Feb 21, 2009 22:50:50 Hey everyone! You'll excuse me if this isn't the appropriate place to discuss this topic, but I couldn't find a book-specific forum...

I'm trying get to get into some Drizzt. Obviously, most of the people in this forum are well-versed in this manner, but I wanted some clarification on a few things:

I'm going to start with the Legend of Drizzt series, and then try other things, like Icewind Dale, or Hunter's Blade. I'm not sure what I should pick up, however. I saw the collectors edition hardcovers, which look pretty sexy, but I didn't see a fourth one released that will complete the set. Does anyone have information as to whether they intend to complete the set of special Collector's Edition hardcovers?

Otherwise, what realms stuff should I look at? I wanna do Drizzt, but also more recent stuff peaks my interest. I'm DMing 4th Edition, so anything post-spellplague is gold. Is Abolethic Sovereignty or Blades of Moonsea any good?

1. Homeland Triology
A. Homeland
B. Exile
C.Sojourn
2. Icewind Dale Trilogy
A.The Crystal Shard
B. Streams of Silver
C. The Halflings Gem
After that they become individual novels(sure they may be grouped together but "technically" they aren't trilogies just continuation of his adventures)
Legacy
Starless Night
Seige of Darkness
Passage to Dawn
Silent Blade
Ok here's where it splits and some side characters have novels for them
Spine of the World(Wulfgar)
Servant of the Shard(Jarlaxle,Entreri)
Promise of the Witch King(Jar and Entreri)
Road of the Patriarch(Jar and Entreri)
This is where the original group of friends join back up(from here on out)
Sea of Swords
Hunter's Blade trilogy
The Thousand Orc's
The Lone Drow
The Two Swords
Transitions Triology
The Orc King
The Pirate King
The Ghost King(Oct/Nov 2009)

Those are the novels plus there is a guide to the legend of Drizzt and a few short stories in "Realms of" series. I would get the older novels unless you're into the re-modeling of the cover art and maybe a few extra words from RAS in the shiny new novels.(overplayed imo)

Also above when I mentioned the timeline with the first 2 trilogies I simply meant that "icewind dale" trilogy was actually published first and Homeland came second. But in the FR timeline "Homeland" takes place before "Icewind Dale". Good books one and all ImO but some will disagree but form you're own opinion and to anyone who gives you greif about it.

Does anyone have information as to whether they intend to complete the set of special Collector's Edition hardcovers?

It's pretty much assured, since the Drizzt novels are the biggest sellers. Precisely for that reason, you shouldn't have any trouble finding the complete set, and you could get it all now if you don't mind your books not being this particular set of hardcovers.

Thanks for the reassurance! I have the first hardcover now, and I was worried for a second there. I was thinking about just going with paperbacks, but I really dig the hardcovers, and I don't mind waiting for the last one. I'll be taking it all in over a period of time anyway, in with my other reading (reading Chabon, Foer, Pynchon, Poe).

OH, Nevermind! Pre-quels give me an ulcer.

Well MT for old timers like us (who had no choice to read the true 1st series because they were first published and decided to pick up the "prequel" and have to stomach the errors between the books) its always safe to have the Zantac on hand
