Least Favorite Deities
(in alphabetical order)
Asmodeus*
Chauntea
Eilistraee
The entire Mordinsamman (I don't like Dwarves too much, and so many of the Dwarven deities seem a bit extraneous, even in terms of having different deities for different aspects of life)
Mystra

*For those considering him a deity. I prefer to keep my deities and Archdevils separate, and prefer him as an Archdevil.

-And, geese, making a list of least favorite deities is quite a bit harder than listing those that I do like. After the two I specifically dislike the most, I already felt like I was scraping the side of the can.

SWEET!:D

Here we go:
Tymora*
Sharess*
Gilgeam
Asmodeus (for the same reasons LK mentioned)
Amaunator (as the "Lathander=Amaunator" version)
Eilistraee
Zehir
Fzoul Chembryl (whom I refuse to recognize as a divine being)

Gilgeam is the only one I don't necessarily loathe, per se (Asmo too, as an Archdevil).

* Many of you won't like it, but tough:P

I am kinda partial to Talos, and the other Deities of Nature's Fury. ;)

Eilistraee - She was terrible for what she was supposed to be doing, and not much better than her mother.
Lolth - Useless spider bimbo
Shar - Tired of hearing about her
Lolth
Shevarash - God of officially sanctioned hate crimes. Get a life and get over it already.
Lolth
Most of the dwarven gods because I don't care for dwarves
Lolth
Gruumsh - Yeah you got your arse kicked by a scrawny little elf.
Lolth
Malar - You too. Also, you suck.

Tyr - never really belonged in the Faerunian "pantheon"

Just curious: Is this because he's an interloper deity? If so, how do you feel about Oghma, Loviatar, and Silvanus?

I did and I do, but one must know the proper ways to insult one's enemies. To Gruumsh, Corellon *is* a scrawny little elf. A scrawny little elf who happens to have pwned him hardcore. :P

(Nevermind that Corellon's usual appearance is seven feet tall. To an orc, still scrawny.)

Mystra/Midnight - Liked the Weave, hated the owner
Ao - Hated the concept, trivialized the gods
Kelemvor - Too boring and flat
Cyric - Novels ruined him
Tyr - Boring and flat
Eilistraee - I liked the Masked Lady, hated the original incarnation
Chauntea - She just never appealed to me
Finder Wyvernspur - I forgot to add him. Yes, I hate Finder. Awful.

All Gnomish Deities.
Most Elven Deities aside from Shevarash.
Most Halfling Deities.
Most Dwarven Deities.
Most Dragon Deities.
Most Giant Deities.
Most Mulhorandi Deities.
All of the Maztican Deities.
A lot of monstrous deities.

This list **was** harder to make than the ones I liked. >_>

All non-human deities except Obould - there were enough deities in FR without having to have ones special to a race.

Cyric

Midnight/Mystra - Lame
Kelemvor - Super Super Lame
Cyric - Liked the human character, hated the god.
Finder Wyvernspur - The absolute stupidest god. I hate even seeing his name in print, I wish they would wipe him from existence and pretend the whole thing never happened.
Gwaeron Windstrom - So so pointless. Yawn.
Red Knight - Might like her better with a decent name.
Kara-Turan pantheon, except for Mad Monkey. Mad Monkey is awesome.
Most of the Dragon Dieties
Drow Pantheon
Elven Pantheon

Chauntea - The most boring portfolios etc, who wants to be an adventurer/farmer?

Tyr - For some reason never appealed to me at all, thats not because he's a LG paladin god. I like Torm. Tyr is just so boring and singleminded in a way to me.

Mystra - The latest NG incarnation was horrible. She should never have been anything but neutral.

Kelemvor - First of all, Myrkul should still have been god of the dead. The god of the dead should always be a necromancer god, not the opposite. Myrkul was cool. Kelemvor is completely devoid of any personality etc, "duuuurr, me hate undead durrr". I tried playing a priest of Kelemvor once, I just don't see how people do it and still make it interesting.

P.S. The 4E realms needs atleast one Necromancer god damn it, not even Velsharoon is left. EVERY setting should have atleast one god associated with necromancy, if only to make great antagonists for PCs. Every DM likes undead right?
It baffles me how they left that out when they remade the 4E pantheon. Perhaps a question for Rich baker in that other thread?

