I've downloaded and read all of them after I re-upped my DDI subscription and even took some time to write down all the NPC names from the articles.
As of this month's article my spreadsheet index has grown to 164 unique NPC names with notes about what land/city they're from and what they do for a living. I'm really impressed at how Ed Greenwood can come up with names and not repeat himself. This list has already come in handy for the Realms game I'm running in Cormyr (3.5 rules).
I've also compiled from the articles about 75 new words and phrases and a smattering of broadsheet names, cabal and coster names, adventuring and mercenary party names and so on. This information is always good to have when you need to create NPC organizations or come up with inn names on the fly.
That these names are tied in to articles I can bring up on my computer during play will certainly make things easier for me when the players go in an unanticipated direction and I need to create plots and encounters on the fly.
So to the powers that be at WotC I say this: PLEASE keep these articles coming! To me they are, by themselves, worth the price of a one year subscription to DDI.
Any other Realms articles (by the James brothers, Brian Cortijo, Dan Anderson or Eric Menge) are icing on an already tasty cake. I'll take all I can get, will read it for my own personal enjoyment and utilize it as much as I can in my Realms game.
Thanks to a few of Ed's Eye articles that talk about dangerous wines and the like, I've created a worthy rival for one of my favorite War Wizard NPCs: Authkant "Old Codpiece Melevor".
That rival is also a War Wizard, one Ulskan Hammantle.
I like the idea of feuding War Wizards and exploding wine bottles.
