TOPIC EDIT.

Alright, this has already turned into a debate.

Single question--yes or no.

Do you value LK's knowledge?

LK will come back if and when He decides to come back. I know a break was what I really needed from this mad house. Heck I was gone from the end of January, to right before Gencon this year.

Yes the new forums suck in only that I dont have all of my old smilies. (No I will not download any either!) Its going to take time, before they have all of the bugs worked out.

The new boards are terrible and we need LK back. I can't be the only one defending elves forever. D:

I loathe the idea of posting in this thread, because it reeks of fanboi hero-worship.  But I feel the need to speak up more.

Regarding questions 1 and 2:  The interface is fine with me.  There are some minor things that could be changed, but we already have a means of telling WotC about that.  No need for us to start a thread in Realmslore to do that.

Regarding question 3:  That's LK's decision to make.  Do you really think if we "vote" for LK to return, that he will?

As to the implication of question 3:  We don't need a "leader" on these forums.

What we do need is a legitimate quorum.  We need the Pamelas, the Illuvriens, the 18Deltas the Lord Manshoons and anyone else who's been around awhile to speak up with their differing ideas on what the FR forums are and should be.

We also need everyone else, new or old to these forums, to speak up too.

These forums would be far better served by a mix of ideas and by open discussion, not by the sort of closed off, behind the scenes one-man decision making we had previously.

I don't see a point in arguing for (or against, for that matter) LK's return. It is up to him, and while I see value to every member on these boards, whether steeped in lore or not, I also realize that the boards won't fall apart if any single individual leaves.

I can appreciate people missing friends, but it may be better to find other ways to reestablish contact than to try and coax someone back when he is not in the mood for it.

Nd discussions on community flaws do not belong in this forum. We should talk about the Realms.

I dont think the interface is bad, I just wish there was a way to change the background color. As for Lord Karsus coming back, yes I would love to see him come back, he really knows his stuff, but the big question is does he want to come back? And id love to see more of the old guard come back too, not just Lord Karsus. The more the merrier, We need more people in here supporting the Realms, then maybe WotC will give us more Realmslore goodness.

If people don't want to come back because of an interface, their choice. Personally I can't stand Enworld's white on black because it gives me headaches. It still doesn't stop me from checking out their threads now and then.

LK is a member of Candlekeep and the board where he's got his netbooks based. If he's not happy here, he is not lacking for places to meet.

Gomez is also right in that this forum is hardly the place for such a thread. I'll ask for it to be moved to FR General.

EDIT: Looks like he's back so I guess this thread is moot.

I'm new here so I don't have a clue who Lord Karsus is. I've seen some of his posts around. Was he like a moderator or something? But any way I would love to see him come back, we need more people in here, Eberron is Kicking our butts, and I think the interface is fine, but like I said I'm new so I don't know if I'm missing anything?

Pretty much what Misc said.

Except for this snipe at the 4e Realms, in that any amount of expertise on the Pre-Spellplague Realms these days is kind of pointless in a lot of respects due to the sweeping obliterating changes it wrought.

LK will tell you first and foremost, I'm not his fan and I don't worship him in any manner. Nor, do I see him as a leader.

As for all the posts you "loath" to post on over the years, you still do a fine job of making yourself heard.

Gomez is also right in that this forum is hardly the place for such a thread. I'll ask for it to be moved to FR General.

No. You and Gomez are incorrect. LK's return has everything to do with Realmslore, as he was the most knowledgable contributor here.

EDIT: Looks like he's back so I guess this thread is moot.

No. It's not. I created this thread after he came "back". Because, he would actually like to come back.

LK was more or less pooped out of Ao's ass when these boards were created. He was around from the start. An incredibly difficult, pain in the ass--but an encyclopedia of FR lore.

Then he will return, when he returns.

You're not helping here, you ninny.

Do people think LK left solely because of the interface of the new boards?  If so, that's somewhat naive.

No, but having talked to him, we both agree that the functionality around here is a HUGE hinderance vs. the way things use to be. And it is one of his big peeves, much like mine--specifically not being able to quote more than a single individual without the HTML getting completely screwed and ruining what you would like to post.

EDIT: Case and point, I had three smileys inserted in this and just got one--in my last quote with you. And let's not get into the whole "html removed" crap.

And yes, I think it would be great if LK came back - if he wanted to.  Excellent source, even for the most obscure bits of old lore.

TaDa!! Thanks. Wink

Er, wha? Why would anyone mind you not smoking anymore - unless you were one of those converted zealot non-smokers?

LK's return has everything to do with Realmslore, as he was the most knowledgable contributor here.

But complaining on the interface doesn't. That belongs in another forum.

By the way, Pre-plague lore is still valuable. Whoever thinks it is something to ignore after 4th ed is, imnsho, of his rocker. I use pre-plague lore in 4th ed all the time (to some people's consternation).

So someone who knows a lot is useful to have around.

I just do not feel particuarly motivated to drag him in by the ears.

Mostly because he was mocking me because he knew it wasn't really by my own choice... was mostly doing it for my wife because of a surgery she had scheduled, which amusingly enough got cancelled a little while back.  Just haven't really seen the point to restarting the habit just yet, mostly due to the expense of the ones I would actually consider putting to my lips.  Once more my snobbery comes to my rescue... Sorry I've missed this - I hope your wife is well and this was the reason her surgery was cancelled.

And it's not snobbery. It's having discriminating taste. :P

I've suffered more for the cancellation than she has... its for her snoring, and while she can sleep through it...

Just remember that sometimes a smoker leaves due to too much smoke, not from a desire to quit smoking.

Sounds cryptic enough to be KtM... one does wonder though, if its the real deal, or just some simulacrum to have peas flung at its head.
