| #1feuerfaustDec 16, 2008 16:22:02 | Howdy. So, to get to the meat of it, our store runs Living Forgotten Realms a couple times a month. I actually run a bunch of these, but my chance to play's coming up soon. :D Now, here's the basic idea behind Edgar Crowe, retired adventurer extraordinaire. He's about 55 or so, and as such is not as hardy as he used to be, but his wits have been sharpened by an early life of near-death scrapes. He's lived the last twenty years in a small mountain town, thriving off of a vineyard he purchased with his adventuring money. Well, the senior's life is getting to him, so he's gone into the attic and brought out the good ol' armor for another go around (it even still fits, mostly!) Time to show these young punks what a seasoned warrior can accomplish. I'm still new to the Forgotten Realms setting, so I'm looking for notable events in Faerun's history he may have participated (quietly) in, and where a nice mountainside villa with a vineyard might be located. :P Mechanics-wise, he's a level 1 fighter with high wisdom, to show his lack of practice but keen senses. Game build isn't what I want advice on, however, since he's a lot more interesting than his loot or powers (although his armor is very out-of-date and may embarrass his party.) So, in short, help me make Edgar fit into Forgotten Realms nice and smooth-like. :D |

You could sort of generically use militia service (the Dalelands and Cormyr, for example) and just riff on that. A minor skirmish (in terms of world-wide recognition) could still be important locally. |

Ask the DM if there's any particular place or person he'd like you to know from "back in the day". If the character's well-travelled, feel free to rattle off tourist info about places that he's been and tend to wander off on tangents about the old days when you get to a town that he's been to before and he discovers that the Dancing Lizard tavern burned down over a decade ago. "And then, back in the winter of , when I was hired on as a guard at 's castle and I used to spar with Lord So-And-So (this was before they became the Duke, of course), I won this magic sword playing Three Dragon Ante with the bodyguard of the visiting of ... They make some great ale in ... What? No, I didn't say I was friends with Lord So-And-So, I said I sparred with him - He enjoyed beating the tar out of all us guards on the practice ground..." Get familiar with the recent history of the campaign area - you'll be a lot more familiar with it that some of the younger characters since you were alive for it, even if you weren't actually present. Arrange for the DM to occasionally have the character run into people he knows from the old days, just so the rest of the party can go, "Holy , he really does know the Duke of Somewhere's second cousin..." :D |