Blipdoolpoolp -- scrap that, I like to say the name actually :P

Cyric (dumbest. ever.)
Finder Wyvernspur (killed Moander, which was a bad idea)
Xvim (dumb name. Bane should never have left.)
Kelemvor (actually, I don't mind Kelemvor personally. But I'd trade him for Myrkul)
Lathander (guy with issues)
Shar (also a favorite deity. But I agree she should not be overused, so I list her here as well)

So most of the above I really don't mind that much. Except for Cyric. They really should have got rid of him in 4th ed.

Shar (Grrr)
Eilistraee (Good riddance)
Cyric (Why on earth would any competent Pantheon keep this guy around?)
Lord Ao (Is he even a deity? Doesn't matter, he's an awful Dues Ex Machina mechanic, quite literally)
Kelemvor (There is a reason he's going to die in my current FR game and Myrkul is coming back).

-Most of the Mulhourandi pantheon; c'mon...this is fantasy, there are limitless possibilities to draw inspiration from, not just a dumb rip off of a dumb rip off.
-Gargauth...Tempus would likely not suffer his interference. God of war? How did he abide this don't ask/tell truce of sorts? Victory or defeat, not wait and see. It's a pretty clear cut/popular portfolio. Precident is confusing.
-Most of the new (read, contrived, stale, laughable) 4th ed divine adjustments. Asmodeus? Uh, right.
-Ao (again, contrived...) "alpha, omega"...how inspired . Way to make it your own. Very being defeats much of the canon. Unnecessary.
-Mystra, could've been good, per the concept, but they bungled it a few times. Truly, she should've been Neutral and not so naive/gullible.
-Illmater; a generic Christ-figure w/out much originality. Who made this blunder?
-Cyric; by all accounts, he should've been killed many times over now by x'ing many powerful, and arguably, more inspired gods. Default plain vanilla evil god. Exciting! Exploits are laughably fake. Could've been gold, but...

You mean Garagos, the Reaver. Gargauth is the divine "Tenth Lord" and arch-rival of Asmodeus. Don't understand what you mean by a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" truce. Sounds like something else to me.:D

Ah, that's it, I stand corrected. I always mix those 2 up cuz' I so rarely use them. But yeah, the chaotic bloodlust god of war vs. the more traditional embodiment (Tempus). Always locking horns. Even his protege (Red Knight) stands to reason that them, together, should've easilly delt w/ this usurper.

By virtue of their general dynamic, War, they would not tolerate each other really. War, metaphorically speaking, is generally "finality", not little skirmishes w/ each other. Anything less than victory is failure really. One, ideally, would've wiped out the other and the smart money is on Tempus per his divine rating, other deific backing, clout of faithful, etc., IMO.

I know what you mean. Those two never really got much facetime compared to most other deities, even in canon. And technically speaking, Garagos predates Tempus, if I remember correctly, back when he was Targus. So that makes Tempus the usurper (if I have my lore correct).

Well, Tempus never put an end to Garagos because he dislikes what Garagos embodies. Tempus despises the reckless bloodlust and meaningless strife Garagos spreads, but he knows that he would have to shoulder them if he defeated Garagos and took up his mantle. Even if he slew Garagos and left his portfolios floating around, it's likely someone else would come along and snatch them up, and then Tempus would be facing a much more powerful foe. At least he has a gauge of Garagos and that god's power; he knows that Garagos' rampages are contained because of his minor status.

Just opinions here. No offense intended.... ;)

Least Faves
  • Gwaeron Windstrom - I don't want to make any comments about this one because I'm sure he was only created to appease a dev's new step-child IRL or something. :D
  • Hanali Celanil - Sorry, I just never bought the significance of an "elven" goddess of beauty. I like her much better as one face of Faerun's goddess of love & beauty--who by all means should still be called Hanali Celanil among elves and Sune among humans...and be argued over constantly.
  • Shiallia - For all the aspiring goat-legged pregnant heroines out there!
  • Bahamut - Cheezeypuffs! Leave him in core where he has space to be cool. (Sorry, I know he's popular 'round these parts.)
  • Zehir - Waaah...where's Set/Sseth/Varae? Also, I don't know that I like the idea of bothering to match up the campaign setting with a computer game. Leave him in core where he is interesting.
  • Ao - After seeing the post before mine, I edited this guy onto the list...For being just too much. (See, he's doing it again. He ruined my "top five" list!)

Some almosts....
  • Angharradh (sorta) - I just didn't like the particular way the triune thing worked. I wanted it to be cool, but it wasn't. (It's a little different in 4e.)
  • Asmodeus (sorta) - In FR I think he may be cooler as a non-deity, although the (tragic) Azuth episode is a good story.
  • Mielikki (sorta) - I know, I know! I feel so horrible, but her (and Ehlonna) are just so...blah. It's not that I don't like her so much, it's just that add Lurue + Gwaeron + Chauntea + Silvanus + Shiallia and even Drizzt & Mielikki's Shadoweirs are hard-pressed to make her stand out. (This is remedied somewhat in 4e.)

