| #1tancreadJul 28, 2009 21:01:56 | The DDI Character builder has the following languages for the Forgotten Realms setting: Damaran, Netherese, Shou, Thayan, Tulgan, Untheric and Chondathian. I am guessing Netherese is spoken in Netheril, Thayan in Thay, where are the rest of the languages centered? Are there any good language resources for the realms I am missing when I searched the forum? |

Shou would be the language(s) of Shou Lung and Tu Lung in Kara-Tur, introduced into Thesk. If you meant Tuigan, that is the language of the tribes of the Hordelands in the far east, on the way to Kara-Tur. Untheric is the language of Unther, in the Old Empires, though it was really only spoken there, and in the Wizard's Reach area of Aglarond. Chondathan is a language that began in Chondath, but spread to most of Faerun. It is commonly spoken in Chondath, and in Amn, Cormyr, the Dalelands, the Dragon Coast, the Nelanther Isles, Sembia, Silverymoon/Silver Marches/Luruar, Tethyr, the Vilhon Reach, Waterdeep and the Western Heartlands. I speak of the classic setting, of course. And there's many more languages than just those. The list of regions in the 3e FRCS and the Player's Guide To Faerun is good for working out what's spoken where. Dragon Annual 4 has thorough article if someone is really interested. |

Might be mistaken though ... and haven't my FRCS righ there with me. LK ... please ... don't throw about with stones while sitting in a glass house. |

Obviously, the Netherese survivors scattered out there (Aumvor, Larloch, and so on) spoke the language, and those were languages spoken by scholars in translating Netherese material, but other than that...There were a few languages that evolved from Netherese and Loross, though- the barbarians of the north and Halruaan, chiefly. |
| #6zananJul 29, 2009 14:58:10 | Had a look at the FRCS and it says that Midani is the language spoken by the bedines of the desert (77% of 114k), while Netherese was the tongue spoken by the Shade alone ... that would be 25k +/-. The largest group of people speaking something "like" Netherese are the Halruuans. Anyways, that was 1371 stuff and since the OP was referring to DDi, he looks for 4E stuff. Hence, happy hunting. |

I'd say with the imperialist stranglehold of the Shadovar following the Spellplague, Netherese has probably become on par with Midani amongst the Bedine. |
