| #1goujoe_the_bumpkinSep 03, 2010 16:22:26 | So in the campaign I'm currently working on, the first part (most likely through the Heroic teir) the story will follow the players as they work as caravan guards for a group of genasi emigrating out of Cormyr with their eventual destination being Waterdeep. I'm planning on writing the campaign in a very "episodic" style as the party stops along the road for various adventures and mini-adventures. For instance, an ambush forces the party to pursue a group of bandits to their base and rescue the hostiges they kidnaped from the caravan, or they are recuited to investigate a haunted castle while the caravan is stopped in a town to gather supplies, or they are forced to head out and find a critical component to one of the gnomish machines pulling the wagons, etc. To help plan these sorts of things out, I figured that it would be good to know about interesting landmarks or decidedly dangerous patches of road along the way, and while I have pretty good knowlege of FR, I don't have encyclopedic knowlege or anything. So I would appretiate some input about these sorts of things from anyone who might know. Now I haven't entirely decided yet if I'm going to use the 3.5e map of Faerun or the 4e map, so I'll just post both versions of the planned journey. ![]() ![]() They'd either be headed out from Arabel or Suzail, head along the coast of the Dragonmere or through the Stormhorns, head to Iriaebor and either sail (assuming the river flows westward) or travel along the shore of the river to Scornubel, then make the trek to the Sword Coast and Waterdeep. I don't know all too much about any of the towns they'd travel through (save for Arabel and Suzail), so any info on them would be helpful to fill in the spots between what I just come up with myself. |

It's 2E Lore. You can glean some really good stuff and change it up a tad for your game. I hope this helps. ![]() |

Nah, caravans don't like mountains that much. * You should take a look at the Volo's Guide to the Swordcoast. It is nice! Really nice. * Remember: 4th edition! Abuse your imagination on strange features and landmarks, even that The SWordcoast and Western Heartlands have not been so affected by the Spell Plague, you should put some interesting motes, and alter some material you find in the books, just for the sake of time. |

Thanks for the suggestions, though I'm using a pretty tweaked version of the history and current events of the realms, specificly a lack of the Spellplague for the first tier of the campaign, not to mention it being caused by completely different reasons then the whole Cyric shanking Mystra stuff (which I am not a fan of, she's alive and well in my Faerun, lol), though the alterations to the history books will leave plenty of room for weird planar-related shenanigans to get in their way. I did plan on using something a bit like the motes in one of the side adventures they would have towards the end of the trip though. And I'll certainly look into the Volo's Guide you mentioned, thanks. |