Add more to the following:

Bahamut. Yeah, I said I hated the dragon pantheon and that included him as well, but some people have singled him out. So extra hate on him.

Angharradh: Hated the Elvish Pantheon, but extra hate on her.

Asmodeus: Extra hate, didn't like him as the ruler of hell (not FR centric enough for me), and don't like him as a deity. Should be replaced by Gargauth.

Celestial Bureaucracy: Just die.

Chauntea: Boring. I can't remember if I named her or not, but yes. Boring.

Finder Wyvernspur: I named him once already. I'm naming him again. I hate him -THAT- much. :P

Gilgeam: Hate him too, but since he is dead I didn't think he was relevant. Since he is listed, sign me up to hate.

Unther Pantheon: In fact, sign me up to hate most of these guys with the exception of Hoar who hates them so much he left.

Gwaeron Windstorm: Forgot about him. Pointless. Hate.

Hanali Celanil: An elf god. Hate.

Istishia: Boring. Hate. I hope she drowns in her own water.

Iyachtu Xvim: I didn't bring him up since he was dead, but since he has votes... hate.

Siamorphe: Really, I am borderline on her. I wish she was more interesting, and really I think she should just be folded into Amaunator. So hate.

Shiallia: Same as Windstorm. Hate.

Tempus: Bleh. Was never fond of him. I like Garagos and Red Knight better. So hate.

Tiamat: I could come up with something more awesome. She just doesn't work for me. Hate.

Tymora: Beshaba is better. Tymora is too flighty. Hate.

Velsharoon: Myrkul should have been the god of necromancy. Hate.

Scorecard updated.

Celestial Bureaucracy: Just die.

What with the massive chaos in Kara Tur, they might very well have.

Tymora: Beshaba is better. Tymora is too flighty. Hate.

HIGH FIVE!

Velsharoon: Myrkul should have been the god of necromancy. Hate.

Funny you should say that, because in my own realms, Myrkul did indeed slay Velsharoon and claim his mastery of undeath. I have a little bio floating around here somewhere; see if I can dig it up.

EDIT: Found it in the Running the Realms: No Elminster Stats topic.
I had Myrkul (in the Crown of Horns) ambush Velsharoon during the Spellplague. In my realms, Velsharoon betrayed Mystra, Savras, and Azuth, and aided Cyric and Shar in entering Dweomerheart. Velsharoon had thought he would be getting a nice rise in power after moving to Shar's realm, but he got attacked by Myrkul before he could truly gloat. After a brief, but epic, battle of will, Velsharoon's mind was obliterated by Myrkul's essence, which engulfed Velsharoon's divine spark and restored Myrkul to "life". Myrkul quickly gave the souls of Velsharoon's faithful a choice: Convert or be obliterated. None chose the latter. Myrkul then tore Velsharoon's homeplane (now his own) and fled Shar's realm (in accordance with Ao's will, a deity can relocate without having to fear retaliation while in the process of doing so). Realizing Kelemvor would slaughter him once he discovered Myrkul's return, Myrkul reluctantly came to Banehold and submitted to Bane, who was overjoyed (with his own sense of tyrannical glee) to see his old pal back. Myrkul is an intermediate deity of undead, liches, and necromancy in 1479 DR (a real 180 from his past incarnation).

Imagine how much better the story would have been had Velsharoon had been duped into putting on the Crown of Horns? Then Myrkul - as Velsharoon - is close to Mystra. He sees this major opportunity, sides with Shar and Cyric to axe Mystra, all in an attempt for him to gain control over the Weave?

Then of course Myrkul survives the fall out, and fails to get control of the Weave... but still. I would have liked to see Myrkul come back via Velsharoon.

Don't get me wrong, I understand. There are plenty of other candidates for biggest loser. When it comes to villainous deities, Bane holds third place. The only two who screwed up more than him are Cyric and his mis-begotten son Iyachtu Xvim.

But seriously. Look at Iyachtu Xvim. He's everything that makes Bane awful all wrapped into a single package. Come on. It is clear that the best part of Xvim Not only does he have a name, but he's the only deity who can claim that he's almost as big an idiot as Cyric. His idea of evil is kicking puppies, like that's supposed to scare someone. At least Fzoul Chembryl has a mustache he can twirl while chaining the fair maiden to the rail road tracks as he laughs manically.

