the gods, they'd go to Sunday school and become clerics. |
| #16TheriseSep 01, 2008 12:12:19 | If we absolutely had to have a god of magic, I like that idea. No more mystic theurge, sadly. Those were amazingly fun to RP. |
| #17CaolinSep 01, 2008 12:51:55 | If we absolutely had to have a god of magic, I like that idea. I was more thinking that he would be the god of magic users and not the god of magic. I tend to think of magic kind of like an element and agree that there should be no god of magic. I wish they had kept Azuth around because he actually was the god of magic users.....I'm trying not to go off on a rant about that bad decision. |
| #18naexSep 01, 2008 14:40:44 | That would make it even more interesting! :P Karsus was not trying to "push forward", his goal was not godhood because he felt it was his due. He did it because his Nation was under assault from the Phaerrim, and the gods of Netheril weren't acting to save them, so he took matters into his own hands. |
| #19lord_karsusSep 01, 2008 16:27:52 | Wasn't the Karse stone tied to the S. Weave somehow. -No. The only connection it has to Shar is that she stole it from Cyric's Chosen in the Return of the Archwizards trilogy. Nothing ever came from that. But I dislike the idea of a god having any sort of control over arcane magic, and I'm glad we have a Mystra free Realms now. -A deity of magic, in theory, doesn't need to have control over it, as in dictating who and who can not use it. |
| #20lord_karsusSep 01, 2008 16:28:45 | Karsus was not trying to "push forward", his goal was not godhood because he felt it was his due. He did it because his Nation was under assault from the Phaerrim, and the gods of Netheril weren't acting to save them, so he took matters into his own hands. -Correct. The only reason the spell was cast in the first place, when it was cast, was because of the disappearance of Ioulaum, and the sudden panic that gripped High Netherese society because of it. |
| #21lord_tirianSep 01, 2008 17:06:07 | -Correct. The only reason the spell was cast in the first place, when it was cast, was because of the disappearance of Ioulaum, and the sudden panic that gripped High Netherese society because of it. Well, that's probably tinted by my own views - but similar to his research in heavy magic, I see it as a push, similar to the way the USA pushed the Manhattan Project. Sure, it was forced and partially a decision made out of fear - but going forward this boldly cannot be a purely fear-inspired reaction, but also one of belief in (arcane) progress (though it's somewhat expected, considering Netheril's arcane inclinations). Cheers, LT. |
| #22lord_karsusSep 01, 2008 17:10:54 | -Well, suffice to say, that if Karsus did not intend on possessing the power of a deity, he would have researched and written a spell that solved Netheril's problems in another way. |
| #23JudgeDookieSep 01, 2008 18:30:13 | One could also argue that it should be Selune, since she was the origin of the weave in the first place (well, her and Shar really). Exactly. When you want to create a light for every dark in the Realms, then this should have been the way. And, with Mystra being a result of the clash between the two, you could easily find a better explanation for how things stand as they are. -Well, suffice to say, that if Karsus did not intend on possessing the power of a deity, he would have researched and written a spell that solved Netheril's problems in another way. Anthropology 101 has concluded. Class dismissed. |
| #24lord_karsusSep 01, 2008 20:20:30 | Anthropology 101 has concluded. Class dismissed. -Don't be late for Theology 101. Or Physics 101. |
| #25naexSep 01, 2008 20:35:20 | -Don't be late for Theology 101. Or Physics 101. Reminding people that Summer is over? (So glad I graduated years ago, and don't have to stress about all that anymore ) |
| #26lord_karsusSep 01, 2008 20:36:33 | -No...But that's a cool idea, actually, making a thread of "required reading", or something like that, school related. |
| #27naexSep 01, 2008 20:42:06 | So long as I don't have to grade the tests. |