Give Bane some hate. Not only did he spawn Xvim, but he saved Fzoul. Just because he's number three, doesn't mean he can't be number one sometimes. ;)

There are a few I have strong dislike for.

- Cyric - from what I know of him he seems like a barely coherent idiot, yet has survived time and again despite that and outwitted enemies smarter and definitely cooler than him. How the .... is that punk around when Bane's howling for his blood and Mask tries to mess him up three ways on any given day - and that is before you count all neutral or good deities that might have a grudge? Three claps for plot armor!

- Siamorphe - I just don't get the point. A goddess of nobility for the sake of ... huh?

- Angharradh - as a triad of elven deities, ok. As a separate deity on top of that... wth?

- Velsharoon - IF we have to have a deity of necromancy, can we please have someone less pathetic? As far as I'm concerned, nix the portfolio (is there a deity of transmutation? Evocation? Conjuration) and give the rest to Jergal. If you have to have a lich deity, have Larloch finish that spell of his and become a quasi-divine entity.

- Finder Wyvernspur - as an agent of a deity, sure, but a deity in his own right... Meh. What is the point of him?

- Iyachtu Xvim - if he counts. Complete waste of space, the only thing he did right was to die so Bane could be reborn.

- Shar - only the GodMode version in late 3.5 and 4. As just another evil deity, she's quite ok.

- Lliira - I don't quite get the point. At least Shiallia is a mini-deity of the forest, but Lliira steps too much on the toes of a few other deities (i.e. Sharess, Sune, etc) imo. TBH, I don't care much for either, but somehow Shiallia works better in concept.

Bane is pretty much my favourite evil deity, in that he actually seem scary and powerful. He also does his "thing"(Tyranny, domination etc) well, it suits him.

Give Bane some hate. Not only did he spawn Xvim, but he saved Fzoul. Just because he's number three, doesn't mean he can't be number one sometimes. ;)

Fzoul is like the coolest(or atleast one of the coolest) NPCs in the realms.;)

Shar was great in 1E, 2E, and the beginning of 3E.:D

Dont hate on her because the Designers got her confused with Vol from Eberron.:embarrass

I actually think I hate most of them...

Special mention to the following (I don't care about sub-gods like the unicorn girl [Lurue, LOL] etc):

Cyric. Gods have to make sense. Way overdone.
Shar. Boring.
Mystra. Boring...
Lolth. Gods have to make sense, they are too intelligent to be morons.
Chauntea. She is just so useless, and could be part of Lathander, who is also entirely booring.
All elven gods except Labelas. He fits the elf thing.
Malar. Why is he evil?

My Forgotten Realms would have:

Asmodeus (tyranny)
Amaunator (light)
Tempus (war)
Labelas (time)
Talos (chaos)
Vaeron (trickery)
Obad-Hai (Nature)
Sazz-Tam (Death)
Moradin (strength)

-No, Fzoul's mustache is one of the coolest NPCs in the Forgotten Realms. ;)

I once grew a mustache like Fzoul's, back when I had reaaally long hair (coupled with the fact that I have red hair added to the likeness). I only kept it for about 3-4 days since my sister (along with almost everyone else) hated it passionately.

P.S. Do you ever wonder why all the text descriptions of Fzoul since like, all the way back in 2E, described him as having red hair while every single drawing of him depicted him as blond(not in a redhead-blond sort of way)? A conundrum that has always puzzled me.

Scorecard updated.

Well, in all fairness, Lliira is older than Sharess. So really, it's Sharess who steps on the toes of Lliira. Which might just be why the designers gave Sharess the laughable "Cats" sphere instead of "Pleasure" or something else in Lliira's ballpark.

Bane is pretty much my favourite evil deity, in that he actually seem scary and powerful. He also does his "thing"(Tyranny, domination etc) well, it suits him.

If we're going by the Faerunian Pantheon alone, then Bane would by my fourth fav evil god. Mask, Loviatar, and Beshaba take the top three respectively.

P.S. Do you ever wonder why all the text descriptions of Fzoul since like, all the way back in 2E, described him as having red hair while every single drawing of him depicted him as blond(not in a redhead-blond sort of way)? A conundrum that has always puzzled me.

4. Bane

No. Especially if you take a look at his appearances in novels (almost every single one of them has him look worse by several order of magnitude than Cyric just after having read his own book).

Reading the Pool of [...] it's hard to imagine Bane as anything other than a 5-year old throwing a tantrum (made worse by the epiloge which had Tyr just smile like a wise father about Bane's "great achievement" degrading it to no more than a boyish prank).

In the ToT novels it was almost unbelieveable how obviously Myrkul pulled Bane's strings without Bane ever suspecting who was really in charge. I could easily imagine how Myrkul needed to retreat to laugh himself to tears after every encounter with Bane's avatar.

Bane: Come on Myrkul, give me the power I demand or I'll beat you up
Myrkul: *cowering as if in fear* Yes, wise Bane, please don't harm me
*Bane marching off to his doom*
Myrkul: *all alone* Dance to your doom my puppet, dance to my masterplan *muhahahaha*

forgot to add Zehir

maybe Silvanus, cause nothing interesting was done with him other than the basics

in response to some of the hate previously

Asmodeus: Extra hate, didn't like him as the ruler of hell (not FR centric enough for me), and don't like him as a deity. Should be replaced by Gargauth.

not FR centric? Ed designed the Nine Hells, I agree that the planes should be more involved with the world tough

Celestial Bureaucracy - I don't like particular gods there, except Monkey, the pantheon concept is unique, worth not hating

Chauntea - think the problem is that her church is not enough developed, personally I added biodynamic agriculture (pseudoscientific) to get more flavor

Finder - lot of mentions of him, this is weird, Finder's novels are one of the best in FR, only thing bothering is the portfolio of saurials, think he's much better than generic, typical Milil

Gilgeam is cool, first he was a god-king, that adds to the uniqueness of FR governments, then he's got history, Gilgeam changed and developed over 3000 years, something I wish happened to the rest of Unther so that it less seems like a historical rip-off. Gilgeam has a great twist on top of the sumerian principle about the harshness of life.

Iyachtu Xvim, I liked the name and the cambion origin, maybe it's the native language thing. He hates for no apparent reason, some gods are just embodidments of concepts. I think he should have merged with Bane. I don't use Bane, logically there should be a deity of tyranny and oppression. Only when Zhents became his army he became particularly annoying.

Siamorphe, think she adds to the flavor of the Realms, maybe better as a quasideity. Nobles and rulers in history often called on divine rights to support their authority, she's needed to cover that.

Tymora, you just have to have the god of luck, don't use her either, but a changed version of Tyche and Calistria (Golarion)

Velsharoon is boring, think Myrkul should remain the way he is now, returng again would be redundant and the Crown of Horns plot gives more roleplaying options

Angharradh - how is a trinity of gods confusing, what do you want plain and simple and boring, gods are mysterious, triple gods is a common mythological element

Malar. Why is he evil?

and why not?

lot of people value gods on what they did or how they acted in the novels, particularly Cyric, Mystra and Shar, personally I could care less, for the PCs it's only the portfolios, dogma and the religous rites that matters

My problem with Asmodeus is that he seems to straddle the division between core and the Realms. I'd like for the Nine Hells to reflect the Realms, not reflect the multiverse. It's actually worse in editions past 2E because you end up getting the worst of all possible worlds: each Nine Hells is completely separate from the others, which means you have multiple versions of Asmodeus running around. Unless you believed that the Hells were somehow straddling the various multiverses in the way the Plane of Shadows did... possible, but never mentioned.

Either way, I like Gargauth because he is a Realms-centric deity. It would have been nice to see Gargauth axe Asmodeus and take his place through some well developed coup d'etat. Especially now that Asmodeus is a god. An arch-devil so evil that he was exiled from hell, went on to become a god, and then plot his vengeance against the ruler of hell, to return and take it over... that's an interesting plot.

It could have also been a way to bring an end to the Blood War that made sense.

-It's the other way around: In 2e, there was one singular Nine Hells, and a single Asmodeus, that all existing D&D campaign settings were linked to. In 3e, the concept of the central, shared Great Wheel cosmology was eliminated, creating a different Nine Hell, and Asmodeus, for each different campaign setting, which became a self-containing entity.

Lord Karsus-

Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't know why I said 2E instead of 3E. :P

But to restate my point:

I disliked the interconnected universe given to us in 2E with the Great Wheel. I like things when they are more Realms centric, but in 3E we got the worst of all possible worlds: we lost the Great Wheel, we kept some of the interconnectedness (via the Shadow Plane), and we ended up with multiple copies of Asmodeus running around.

I'm not against the concept of the Nine Hells or the Abyss. I just want them to be Realms centric.

Just in response...

Finder - lot of mentions of him, this is weird, Finder's novels are one of the best in FR, only thing bothering is the portfolio of saurials, think he's much better than generic, typical Milil

I'm personally on the fence about Finder. He's not on my list, but I don't much care for him. In the Finder's Stone trilogy, he came across as a real dick. I felt bad for Alias. He started to pick up towards the end of Song of the Saurials, but still. I agree that the books are some of the finest FR novels ever written, but I don't think the overall quality of the novels makes up for his unpleasant nature.

Gilgeam is cool, first he was a god-king, that adds to the uniqueness of FR governments, then he's got history, Gilgeam changed and developed over 3000 years, something I wish happened to the rest of Unther so that it less seems like a historical rip-off. Meh. He may have been unique, but I never found him particularly interesting. Bane's a better tyrant, many deities represent strength in a more dynamic way, etc.

Tymora, you just have to have the god of luck, don't use her either, but a changed version of Tyche and Calistria (Golarion)

What bothers me about Tymora is just how fickle she is. I just don't understand the appeal of such a flighty deity. She's supposed to spread fortune and good will, but she's pretty frugal with her benevolence. I don't understand why her numbers remain strong when you have a 50% chance of being completely ignored by her. Beshaba, in some twisted way, is pretty fair compared to her sister Tymora (which is why I love her a lot more than her CG sister). It's not a matter of if you'll suffer; it's how and to what extent. Pray to Beshaba; it seems to help your odds better than praying to Tymora.

I like Gargauth more as an outcast, his return would be an interesting plot, but is it not better to leave it open, as an option? Once the story is over, there's less adventure potential.

I agree that multiple Asmodeuses and Anthraxus/Inthracis were ridiculous. In 2e FR was core. The problem was that the planes had a minor influence on Toril. You can't expect that the multiverse revolves around one insignificant world. Cheliax in Golarion is a good example how you handle the interaction between the world and the planes.

Because his personality won't attract many followers? His dogma and church rites are pretty open-ended, and his portfolios are a bit too broad for their own good.

I always liked the social tyranny aspect of Gilgeam, Bane is just a bully, too plain and obvious.

But Gilgeam was a bully, more so than Bane. He was just a localized bully. He bossed around a single nation, and threatened to clobber anyone who uttered a peep against him. He had nothing else going for him. Bane, at least, focuses on conquest and supremacy amongst the gods, and has a "strong eat the weak" mentality. Certainly a lot more interesting than a crazed god-king who sits around and boasts.

I'll chip in with my 2gp worth:

Ao - A complete and literal dues ex machina. No doubt added as a GDPC type character along with the other "Unholy Trio" of Midnight/Cyric/Kelemvor. Largely useless, as in he does nothing, and largely extraneous to running the Realms. Also, there's no basis for Realmslore with him, he just shows up and lays down an also non-existant law. Couldn't you have at least added a god of law/beurocracy/minutes taker instead? Seriously, you even have a pantheon called the Celestial Beurocracy.

Cyric - Another ToT god. This one ruined by bad, bad, bad, bad characterization and being the most blatant example of a Marty Sue character. See GDPC (a character played by a game developer). Then he got worse.

Shar - Started cool as the god of goths vampyres [sic], then got worse. The problem with her and Cyric is that the devs forgot that there are other gods in the pantheon.

Midnight - See a pattern with the ToT gods? This one continues it.

Kelemvor - ToT, enough said. Flat characterization and they didn't bother changing the stupid stuff about the Realms of the Dead to boot.

Bane v1/Bhall/Myrkul - I didn't like them. I got the impression that they are EVIL and not much more than that. Myrkul struck me more of a borderline pedo than a necromancer (think Peter Lorre in M rather than Freddy Kruger) which is bad for a god of the Dead. I never had a problem with Bane v2 (iyuactu Xvim) since he had a decent backstory - tiefling embraces his demonic heritage and claims a paternal inhertance. Also didn't have a problem with Bane v3 since he grew a metaphorical goatee and layed down the tyranny (mostly on Cyric, which helps).

Lloth - See Shar.

The Untheric pantheon, except for Hoar - boring.

All of the orc and non-Llira halfing gods. Some of the random monster gods (ie the god of mongrelfolk, who also need to burn repeatedly), although they are kinda hit or miss.

I don't believe "whoop" is an accurate description. If memory serves me correctly, Elminster managed to stall Bane at Lathander's temple. He just barely managed to keep him at bay, before both of them got zapped by Mystra's energy. It's been quite a while since I read this, though.
